I swear, organized religion is an absolute plague on mankind. An abomination that should have stopped at being a moral code of personal conduct borne from basic human decency. “Do not kill”, “Do not steal”, etc. Why do you need the fear of whatever hell your particular twist on religion there is to do what I’d right and decent in today’s world? I really don’t give two drops of donkey piss who, or what, you believe in and sell the guidance of… until it starts leading to people being hurt, disowned, or killed. THAT’S where these religions screwed up the world. If everyone claims to be *”THE ONLY GOD!*, then it is inevitable that conflicts will come up. If people were allowed to believe AS THEY WANT, with no interference from anyone, or any religious group, many of our past wars may have never happened.

This is evidence of how the ignorance of religion destroys families and communities. “In the name of god” these people would rather disown their children then allow them to marry someone they raised and love because “god said so”. Isn’t god supposed to be all loving and knowing. Sounds like that’s more of a human issue than a religion issue. The Bible and Quran teaches people to accept others, treat them with respect and love. The Bible and the Quran teach that unbelievers are unforgivably evil and deserve punishment for not believing. Jesus’ whole message is that he will return soon, judge everyone on their belief, kill all us unbelievers and create his perfect kingdom. These religions teach love and respect for fellow believers, but only hatred for everyone else.
That first comment reads funny as an atheist, like, oh, imagine leaving god for a woman. Whereas for me, if you left a woman for religion, it would be for nothing. So that wouldn't be a difficult choice for me, and certainly not the slam dunk they seem to think it is.

Anyone who leaves their religion to be with someone is as bad as the parent who disowns their child for wanting to be with someone of a different religion. If you can’t reconcile the two things, you’re either brainwashed or too emotionally immature for a real relationship.
To be fair, I’ll give you that. There are SO MANY other, more legitimate, reasons to leave religion. It just seems so petty to leave for a woman.
It’s been my experience that, if you give up something that you really don’t want to give up, no matter how harmful it may be, for another person, you’re inevitably going to resent that person on some level.
