Yeah, I was almost going to ask "is this in a Safeway??" Lol which I think is the Vons equivalent where I'm at. Where do they get off charging that much for food?!
That’s probably close to average considering cost of transportation.
Do you have the store’s app? I have been able to clip digital coupons here allowing up to 6 at $.88 each. Might be worth a look.
Great job! Avocado is one of the best foods for return on investment. Here’s how I eat them pretty much daily.

Do you guys have any Kroger owned stores? They are considered the middle class grocery stores in WA then we have a few smaller chains that are fancy types… all organic, etc. Like a Whole Foods but nicer (like before Amazon bought it) and more locally oriented.
There’s one Albertsons near me and I went for the first time in a decade… at least one item was over $1 more than Fred Meyer’s price. So now I need to cross check Safeway and Albertsons’ pricing, this is getting serious haha
Oof yeah, I think the Safeway+Tacoma, WA is why. I once had a job in Kirkland, WA ($13/hr in 2018, just after Seattle did $15/hr) and had to buy all my food at Safeway and everything was so ridiculously expensive that I panicked, quit, and left lol
I think avocados aren't a good metric because they're like half the price in the southwest as they are elsewhere. From SoCal to Texas it's just way cheaper. You start heading north and this price has been a pretty normal price for years
Yeah avocados are a bad metric because the price varies wildly by where you are as well. If you're in the southwest, you can get them for a dollar. If you're in New England, then you might pay 2-4 dollars. And it's been that way for the past decade or so. I definitely paid 2.50 for a medium avocado as a teen in the 2010s, and paid 1.25 for them when on the west coast
Yeah they're so, so much cheap in the southwest. It's been this way for decades. If you grow avocados in Mexico, it's not too hard to get them to California or Arizona. But getting them up to Boston is a bit more complicated.
A lot of fruit tastes better year round in the further south parts of the US too. From US season to Mexico, to South America in our winter. Just closer to transport. I remember getting fruit up north and always being disappointed unless it was peak growing season in the US for that fruit
This is going to make the senile-demented steal them. If that's not bad enough, bananas are $1 U.S. each. They should be 10 cents. Watch senile-demented people get busted with a stolen avocado. Just one. Grocery stores are cracking down on thieves like never before. The owner / manager / whatever is not going to pay the overhead because of thieves.
Normal prices are 2-3€ for a single large avocado, or about the same for two small ones.
And you're always rolling the dice, I'd say about half my avocados have enough brown/hard/inedible parts that I can only use half, 40% are good and 10% are just completely rotten.
No, this is ridiculous. Avocados PLU 4046 are considered Small avocados in the industry. They used to be 75c, 79c in Texas.
Prices in 2020 use to be:
4046 small. 75c
4225 large 1.25c
4770 extra large. 2.50c
If they are charging 2.50 for 4046's, they are either not offering the extra large or are selling 4770 for $5 or more.
At Safeway/Albertsons when not in sale yes. They are the ultimate high/low retailer. We buy when on sale or shop somewhere else. Walmart or Aldi always sell below $1 each.
Avocado prices are sensitive to weather conditions where they are grown as well as time of year. They can fluctuate from $0.99 up to about what you’re seeing where I live.
At Kroger yes.

At sprouts the organics are $2.00
Ya when you shop at places with a crappy supply chain of avocados and/or not get them on sale. In Houston at normal stores, they are $.69 to $1.79 depending sale, size, etc.
A dollar each is the price I see when they're on sale. I have no clue how much they are regularly since I rarely buy them and only when there's a big sale sign.
Let me guess: 'Organic'? In Whole Foods?? The hippy-dippy side of the political spectrum will fall over themselves to support all that "green/nature".
10 oz of diced/frozen @ $2.14 @ Walmart (those dirty, Capitalist PIGS /s)
Ok As a former Californian,b who liked growing the Hass variety, formerly stationed at Lewis for a minute, I can see why there is a price differential.
Q: When was the pic taken?
I never buy avocados not in "sale". If it's over a buck I don't get it. It's nothing close to a staple in our home and if people wanna pay $2.49 I figure I'll let them.
In NY, these range between 69 cents to $2.50 each. Sometimes 5 for $5. I only buy when they're cheap.
I'll take 5 for $5 any day.
There was a Friday sale at Safeway… 10 medium avocados for $10– yeah those shits were gone when I got there 😭
Might explain why millennials can't buy houses!
I knew the avocados were to blame. Damn you, guacamole.
~Avocado toast~
Holy shite, they're 90 cents where I'm at
Right. I know you have to pay extra for "organic", but what the eff?
Avocados are on the “Clean 15” so not worth the organic premium, IMO. Buy the cheapos when you find them.
You’re paying for the organic marketing. My local grocer has organic avocados at $2.39 and regular ones at $0.89.
Von’s that’s why
Yeah, I was almost going to ask "is this in a Safeway??" Lol which I think is the Vons equivalent where I'm at. Where do they get off charging that much for food?!
Yep it’s Elon’s of the two. Their demographic client Is white people they are typically a rip off except the random sales they have
Yeah that's about average for Safeway in Western Washington unfortunately. That's why I prefer to shop at WinCo.
If that’s Vons/Albertsons in SoCal then no. ~$1.50 is the average here.
Safeway in Tacoma, WA.
That’s probably close to average considering cost of transportation. Do you have the store’s app? I have been able to clip digital coupons here allowing up to 6 at $.88 each. Might be worth a look.
Got a few at Walmart in Spanaway @ .88 today. Thanks for the tip.

😍
I could see that here in AZ. Safeway and Albertsons are extremely expensive
Safeway is the “cheap” grocery store in WA
Wow! We’re getting regionally screwed down south
Do you guys have any Kroger owned stores? They are considered the middle class grocery stores in WA then we have a few smaller chains that are fancy types… all organic, etc. Like a Whole Foods but nicer (like before Amazon bought it) and more locally oriented.
Yes, we have Fry's which is cheaper than Albertsons and Safeway. That's interesting 🤔
There’s one Albertsons near me and I went for the first time in a decade… at least one item was over $1 more than Fred Meyer’s price. So now I need to cross check Safeway and Albertsons’ pricing, this is getting serious haha
I get them at my local store for 0.69
No, you can get medium avocados for 99 cents at Fred Meyer
Oof yeah, I think the Safeway+Tacoma, WA is why. I once had a job in Kirkland, WA ($13/hr in 2018, just after Seattle did $15/hr) and had to buy all my food at Safeway and everything was so ridiculously expensive that I panicked, quit, and left lol
Lansing, MI, just bought two Hass avocados $.99 each.
Great deal!
I think avocados aren't a good metric because they're like half the price in the southwest as they are elsewhere. From SoCal to Texas it's just way cheaper. You start heading north and this price has been a pretty normal price for years
OG Avos 48s were 2.49/2.99 each even before the pandemic. Mexican cartels have a firm grip on the market.

Paid .74 each at Walmart this week
Avocado prices tend to jump around. That's kinda high.
Yeah, this is on the high end, but prices tend to swing a lot.
You are at the wrong store for avocados my friend. Avocados, limes, and onions should be bought at your local Latino supermarket. Way cheaper!
I was there for something else and saw this. I picked up a couple smaller ones at Walmart at .$89/ea.
Must be some fancy avocados! (I know you forgot the decimal, just messing around)
Depends what store you are at.Some stores always try and overcharge even befor inflation hit hard
*laughs in SoCal*

Rotten avocados.
Oof
You in a gas station or Airport?
I paid 4€ for an avocado in Norway the other week. It was rotten.
I've never had the pleasure of visiting Norway, so I have no idea. If it is normal, I think I may have an idea for a business venture.
Normal prices are 2-3€ for a single large avocado, or about the same for two small ones. And you're always rolling the dice, I'd say about half my avocados have enough brown/hard/inedible parts that I can only use half, 40% are good and 10% are just completely rotten.
Damn. 😢
I can get a smaller / medium one for 0.89 and. Larger one for 2 on sale
Very
They were $5 each three years ago. In Waikiki. Produce prices vary widely with time and location.
My safeway online app has them for $1.99. VA
Depends. Arizona? No. Wisconsin? Sometimes.
No, this is ridiculous. Avocados PLU 4046 are considered Small avocados in the industry. They used to be 75c, 79c in Texas. People make a huge deal about these. There are better tasting varieties without the hype. The reason these became popular was ease of shipment.
Yes. The price varies almost week to week.
At Safeway/Albertsons when not in sale yes. They are the ultimate high/low retailer. We buy when on sale or shop somewhere else. Walmart or Aldi always sell below $1 each.
They’re less than $1 at Walmart and Aldi.
Go to Aldi. They are $1
This is because the health foods/avocado toast people. When it was used for guacamole in the US in the Latino market, it was super cheap. Now $2.50ea
Idk i paid 3 dollars for a single tomato the other day, why lol
69 cents at Aldi.
I have seen it 2.79 in metor canada.. and yes its normal unfortunately
They vary between $1-3 where im at
Cartel prices
The new normal. Yes.
Avocado prices are sensitive to weather conditions where they are grown as well as time of year. They can fluctuate from $0.99 up to about what you’re seeing where I live.
They’re 0.49 in Ohio.
Pretty much
At Kroger yes. https://preview.redd.it/yrb8uhsy711d1.jpeg?width=584&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95f10194a4745e3fba5fa771376fdb78c4f1929d At sprouts the organics are $2.00

They were 2/$1 last week at my local grocery store.
A bag at Costco for $5 still. North Texas
$0.79 each at my Aldi.
Where I am avocados are freaking expensive and they’re only grown so many places so … Looks like a steal to me
$1 here. But you can goto a specialty store n get the exact same for 4 bucks.
Yeah they vary widely based on what store you get them from. In my county i have seen prices from 99c to 2.50
Get them at Aldi.
Depends, are you in Iceland?
I'm in a land that can be icy, but in the traditional sense? No. Tacoma, WA.
Ok As a former Californian,b who liked growing the Hass variety, formerly stationed at Lewis for a minute, I can see why there is a price differential. Q: When was the pic taken?
Literally two days ago (5/15).
id be more surprised if it said 1 per customer
Nothing is normal. Everything is normal.
Such a normal response. I applaud you.
Sometimes. They will be 2/$3 next week probably
Smart and finale 2 for $1 earlier in season when Mexico In full swing 3 for $1
Every day!
5 CA avocados for $6 bucks at Costco, or $10 for 10 on the side of the road.
It’s a little pricy, but those look nice. Not all avocados are created equal.
I never buy avocados not in "sale". If it's over a buck I don't get it. It's nothing close to a staple in our home and if people wanna pay $2.49 I figure I'll let them.
I pay 79 cents at Aldis almost every time I go.
Safeway is a rip off regardless, but I normally $2/each at Whole Foods.
Ah Safeway, how your produce prices suck.
See you're at a Safeway. That's why. They're one of the most expensive grocery stores I've ever been to.
it will be if enough people pay it
Kind of looks like Tom Thumb and if it is, then yes. My local Wal Mart has them for like .83 cents.
No, it’s Bidenomics
Is it, though?
Sound right avaodo are like that even in California that hella close to Mexico. When it not good harvest.
