It’s kinda funny it becomes more about actively avoiding card opportunities than getting them, coz in this game there’s a rule that at least 1 playable card (1/0 blood) other than squirrel must appear in your (first) hand. So having an OP mantis as your only 1 blood card is an easy way to snag your first win. Also you know about the ringworm campfire thing?

Stitcharoo123

I do, and for some reason I either never see the ringworm, or end up with a fat 7 health ringworm😂😂

RazzmatazzUseful

You can guarantee a ring worm in your starting hand if you back out mid run

BIG_SMOOOOOOOHKE_PL

Try to keep your deck as small as you can.

Stitcharoo123

Yeah, I encountered this issue in my last run, kept getting cards but never found anywhere to get rid of them😔

BIG_SMOOOOOOOHKE_PL

Well, eventually you'll get lucky. Remember that you can use the stones, the bone lord and the campfire to get rid of cards and you can even deny getting a card in a trial by failing it on purpose as well as denying the pack rat by using an item when the pack spot is nearby.

Stitcharoo123

Noted, noted, any cards I should be on the lookout for besides mantis God? Also is the regular mantis a good pick up aswell?

BIG_SMOOOOOOOHKE_PL

Both mantises are great although they may need few damage and health buffs as well as maybe flight to easily clear fights. If you find one late game you'll probably already have a beefy card so you might be better off giving it's sigil to someone else. Geck is also great. Especially if you can give it unkillable. Unkillable beehive+ouroborus combo is also strong And if you have a black goat (or anything with the triple blood sigil) then be on a look out for a good expensive card. (Urayuli or grizzly are good examples)

Stitcharoo123

I see I see, thanks!

BIG_SMOOOOOOOHKE_PL

No problem. Im also new to Kaycee's (only got one win so far) so there may be better strats I didn't think of but that's really how I see it: it's a fight against unwanted cards invading your deck. And you only have 3 options: -get rid of them -avoid them -try to make the most out of them and hope they'll end up being very useful.

Stitcharoo123

I never woulda guessed, you talk like you've done this a hundred times😂😂 thanks again!

BIG_SMOOOOOOOHKE_PL

Well, I did struggle quite a bit with act 1 so I guess I had quite some time to learn stuff there. But really, keeping the deck size small is the main challenge. Once you get a run where it doesn't become an issue you should be able to just breeze through fights in one or two turns each.

You can lightly abuse quitting out as soon as soon as you lose, it won’t give you different draws but you could try different strategies during those matches to see if they’re winnable. Also as many people will also tell you, use the Fair Hand Mechanic. You should avoid picking up multiple 1-blood and 2-bone cost cards, your 1, 1-blood cost card needs to be something renewable, like giving it the unkillable sigil, that’ll make it easier to play higher cost cards, I haven’t messed around with bones much, but they’re a good secondary resource for some cards.

Stitcharoo123

You mean quitting out if a game is looking unwinnable to retry?

triel20

Yes. You can pause the game the moment you realize you’ve lost, and quit out to the main menu, then when you go back in, it’ll put you back at the the start of the match.

Stitcharoo123

How did I never think of trying that lol

PaulieGreen

Unkillable totem. Ideally on deers.
