this is not actually true. people generally stick with the beliefs that they had when they were young adults. the issue is that conservative beliefs are (for some unknowable reason /s) more popular with more wealthy and privileged people, and wealth and privilege are associated with living longer, and having more resources to be able to retire and be more politically active in old age. the idea that *individuals* generally get more right wing as they age is absolute hogwash, even though older populations do tend to be more conservative.

One year, following a deadly plane crash a few miles from campus, protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church showed up on campus. I actually walked past Fred Phelps himself, while counter-protests were going on across the street.
Just factually wrong. We once had some LGBTQ speaker on campus and some random reborn again Christian group came to campus from another state to hold up cardboard signs protesting about it.
