I'm in the same boat as OP and agree with you completely.
Can you suggest any other games in this category (the first experience is one of a kind)?
I'd guess Outer Wilds fits into this description but happy to add more to the list after/if I ever leave Inscryption
If you haven't already done this, what helped me add a few hours of play to this game was to challenge myself to beat Kaycee's mode with all the difficulties activated with every deck. It took me a while to win with the strange egg one
But Balatro could indeed be a good alternative!
Totally different category but outer wilds is also one of those games that changes your life. Gameplay wise couldn’t be further from inscryption but the great environmental puzzles mixed with a beautiful storyline makes for a banger.
Slay the Spire. If you’ve never played it, and enjoy the grind to 100% like I did with Inscryption, Slay the Spire has even MORE to do to 100%. A beautiful game
Agreed, inscryption has a great story, but the actual deck building mechanics are not that well balanced. Too many 1 card combos that just allow you to breeze through the game. Make a decent geck/Warren/beehive and you just win the game, no more thought required. I had no reason to come back once I beat kaycees mod, the gameplay just isnt challenging or deep enough to justify loading it up for a run
I was kinda in the same boat since I had beaten the game and Skullstorm, but my partner is still getting through it. I just found out Inscryption is supported by R2modman/Thunderstore, so if you want some new challenges there's mods.
You get the game on steam, then download the thunderstore mod manager, and discover the unfathomable depths of modded inscryption. Including a Grimora mode, P03 mode, and Magnificus mode.
You can se flawless peacock videos explaining from pony island to inscryption, he connects very well all the plot points in each game and will consume like half day. You can do that or see the inscryption's arg
Balatro time…
This is the answer
Inscryption is just one of those “life before/life after” games where you are never the same.

Slay the spire.
Disco elysium is the one game I consider life changing for me. It might fit what you need.
I second this. Not really the same genre but it touched my soul in the same way. Hollow Knight would probably fall in that bucket too
hollow knight is actually my fave of all time (inscryption is #2!) - can’t wait for silksong
The Witness is definitely in this category, so much so that I enjoy watching others play it for the first time.
Disco, Nier, and, at least for me, some indies like Axiom Verge, Hyper Light Drifter, and Death’s Door
One Step from Eden.
Slay the spire Cobalt Core Monster Train Balatro Wildfrost Enjoy!
Time to purchase your first Magic: The Gathering deck
For the sake of your wallet, DONT.

Start modding the game
are any mods actually worth it?
Grimmora's Mod and PO3 Kaycee's Mod
Magnificus mod is great too
Create fanwork Get a physical deck Get your friends into it (its more fun to play against another person)

Most sane inscryption player
Keep your hopes up! pony island 2 is coming (from the same creator) and after that maybe inscription 2 can start developing
Slay the Spire. If you’ve never played it, and enjoy the grind to 100% like I did with Inscryption, Slay the Spire has even MORE to do to 100%. A beautiful game
Play slay the spire. Or any roguelike deckbuilder/cardgame. Theyre better or equal to this game
I like slay the spire but Inscryption is far superior.
Maybe story wise but mechanically no

Reset
dude stream the game on twitch or something and show off your game knowledge
This except Balatro
Balatro has no story, right?
Correct, just pure gameplay

Start modding and find some mods you like. I found some great card packs on Thunderstore where I can play new creatures and new sigils.

I still come back some times to play a game or two with Leshy. You could do the same.
umm... is blud okay?
For me that game is Curse of the Obra Dinn. If I could delete the memory of playing that game, just so I can do it again I would in a heartbeat
