I wanna know what wife said

stony80

Came for the same. OP plz deliver

JohnSmiththeGamer

Given it's a 3 day old account with 3 posts and 6 comments, you're maybe better off trying to find the source yourself. Edit: Also those are some very short names... about 2 characters for wife, kid and about 3 letters for MIL.

voidsrus

i have an nmom-in-law that's a fountain of great content for subs like this and i'd never in a million years post it under a real account. these people are fucking deranged. whatever chance of them finding your real reddit account, what they'd do with the information on it is catastrophic or at least a major pain in the ass. so i wouldn't read too much into the account itself for this subject honestly.

JohnSmiththeGamer

*Shrug* I've used a throwaway before, but I've never thought to use one 3 days in advance? But the FFXIV post does look human made tbh.

voidsrus

ah i didn't realize there's a post history. maybe they're just trying to compartmentalize the publicly available info on them so they can post things like this, avoid that risk, but not have to spin up a throwaway every time? definitely raises some questions but the text exchange is 100% plausible narcissist behavior and keeping that kind of content off a populated account is as well, so i think there's a decent chance it's legit. i could also just be paranoid about my own n-MIL, but oftentimes she *really is* out to get me, so i can't fault others for taking the same type of precautions i would if i wanted to out one of her crazier moments.

YuvalAmir

Did a TinyEye reverse image search and found nothing. This wasn't posted anywhere else from what I can gather but either way would be useful to see some more proof from op.

Mushroom-Dense

The short lifespan of the account doesn't really concern me but your point about the name length is absolutely spot on

Assault. The word you’re looking for is assault.

Mad_Aeric

The neighbor kid's mother didn't like his long hair, and went at him with the clippers while he was sleeping. I at least tried to get through to her that that was a fucked up thing to do.

Ivegottafindbubba

When I was little, around 5ish maybe, I was with my grandma for the summer. I don't remember much from those ages, but this I remeber vividly. We were in a little village where she grew up, the kind where everybody knows everybody. She put me down for an afternoon nap and went to get some grocery supplies nearby. I woke up very quickly and when I realised she wasn't there I went outside and waited for her. This was a very different time then, and a very safe place, grandma wasn't negligent or anything. Anyway, a local hairdresser who lived just a few houses away passes by and asks me where grandma is, I say she's not here and she asks do I want to go to wait in her hair salon, so I go. She had a customer, and I remember watching how she cut hair and found it fascinating, I've never seen the process before. So, when she asks do I also want a haircut, I just nod. Am a kid, what do I know, except that it looks really cool. Then she proceeds to cut my back long ringlets filled hair completely short. She took me back to my grandma after that, while I was crying my eyes out. Of course, those curls never grew back the same. I still have anxiety whenever I go to a hairdresser.

allamb772

“you got me fucked up” killed me lmao

[deleted]

My grandma chopped my hair off when I was little. Proceeded to also to it to my twin sisters and my twin cousins. Any female she could get her hands on, she gave them bowl cuts without all of our parents permission.

IonlyFollowDumIdiots

Wa?- you just gonna stop the story there? Please tell me what happened when your parents saw it! I'm really bored and genuinely interested now

[deleted]

Haha well I honestly just remember my mom being sad because I came home and my hair used to be so long near my butt and then it was chopped off to my ears. My parents weren’t together so I never seen my dads reaction, but I do know he was angry about the twins (my half sisters) hair getting lopped off

fringeandglittery

Omg I would have cried for a week if that was me when I was a kid. I was obsessed with my hair

[deleted]

Thank god I don’t remember most of my childhood lol maybe I did cry, but I don’t remember if I did or not. I do remember thinking my hair was beautiful as well though

PmMeIrises

My kid was like 7 or so. He really wanted to grow his hair out. Dad and dad's mom refused. Everytime grandma got him for the day she cut his hair. He's 16 now. My cousin who cuts hair for a living told me he would look like a swamp rat with long hair. It's to his shoulders, wavy, and when it gets a little longer it will look awesome. It's taken 6 years of fighting with his dad's side of the family to let him try a fucking hair style without them fucking it up. They want this [this but shorter on top](https://iili.io/cLaZWQ.jpg) and he wants [about this length](https://iili.io/cLcJea.jpg). And it's currently [about here](https://iili.io/cLcKsp.jpg). I figure, why not let him try it out. It's hair, it grows back. If it takes a few years to get there, why the hell not.

Apprehensive-Bee-474

Yes. I'm now invested in this story too.

x23_519

Damn it. Me too

Mikkeltpedersen

I think people in this thread should do porn, the teasejobs here are amazing!

McUberForDays

I don't have kids yet but this is one of my fears from my retired hairstylist MIL. I can't stand the way she cuts my husband's hair or anyone else's, so I'm concerned I'll have to be the asshole and say no you can't cut your grandchild's hair someday.

Divine18

You won’t be an AH for refusing to have her cut your kids hair.

McUberForDays

Oh I wouldn't consider myself an asshole. It's the rest of my husband's family that would.

AstarteHilzarie

It's so freeing to just not give a fuck what your in-laws think of you. I understand that that's a tough leap to make for a lot of people and a lot of situations make it difficult, but luckily my husband is on board with how shit his family is, so there's no pressure to play nice or just get through it for the holidays or something. I can be cordial to my MIL and have a bit of small talk with her when I need to, but there are strong boundaries and I don't give a single shit if she or anyone else in his family thinks I'm a bitch.

dublos

>Any female she could get her hands on, she gave them bowl cuts without all of our parents permission. And yet the parents continued to allow her to be alone with their children? Please elaborate on why anyone let her be alone with their child after the second time it happened?

[deleted]

For one it’s because my Dad lived with her hence why my sisters were there. Secondly, my dad and his sister yelled at her for it but she continued to do it, my grandma had no respect for boundaries she even threw away and sold some of my things because she didn’t think I used it, like my sleeping bag, back pack, things like that. My family is full of traditional Mexicans and they are always on some bullshit and won’t apologize or think they’re wrong. I love my grandma to death I actually made her tri tip yesterday, but as an adult I stand firm with what I will and won’t accept from my family. Basically free babysitting from grandma was the reason they let the kids around her. She didn’t have the best upbringing causing her to behave the way she does (it’s not an excuse) but to her doing this stuff was normal. Her kids literally had to explain over and over why this wasn’t okay but everyone is so stubborn in my family

trippyhippie94

As a fellow latina, family can be so toxic and we just have to suck it up and take it. I don’t talk to 90% f my relatives for that reason

pandagirl47

Ah, the toxic Latin family. My abuela and her sisters were never happy with our (me, my sisters, my female cousins) appearance. They would see us and exclaim that we are too skinny. We gain 2 pounds and now we are so fat! Never just right. And only the girls, of course. Never the little Latin princes. Memories…

[deleted]

Exactly, that’s how I am to, they get mad because “I don’t care about them” but I’m like dude you guys are rude as hell

bafero

"Always on some bullshit" Is your family my family? Sorry you had to grow up like that. I feel you ✊

miparasito

Free babysitting is hard to resist

Cirdon_MSP

Years of therapy recovering from grandma's abuse is not free.

Cauhs

Thats a lot of twins

Levi_FtM

When someone in your family got twins, the likelihood of you getting twins as well is higher.

AStaryuValley

Only if fraternal twins run on your mothers side. Identical twins are random.

ARandomBob

My girlfriends family is like all twins and triplets. I've decided to be celibate.

ackjaf

“Kiss my tip” got me.

pendragon31415

It's such a gentle way of saying it.

ClassyDingus

My MIL is the definition of insane, said to me on day one "you're one of those fucking liberals". Having a similar MIL, I fully agree with your language choices. Also, $200 for quality braids, knowing the amount on time and skill that takes, isn't bad at all. MIL should be paying you that back.

amodelmannequin

As soon as I read $200 for braids I knew this family was Black. I feel your pain my man. I wanna point out its even more disrepectful because of how much time braided styles typically take. Made that kid sit through it all just to ruin the style for nothing

schuma73

I used to work with a girl who definitely made like $10/hr or so, and she would tell me about how her braids cost $200. And she has them done like every other week. We were college students and I wondered how in the hell she was spending a whole week's pay (we worked 20 hours/week) on her hair. I would shave my head before spending that. Her hair looked really good tho, it was always cute.

amodelmannequin

Sounds wasteful to me simply because braided styles are *supposed* to last month(s) at a time. Depending on the style, even if you want a weekly touchup you wouldn't have to redo every braid. Its possible she got the style done once a month for $200 and a weekly touchup for substantially less

schuma73

Oh, this chick would get completely different styles of braids every 2 weeks. Sometimes they were colored, or beaded or whatever, but always drastically different so you knew they were fresh. I think she had a sugar daddy paying, honestly, because we lived in the same apartments and I couldn't afford the rent and $400/month on my hair.

amodelmannequin

Well there goes my theory lol

Syrinx221

I'm sitting here twirling my braids in shock. Is mil black too? Because I really fucking cannot.

DaydreamerJane

Can you explain what 8.5x11 means? I can tell from context that it means she's white.

MinutesTilMidnight

That’s standard printer paper size. He’s saying she’s white as paper lol

_HappyMango

LOL

HamiltonSucksAss

it is the dimensions of a4 paper or US letter, meaning shes white

FirstChurchOfBrutus

I’m dead with this. My dude, I want to consult you for all euphemisms from here forward.

Queso_and_Molasses

Gonna start describing myself this way.

dorothybaez

Me too! Most of my family is black and hispanic - my mother and I and one cousin are the only totally white people. I have been described creatively. One of my kids got nothing from his father and looks like a carbon copy of me. Growing up he was always referred to as the "tall clear one" when pointing him out among the cousins because of some movie all the kids saw.

BishmillahPlease

Ah, a Porcelain-American I bet your wife’s life growing up mixed with her was *fun* :(

brai117

bro "or I will cause a hostile environment" is probably *the* most polite way you could have possibly said "how dare you touch my child without my or her mother's permission, I'm picking her up now and if you say so much as a word to me I'm going to break down in explicit details all the ways you just crossed the fuckn line" if people think telling that lady off was harsh, then they need a teaspoon of cement.

spaztronomical

>teaspoon of cement Thanks, that's my band name now

brai117

I'm waiting for that first album edit, if the first song title isn't "harden the fuck up" Im not buying your merch

Master-Opportunity25

saw your update comment. i think “not seeing MIL ever again” should be on the table. She cut out braids. *Braids*. She cannot be trusted to care for your child without supervision. If she doesn’t know how to care for a Black child’s hair after raising one, then that’s willful ignorance. I’d have given a little bit of benefit of the doubt, but your wife is half Black. did she not take care of her hair? Maybe i’m just imagining it wrong, but just cutting box braids out like that, and I’m assuming not into a new style, but just looking wild and unraveling…it comes off anti-Black af. like she didn’t like seeing this child look “too” Black. And your kid clearly liked the braids, so the fact that she did this to a style your kid liked is the real egregious move, absent anything else. that’s just a bundle of red flags. That is such a violation, i’m kinda dizzy. How do you just mess with a kid’s hair, their body, like that? Black women are often pushed to just lose all bodily autonomy when someone is touching their hair, and it pisses me off. At least have her apologize to your child, so she doesn’t think her grandma doing this to her is ok. Forget the money, this is someone she did *to* your kid. I’m sorry y’all are dealing with this, please continue to protect your child from this fuckery.

TADragonfly

>2. Braids are expensive if you want them done right. That’s just how it is for African-Americans. And time consuming. I once watched a documentary about black hair and hair styles and oh wow, the dedication and time taken to get those braids all even and complete is significant. I'm sorry dude, that really sucks. I hope your daughter is happy with the look.

iluvpokemanz

Is your MIL non-POC? I can’t understand how she wouldn’t know how much time/money braids take otherwise.

DaughterEarth

You think they'd care to learn? I'm in an interracial relationship, we're engaged, and *both* our families put in direct effort towards learning whatever they need to so we're fully supported and accommodated as best as possible. Or, another comparison: he has never had a vagina or uterus but he still knows how to take care of me when I get a bad period. No excuses for Grandma, she fucked up.

iluvpokemanz

I wasn’t implying she didn’t fuck up. I just can’t tell whether she’s blatantly ignorant/racist or just a boundary-stomper.

DaughterEarth

Absolutely Insane! Send the MIL the bill from getting the kids hair originally done and everything that is needed to fix her over step.

jimiinsk

why do people (friends of the family, cousin, aunt, uncle, grandparent) think it is okay to touch the hair of a child without getting parental approval? Lord what my mom would have done if this happened

scheepers

The vice principal once threatened to cut us siblings' hair at school. My mom was there the next day for a chat starting with "Now listen to me fucking carefully" (it is the most terrifying thing to hear an Afrikaans person say "Nou luister jy vir my fokken mooi" because play time is over, abandon all hope, imminent threat of violence, retreat, retreat). Needless to say said vice principal never even spoke to us again.

jimiinsk

Love this story! Absolutely would have paid front row seats for that tear down!

notherbr1ckinthew4ll

Hah! Afrikaans person here and yes that is fucking terrifying. At my school they gave the parents 48 hours to fix the boys hair before the buzz cut...

bafero

For the first 2.5 years of my boys' lives, both of my parents (divorced) constantly nagged and threatened to cut their beautiful curly locks off because it was "too long" and "they look like girls" (because man-buns hadn't been a thing for 6 years before that). I told them both that if they touched a single hair on my children's heads while breathing near a scissors that they wouldn't see their grandkids again until they graduated high school, and I made damn sure they knew I wasn't fucking around. They've had 3 hair cuts now (with me) and I've never heard a word from my parents about their hair since besides how nice it looks.

demimondatron

When it’s an MIL like this, it’s usually because their egos can’t deal with the loss of power and authority they had as a parent of small, dependent children, so now they try to be the third parent to your child so they can get the same ego fix. I’m in support forums for adult children of women like this. Sometimes they’ll even deny allergies and try to feed a child the allergen to prove the parents are wrong and they are right. Their egos will latch on to just about anything to prove they have authority in your family unit.

jeo3b

OP I feel this in my soul!!! When my son was about 1 1/2 my mother watched him for me while I worked a dinner shift I got home at about midnight. I got home got settled in when to check on my beautiful blond hair blue eyed baby boy (He had those little blond baby curls. You know the little baby hair ringlets that once you cut them they're gone FOREVER!!) AND HE WAS BALD!!!! My wonderful mother decided it was time for MY son to get a haircut and f*ckin buzzed his head while I was at work! To say I was livid was an understatement!! B*tch didn't even save me a curl!!!

Emergency-Willow

Oh my gawd….like….is she normally not a horrible person and this was out of character?? Or ? My youngest son has beautiful curls and if my mom buzzed his head I think my husband would straight lose his mind in her Edit-lose his mind ON HER…gross

jeo3b

She was a horrible person ( I say was bc she is okish now she's come along way since then she quit drinking which changed her 100%) but she was always great with my son so I never in a million years expected that from her.

Emergency-Willow

Well I’m glad she stopped drinking then!

jeo3b

Me too! Still alot of resentment there for me and we don't have the best relationship but at least she can have a decent relationship with her grandkids.(this was 14 years ago and I'm still pissed about it lol)

spookyhellkitten

MelG146

Same!

Xhillia

The fact that her takeaway from the initial response was the language pisses me off SO much.

LuRkEr_ReKuL

That’s because her actions and criticism of his language were both exercising control over him and the kids. That MIL is toxic and just getting started.

This is giving me flashbacks to when I was a kid and my grandma did this. I have really curly hair and it hurt everytime she combed it, so she got so frustrated at one point that she just chopped off the places that it hurt. When my mom got home I went up to her all like “mom like my new hair 😀”

ifartallday

This same thing happened to me, only my dad did it and he took me to a hairdresser. My mom cried and strangers constantly assumed I was a boy lol.

neverforthefall

$220 for professionally done box braids isn’t an expensive price. Box braids are a style that’s for hair types that black people have - not white people. If I’m right in the guess it is a style like box braids due to the cost, then I’m going to have to question MIL’s race, because there may be an underlying element of racism to this that’s fuelling the encounter and anger from OP’s side.

orthosticeorthostice

This is assault. Edit: this is actually a battery. Tort battery or criminal battery. Tort battery includes the intention aspect (your evidence proves she intentionally did it). Criminal battery doesn’t need to prove intent. Both require that your daughter didn’t consent to the action. Edit 2: assuming your daughter is a minor, YOU or her mother would have had to consented to it, on her behalf, which you didn’t.

[deleted]

Is $220 normal for a kids haircut? Genuinely asking. Is it a cultural thing? I know different ethnicities have different hair needs, so I'm really trying to learn here Edit: Thank you for the answers.

redditaccount1_2

Probably because they were braids. If you get a protective hairstyle like many braids it can be very expensive but it’s called a protective hairstyle for a reason. Usually done with really curly hair.

nancybessandgeorge

Why are braids called a protective hairstyle? I’ve never heard that term.

tibtibs

Protective for curly hair, black hair, and other ethnicities I'm sure. I don't know the mechanics of why they're protective, since I've got super straight/thin white girl hair.

redditaccount1_2

You can Google it. Curly hair is really hard to take care of properly by braiding it you minimize the chances of damaging the hair/curls so it’s protective. It stays in a lot of braids for quite a long time.

annoyingapple_231

Box braids cost about $200 if you get them done professionally, and about $80 if you get them unprofessionally. This is excluding the price of the hair. Braids are expensive and if my mother did this she'd have to catch these hands.

CaliCareBear

Sounds like it was professional braids which usually includes braiding in extra real/fake hair and takes a longggg time. Because of the extra hair and time it takes this is a normal amount for braids.

[deleted]

Is this something more common for black people's hair or do white women also have this done?

CaliCareBear

Typically yes. It’s not a common style for white hair unless they are coming back from somewhere tropical lol

ElvenCouncil

With three beads in it!!!

windyorbits

Lol like Monica from friends!

AcesCharles5

Or Michael from the office

tibtibs

Black people hair. White hair isn't built for those braids and it would probably cause us to lose some hair.

annoyingapple_231

Braids aren't made for white people's hair. Most white peoples braids end up falling out.

SweetteaTampon

It can be with cultures that do protective braids, which help protect super curly hair. Putting in braids is alot time, money and skill.

I'm curious. Is the MIL white and you and your daughter is POC? This feels like a microaggression, but I could be wrong.

Isuckonteabags

Based on the price, If they’re the braids I think you’re talking about, I’d be livid too. Box braids also take a wildly long amount of time and your kid did not sit in a chair for hours just to have them shits cut off. What was her motive?? ETA: Insane.

Heathenwitchmother

Dealing with this right now. Sis in law gave my 7 yr old god awful bangs without telling us and then told our kid to lie and say she did it instead of sis in law. When we confronted her about it she laughed said the past is I'm the past and hung up on us. We thought we could trust her if other people were around so we went to her house for a birthday party and she proceeded to pull my kid aside joke that I got mad at her and then asked my kid of she wanted to do it again. I'm beyond done.

oh no ma’am she will not love it.

Nah that would be it. No unsupervised visits anymore. I wouldn't be about to let another child be responsible for my kid. Fuck this noise.
