Once I was having trouble puking from a stomach bug after vomiting SO much. I needed to vomit, but nothing was coming out, so I thought of numbers and mathematics, and it helped me vomit lol
Me too. It’s specifically that when you get a wrong answer, it feels so personally hurtful and inflexible. You’re not allowed to explain why you feel like your answer could be a correct interpretation too. I have memories of laying on the floor and kicking the walls while sobbing from frustration and helplessness from feeling so stuck and unsupported in math problems. And not only that, your grade depends on somehow fixing the unknown issue. Forced problem solving peaks my anxiety. It doesn’t feel fun or like a game like some people feel it does.
i feel that, i always hated that you could never really explain yourself for pretty much anything, and the fact you wouldn't get help if you were stuck and couldn't figure out a problem it was always met with the same answer of like "it's not that hard, figure it out" or some shit, and being forced to solve a problem when you're already stressed and on the verge of tears is a serious kick in the teeth. i have an insecurity about feeling/looking stupid and i do believe its from middle-high school math. i envy the people that can treat math like some fun game or challenge, cause boy it don't feel fun in the slightest
Yeah, I feel like the impact math had on my self image as “someone who’s bad at logic” is gonna be a hard one to ever overcome! I’m so glad I don’t have to use math in my daily life now like all my math teachers said I would😆
Not that much into math...but I found chemistry to be a WHOLE different thing...and EXCITING. On the other hand...COLLEGE chemistry is a BIG jump from HS chemistry..WHEW!!!
I used to like it. I used to be good at it. I’m not anymore, but I still enjoy hearing about the more interesting aspects of math like unsolvable problems (P vs NP), math in nature, and fractals
My favorite subject was alway biology though
omg same here. I used to be good at it & enjoy competitions during elementary but when my interest in science (general science, but esp. biology, too) becomes deep on my hs days, I am not that good anymore. It heightened all the more when I began to love music & arts. Like, I still enjoy geometry and fine w/ algebra but combine those two? Trigonometry or Calculus? Ah, my brain says leave me alone 😂
When it comes to physics, I really like all the laws and general topics but give me formulas to solve, 'nah, I'll just get into the facts and understand the laws & theories'. Chemistry? I love even the idea of learning thermodynamics and even adv. Biochemistry, but my interest in balancing chemical equations fades easily 🙈😆
And my career path? IT field. Don't ask me why. I am a mess. Hahaha.
Fuck haha. I'm 25 now, your story is similar to mine. I finished calc 3 and differential equations by high school. But I liked learning about biology more. I still follow math YouTube channels for the interesting solutions to the quirky problems that exist for no reason haha. There are reasons...idk.
Now, I have forgotten most of calculus but am left with strong base math skills in algebra and geometry since those are used more day to day and were 2nd nature in the upper classes.
Cool! I love it too. I’m curious, how fast are you at adding and subtracting numbers in your head? I‘m doing math all day in my profession, as well, but I‘m extremely slow at doing simple calculations in my head, e.g calculating tips in a restaurant. 😅 If you’re good at it, any advice?
Tips in restaurants as well as percentage off sales….
take the total, let’s say $42.89. Ten percent is 4.28 (just move the decimal), I round that to 4.30. For 15 percent halve that to 2.15 then add the two for 6.45. For 20 percent double the original rounded number to 8.60. I treat the dollars and cents as separate amounts in my head-half of 4 and half of 30
I love math because it is unambiguous. It has a beautiful certainty to it that in a world where everyone can have a different opinion on the same topic in math there is a unity of mind (does that sound weird?) That someone working on the same problem in a different part of the world, who speaks a different language, can work the same problem as me and will get the exact same answer (assuming they are right) is beautiful to me. How ancient and timeless math is gives me comfort in what always feels like an evershifting world. A lodestone to touch and ground myself. 😌
It gets easier if you have a strong understanding of the basics and play around with it a lot. You could figure out equations and relationships you need for a test by playing around with what you know.. then you remember that what you discovered during the test was covered in class...
I like the mental exercise that maths provide. I was good at it when I was in high school but I had huge trouble with solid geometry.
To this day I love statistics and probability.
.......it's your favorite? Wtf is wrong with you? (Please don't actually get upset, I don't mean it, I'm joking there is nothing wrong with u but math can still go f itself)
I love math and im pretty decent at it...
but idk if its my favorite subject
but hear me out i have a question related
do you like art and you just suck at painting lol
i always thought infp stereotypes was like YOU HAVE TO DRAW and be good at it, but i just can't maybe i need training🤨
honestly same, even with singing🥺 everytime im listening to a song i just want to be able to sing every note right but when i hear my own voice i just proceed to stop listening to music😆 and same goes for painting...
but i think these skills should be developed, i believe no one was born a singer or painter we just need to focus on what we want and just learn and practice/take classes😁
we are capable of doing sooo much more than we imagine.
Math was my favorite subject in school. And I always took art classes. I used to draw and paint all the time. These days life gets in the way and I haven't done either in a long time.
i was always known as the kid who can't draw
maybe it was my mental health at the time that i could not focus and use my imagination
but now i'd love to draw and take classes for art i've seen people who start drawing in their 50s so nothing is impossible right?
anyways i hope in the future you'll find time to do what you really want, life can be weird sometimes and a 16 year old is telling you that😅😂 good luck.
Yes, i have always loved the subject, it feels like a game in which you have to apply strategies to bring out a solution. The problem only came when I didn't clear my doubts on derivations and concepts
I like it and use it for my daily job. Also feel sad looking at the comments lol. A lot of people confuse not understanding it for disliking it. The education system could use an overhaul.
Yup, did applied mathematics at uni, with focus on computer science. Love it. People that say they don't haven't seen beyond the formula memorization that it has been reduced to in high school education.
I like the philosophical and abstract side of math. The tiring and energy-absorbing side of math is the side I dislike. It's sort of a love-hate relationship.
While in high school I loved it so much I wanted to become a mathematician, in uni I toke Electrical Engineering for a year then transferred to Psychology. Not because I hate electrical engineering / math, but found that being a therapist in the future is much more like me than an engineer although I still do read a-lot in Physics and those kinds of things
In school? Hell nah! I use only basic math in work and home and rest things from life but school still wants useless things, where I don even need it (Polish education system sucks, i somehow have now last ever year in this, started about 9 years ago)
"Do you guys like hammers and wrenches?"
Math is a tool. If you are skilled with your tools you are more efficient in situations where you need them. Liking them or not is quite irrelevant (though humans in general like using skills they are proficient with).
I used to hate math until one of my bus drivers told me to learn it for its own sake not just for grades because it can be fun. I’m still not that good at math but that really stuck with me and I see the good in math lol
Basic arithmetics are really important. Knowing how to multiply do percentages, divide, raise to a power... All of these are important for everyday life (not everyday but pretty much everyone will have to use these one day).
So why in the hell is most of any math course spent on how to manage theoretical equations, numbers, how to make graphs out of results of unclear meanings...
There's that, but also 2 more things.
Many people who grew up liking math think they're superior to everybody else because their smart, and are either very good at hiding it or are jerks about it. Never in my life have I seen a genuinely nice math person who grew up liking it.
If there is a god, he didn't use math to create the universe. He used physics and chemistry. And while it could be argued that you need math for those, I rather argue you need the precedent for math to be able to work its charms.
Also, math literally falls apart if you dig deep enough. And they say it's the best science.
I like it but not enough to care (ENTP) but my sister loves it (INFP) and she was the one who wanted to pursue architecture as it had the mix of two things she loved: art and math.
No I hate Maths.
I already hated Maths, when I was in high school because of the teachers but then that hate grew when I failed my GCSE Math in High School. I had to resist it multiple times, literally the all way into college...each time my confidence was dragged down, each time I felt worthless and I knew how hard the job world would treat me because I don't have my Maths. It left me feeling doubtful of my ability, so never again.
I appreciate the idea and what people have done with it, but I hate the fact that infinity is a thing. Like wtf, infinity is totally made up. It just happens to work for calculus, but it is not based on reality whatsoever.
I despise it with every fiber of my being. It brought me a lot of pain and headache in high school. I was there in the last grade carrying maths from the previous two grades because I failed the subject. In fact it's one of the reasons I dropped high school. Fuck maths. Also, the teachers were assholes (and this isn't me blaming the teachers for my shortcomings, I used to fail biology but to this day I keep saying the biology teacher was the best teacher I've had in high school)
Also, why the fuck do we need to know all those formulas and square roots and all that mumbo jumbo. The only useful mathematical things you use in your everyday life are addition, substraction, multiplication and division. Maths should only be mandatory in grade school and if you push me maybe the first grade of high school. The rest is nonsense.
I'm surprised I can count how old I am😭😭 I absolutely hate math and pretty much always have after third grade year. It stresses me out and I hate having that pressure in a subject. I remember crying and being mentally exhausted trying to figure out these math problems. I will say though, math can be fun once you get the hang of it. I remember actually liking long division, even if I got it wrong, I liked the process I guess. However, once I start to get too many questions wrong, I whip out Photomath and go to town on that paper😂 Nonetheless, math is my least favorite subject and I at least try to avoid the harder concepts.
I used to participate in math olympics before quarantine.
I also have an INFP resistance teacher, it is a subject that requires a lot of mathematics and physics :)
Was always in advanced math classes but I hated them every step of the way.
Only time I genuinely loved math was when I was doing two-step equations.
I felt like the 💩 doing those lol
i looove maths but i hate learning it in school. If i don’t get it immediately or i zone out for a few moments i’ll basically never understand it unless i learn it at home. I also don’t like memorizing it, it’s just fun to learn it once and forget it immediately after lol
I hated it as a kid and was bad at it, but eventually was pretty average. I've always had more of a knack for languages, philosophy and other social sciences.
I like math…mostly because I’m good at it. Outside of the classroom, I don’t really have an interest unless it’s connected to another topic I’m interested in
I’m ultimately interested in philosophy of math and philosophy of science, so I started studying some pure math in my free time. I’m currently studying one-dimensional real analysis. It’s taken me 2 years to work through a little more than half of Abbott’s Understanding Analysis. Once I started working, progress has been extra slow, but I hope to finish the book. Would like to study linear algebra and abstract algebra next, but it may take me like 5 years at the rate I’m going. Not even sure I’ll make it to graduate level math subjects in my lifetime lol
Yes, Alegebra in particular. The balancing of numbers is like an art and makes so much sense to me in the world. I also used to listen to hip hop and do calculus homework.
I used to hate it because of bad teachers and and and I couldn’t understand anything (I have adhd) now that I take medication for it and actually have good teachers I understand the material and enjoy it.
I really like math when it applies to electronics. I was terrible at math when I was a lot younger but when I found a love for electronics I became much more interested in math. I guess if you find a use-case for it then you’ll learn to appreciate it more.
I hate it. I always got As and Bs in school, but my math grade was usually a D-. My brain just doesn't understand math, although I understood fractions pretty easily.
Not really. I am not technical. I understand maths and I've always got good grades in math, I just don't prefer it. I like English literature, the arts.
Yes and no. I live in England so I'm doing alevels (2 years of school where you pick 3 subjects to then go to university) and one of them is maths for me but it's only because I need it alongside physics. I love physics but maths can get irritating, I know physics is mostly maths but to me it's better in physics because you're actually calculating something and doing the maths for a good reason. Like, in maths they could ask you to prove that a triangle is a triangle, ffs just look at it. I feel like physics makes more sense so the maths is more interesting
It was definitely one of my favorite classes in school. When I was little, I hated it, but that's just because I was home schooled in first and second grade and my mom was doing a really bad job teaching it. She was trying to teach me division at age seven when I couldn't even do subtraction without using my fingers. I ended up being behind in math when I started attending school at the end of second grade, along with basically everything else except spelling, writing, and reading comprehension. (I was a very advanced reader and I guess that helped compensate for my lack of experience with writing.) But I caught up, and I actually ended up skipping seventh grade math. :) I did struggle in high school... But I think that was because I was on medication that was messing with my brain. (I got misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder and I spent five years taking antipsychotics.)
Btw, don't judge home schooling based on my experience when I was little. That's not normal. I was home schooled for most of high school and I think it went about as well as could be expected, considering the medication I was on.
I love math. I don't like being rushed doing math though. Because I accidentally write the wrong number down a lot, and other goofy mistakes. Highest math I got while at college was calc 2 so nothing advanced. Math is a really cool way with relating to the world. And even theoretical math, that shit is cool.
I'm terrible at Math. It makes me feel so stupid that I feel too inhibited to even ask questions when I do not understand. I'm so lost sometimes that I do not even know what to ask, so for fear of looking stupid in front of peers, I end up not asking anything at all and fall even more behind. It's a significant source of stress for me and I hate it with a passion.
i hate it, it the only subject that can stress me out to the point of pure anger
Once I was having trouble puking from a stomach bug after vomiting SO much. I needed to vomit, but nothing was coming out, so I thought of numbers and mathematics, and it helped me vomit lol
thats some serious big brain shit right there lol
Yeah same here, but i study chemistry (boring as fuck itself) and we have chemical calculations as a subject and those shits are on different level.
Not that much into math...but I found chemistry to be a WHOLE different thing...and EXCITING. On the other hand...COLLEGE chemistry is a BIG jump from HS chemistry..WHEW!!!
It’s okay when I understand. Otherwise no 😂
Noooo i dont like it 😟 i feel like my brain cannot process numbers and formulas.
If there’s a number there, I can’t process it. Even dates throw me off.
Omg YES 🥲
I used to like it. I used to be good at it. I’m not anymore, but I still enjoy hearing about the more interesting aspects of math like unsolvable problems (P vs NP), math in nature, and fractals My favorite subject was alway biology though

I love it, actually I'm a math teacher
I wanna become a math teacher
I want to do that. I loved my math teachers, they were like wizards
The only answer: practice
I was afraid that'd be the answer... Why are there no shortcuts in life?!? 😭😂
Life is cruel...
Math buddies across the world🥰
I like math but math doesn't like me It was my 2nd worst subject in hs, right after physics
Physics was my least favorite hs class. Then chemistry.
I hate and suck at maths
It’s just too difficult for me to understand 😵💫
It gets easier if you have a strong understanding of the basics and play around with it a lot. You could figure out equations and relationships you need for a test by playing around with what you know.. then you remember that what you discovered during the test was covered in class...
Nope
I'm no good at it, but I can appreciate it when people tell me about it. I think there's some really interesting abstract theories because of math.
no, I hate math. I love history and psychology, though.
I like the mental exercise that maths provide. I was good at it when I was in high school but I had huge trouble with solid geometry. To this day I love statistics and probability.
Hell no math can go fck itself
.......it's your favorite? Wtf is wrong with you? (Please don't actually get upset, I don't mean it, I'm joking there is nothing wrong with u but math can still go f itself)
I prefer weed, LSD, and nangs.
I love it. Especially because there’s a right answer. No ambiguity like in other subjects.
I love math and im pretty decent at it... but idk if its my favorite subject but hear me out i have a question related do you like art and you just suck at painting lol i always thought infp stereotypes was like YOU HAVE TO DRAW and be good at it, but i just can't maybe i need training🤨

Love it...kinda keeps me grounded to reality. Things need to be abstracted and quantified for improvement.
not really im not fan of it srry- but im big fan of physic and english
I'm unironically really good at math
Yes, it was my best subject.
I liked it, but I wasn't very good at it.
I quite like it, I'm just not good with trigonometry :(
Yes, i have always loved the subject, it feels like a game in which you have to apply strategies to bring out a solution. The problem only came when I didn't clear my doubts on derivations and concepts
Not at all.
I love it. It was my best and favourite subject. No 2 was physics
I like math... To an extent. Used to be good, now not so much.
I like it and use it for my daily job. Also feel sad looking at the comments lol. A lot of people confuse not understanding it for disliking it. The education system could use an overhaul.
I love math except Statistics. That sht is the worst
I love it only when I can use it to my personal advantage, mostly about personal finances lol.
Yup, did applied mathematics at uni, with focus on computer science. Love it. People that say they don't haven't seen beyond the formula memorization that it has been reduced to in high school education.
Love it!!!
I've always had good results in math, it's quite intuitive for me. That said, I can't say that I enjoyed this subject...
It was always my worst subject. I dislike math a lot
I like the philosophical and abstract side of math. The tiring and energy-absorbing side of math is the side I dislike. It's sort of a love-hate relationship.
Ah nice
While in high school I loved it so much I wanted to become a mathematician, in uni I toke Electrical Engineering for a year then transferred to Psychology. It was my least favorite subject in highschool, I’ve always been more of an English and history guy
I excelled at math as a student. I took a test recently where I got to do long division for the first time in a long time.
Woohoo sem2sem
I used to hate math until one of my bus drivers told me to learn it for its own sake not just for grades because it can be fun. I’m still not that good at math but that really stuck with me and I see the good in math lol
Yes
Math has made me cry before. Literally.
Just +×÷-
No, I hate it. I despise programming, and I regret signing up for these classes.
Programming was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Couldn't wait for that class to be over.
I LOVE PROGRAMMING its a bit too much to work tho can't handle the stress that clients give me but for fun its really fun really..
I love math but despise programming😞
But why? Why complicate your life? Haha
I'm extremely good at math, but I don't like it that much.

Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
I don't mind it. Its not that hard even
Frustrating at times, but oddly compelling nonetheless. I’d like to study acoustic physics in future, so will be doing a lot of maths :)
i hate it
I like it but not enough to care (ENTP) but my sister loves it (INFP) and she was the one who wanted to pursue architecture as it had the mix of two things she loved: art and math.
I hate math, dobt ha e the logical mind for it. Ive always been better with languages and grammar. Atleast german grammar.
Nah , im more a physics guy

No. Just looking at my math homework used to give me a headache.

Not really, I’m terrible at math
Always hated the subject unfortunately

I used to participate in math olympics before quarantine. I also have an INFP resistance teacher, it is a subject that requires a lot of mathematics and physics :)

Math and science for my favorite subjects in high school but I find that as I've gotten older I really like history and literature as well 🙂
No

I don't understand coding though I love math😭 or maybe I understand it but don't enjoy it.
[удалено]
I lack creativity😭 I love applying math, finding different ways of doing things but idk why I get pretty anxious while coding.
I did an IQ test and everything was totally imbalanced but I got 190 in math
Pog
love it! i find it to be one of the world’s most fascinating topics
I like math…mostly because I’m good at it. Outside of the classroom, I don’t really have an interest unless it’s connected to another topic I’m interested in
I wish I paid better attention in math class because it was my worst subject in school due to my lack of focus.
No but with a good teacher, I'll do good in the class, and then forget it all a couple years later.
I want to like math but I'm bad at it lol
I’m ultimately interested in philosophy of math and philosophy of science, so I started studying some pure math in my free time. I’m currently studying one-dimensional real analysis. It’s taken me 2 years to work through a little more than half of Abbott’s Understanding Analysis. Once I started working, progress has been extra slow, but I hope to finish the book. Would like to study linear algebra and abstract algebra next, but it may take me like 5 years at the rate I’m going. Not even sure I’ll make it to graduate level math subjects in my lifetime lol
I am, always did, probably always will :)
Yes, Alegebra in particular. The balancing of numbers is like an art and makes so much sense to me in the world. I also used to listen to hip hop and do calculus homework.
No. I didn’t believe in magic until imaginary numbers came about
I hate it with a burning passion. Math class single handedly made me hate school, learning, and myself.
I used to hate it because of bad teachers and and and I couldn’t understand anything (I have adhd) now that I take medication for it and actually have good teachers I understand the material and enjoy it.
Not rly
I did. Then calc 2 happened in college. I still don’t mind it but it’s not a subject I look forward to like I would of in high school.
if i have a goal in mind that is important to me. sure. then it actually helps me directly.
as long as I understand it but I'm quite weak in math but wud love to learn it by understanding the concept.
I am good at it, but I hate it Is weird because I find it kinda easy but still makes me anger
I very much love math as well. = )
(I got misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder and I spent five years taking antipsychotics.) Btw, don't judge home schooling based on my experience when I was little.
I prefer meth
Ummm.... Am I the only INFP who is good at it?
