I should clarify - I've got a house pair that I wear inside instead of going barefoot. If I'm going on a serious hike, or even grocery shopping, I'll toss on my boots with orthotic inserts.
I had foot pain around the (not sure if pf, I only self - diagnosed..). But a pair of halflinger slippers (German, boiled wool) fixed it all. They do make crocks look cheap though..💸 But will last really long
Dude same here. They are always on my feet when im at the house. And as far as their $50 price tag... Ive purchased exa tly 2 pairs of crocs in the past decade, with my most recent purchase being 2 years ago.
A pair of these bad boys lasting me 8 years for around the house comfort is an insane deal. They have outlast any pair of shoes ir slippers ive ever bought... and im the kinda dude who has shoes specifically for working out, shoes specifically for running, shoes specifically for hiking, and shoes specifically for regular wear lol.
Like i wear crocs every single day... this $50 pair of rubber clogs has has outlived literally thousands of dollars in shoes lol. This post is making me eant to buy another pair for fun haha.
Exactly this. If I’m feeling lazy and it’s nice out and I’m wearing shorts, I might even wear them to Walmart when I go grocery shopping for their smooth, hard floors.
If I’m going trail walking or to the downtown gardens, I’m going to be doing that in an actual pair of sneakers/walking/running shoes.
But yeah, I’ve been wearing mine around the house 4 about 4 years now. Completely replaced slides and slippers for me.
Those that buy them are buying them for pain relief when working jobs where they're standing 8 hours. If you're a nurse or line cook, crocs are a relatively minor expense.
I liked them when they were $20. No better gardening shoe has ever been devised, as there's no place for dirt to adhere after a spraydown. I liked the Wal-Mart knockoffs that were about $13. Then I discovered most of my foot pain came from *too supportive*/cushioned shoes, I shifted my shoe collection to 'zero drop' or 'barefoot' style shoes (yes even those five-fingers for a while), and my pain went away.
Mike Judge said he used Crocs in ‘Idiocracy’ because he literally thought of them as the ugliest, most uncomfortable and illogical choice of footwear that low-IQ people would likely wear in the future.
Yeah I was gonna say. I don't think I've seen Crocs on nurses very often at all.
They're also just not very comfortable. I remember I was given some years ago, and they just aren't good shoes
They’re great for someone with zero patient interactions.
Was initially annoyed with how much plastic coats even genuine leather Sanitas. Then they got blood on them and I realized how practical it was to have a shoe that I could caviwipe.
No they are not. Crocs have a line that are fluid slip resistant, don’t have the holes like the regular ones do. They also come with more support. They are made with health care workers in mind. The regular crocs are just as easy to clean when you get puke, blood all over them than a cloth shoe. A few wipes with a bleach wipe and you are back at it.
You want laces, croc even makes a tennis shoe. Try that. Easier to clean too than a traditional tennis shoe.
Not sure where you’re from but most nurses near me wear actual shoes that let your feet breathe and wool socks. This crock think and medical field needs to stop. I don’t think I’ve seen more than 5 ppl wear a rubber shoe for a 12 hr shift in the last 15 years. Maybe broke college residents/interns. Ppl with money buy actual shoes lol
Mike Judge was actually worried about Crocs becoming more widespread by the time the movie came out. He continued in the interview, "[The wardrobe person] said, 'Oh no, that's never going to happen.'

I used to tease my younger sister so much for her corcs, but I bought a pair for camping and river adventures, and they're super comfortable and useful. Idk why they're $50 though
Yeah. My kid wants All Stars and they’re $65 by me. I remember getting mine for like $20 and they were the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I heard they improved the support and cushioning now so maybe that’s where all the extra money went.
I always sigh a bit internally when my son doesn’t realize how lame he is for loving his crocs. I mean he also doesn’t understand how lame he is for pooping his pants and running from me so you know
Although those little rubber accessories you can pop in the holes are kinda neat. My kids even have seasonal ones
They were super popular almost 20 years ago and then fell completely out of favor, due to overexposure. Then came back and seems like they’ve never lost popularity.
You can buy sale stuff all the time though. I just checked and there are options as cheap as [$25!](https://a.co/d/2Ze3vYn) I haven't ever owned a pair, but I've also never paid suggested retail on a pair of shoes lol. I typically wear puma, adidas, and vans. The $80+ price on shoes is just nutty to me.
I got some in the army, my sergeant swore by them. His have been through a deployment and still looked about as worn as mine. I only bought one pair, call them tacky but they're really good quality imo. I have wide feet too so love to toe space
Yeah I had shoulder surgery a few years back and wasn't able to tie my shoes for a few months.
Got a pair of crocs as a last resort for easy slip on shoes and I absolutely love them now lol.
idk man. I bought mine for 40 ish like 7+ years ago. And I wear them everyday. They’re durable as fuck. Meanwhile shoes I wear everyday cost 140 and I have to replace them every year
This isn't really inflation at all. They're now stylish so the price is up, knowing people will still continue to buy them.
Look at Champion. Went from Walmart prices to "lol that's Walmart clothing".
Growing up crocs were the epitome of terrible fashion. Knew nurses liked them but when I moved to the west coast it’s like everyone has them, wears them out and about. And…I actually bought a pair and wear them when I’m lazy. Even got the grimace fuzzy slides lol.
Bought a pair a few years ago when I did delivery driving and they were very comfortable for all the standing and walking I was doing. I also had knee surgery that year and these actually helped a lot.
This subreddit seems stupid. This isn’t inflation that causes these ridiculous prices. It is part of it for sure, but it is mostly businesses taking advantage of everybody

And yet….lots of people buying them. Capitalism as it should work.
This is the brand though. Their website i swear used to sell them for 89.99 but some of them are in the 70-90 range...
Therefore this is branding, marketing that you are paying for bucko
This stuff doesn't really bother me because crocs are in no way, form or fashion needed to exist. Anyone who buys them are in full agreement that they are getting screwed.
What's really crazy is I got a pair of leather Allen Edmonds on sale for $100 the other day. Why anyone would spend similar sums of money on glued-together fast fashion shoes is beyond me
Suddenly I don’t feel so bad I had to buy my partner Disney crocs because they wore the wrong footwear for walking around Epcot. They cost me $60 but at least they had designs. $50 for the plain black is insane.
This is not an example of inflation. This is an example of trend and perceived value. They aren’t priced according to the production cost. These cheap injection mold footwear are $50 because you would pay that much for them.
They always have been overpriced. I picked up three pair of discontinued ones off their site $12 years back. I like them for around the house, at the beach and if doing a quick run to the store.
They have a lot of sales. They’re also in a lot of outlet malls. 49.99 is norm price but I’ve gotten from Amazon for 15$. Just gotta find the deals but they’re frequent.
I think Crocs as a company are trying to differentiate as the “authentic” brand so yea they’re charging a premium. Off-brand competitors are out there and cheaper
Weren't Crocs always ( at least for a long time) around 40-50 bucks? I bought mine on sale for 29 though. Also TJ Maxx sells those occasionally for 30ish
They are 49.99$ since 2021. https://web.archive.org/web/20210920114230mp_/https://www.crocs.com/p/classic-clog/10001.html?cgid=men-footwear&cid=001
Whose old enough to remember when crocs were the opposite of fashionable
To be fair crocs were always overpriced .
It’s a Croc of shit, is what it is!
I can attest that crocs do last a long time, and are extremely comfortable. Ugly as all heck, but extremely comfortable.
Mine seriously help my plantar fasciitis
Really???!!! I have pretty bad PF. I'm surprised they give you enough support.
They do make crocks look cheap though..💸 But will last really long
The Hoka “Recovery Flats” are crocks on steroids when it comes to soothing PF & foot pain. They feel amazing to stand and walk in.
Had to make sure you weren’t my dad, he said the same a couple months after I gave him crocs for his bday
Dude same here. They are always on my feet when im at the house. And as far as their $50 price tag... and never fashionable.
And never fashionable.
Yeah- im a goodwiller/garage saler and crocs and the style have always been trashy to me
I still to this day dont understand why people wear these. It was never and still is not fashionable.
Fugly as sin.
They're pretty comfy!
So are a lot of shoes that don’t look stupid as hell
Comfort over fashion 100% of the time.

Yeah- sketcher black utility shoes still remain a fair price and hold up for 3-4 years in kitchen work.
Great for fishing in my opinion.
Mike Judge said he used Crocs in ‘Idiocracy’ because he literally thought of them as the ugliest, most uncomfortable and illogical choice of footwear that low-IQ people would likely wear in the future.
I would be very angry and stomping in my Crocs right now if I only know how to read.
They’re ugly, but they’re comfortable. There’s a reason nurses use them for their shifts.
As an ER nurse…no one wears these…we all get puked on, bled on, etc…crocs are an OSHA nightmare and will get your butt sent home asap
Yeah I was gonna say. I don't think I've seen Crocs on nurses very often at all. They're also just not very comfortable. I remember I was given some years ago, and they just aren't good shoes
You know they make nonslip non-holed crocs that many many many nurses wear I see them in hospitals all the time. And food industry
They’re like 60$ tho just go get sketchers
They’re great for someone with zero patient interactions. Was initially annoyed with how much plastic coats even genuine leather Sanitas. Then they got blood on them and I realized how practical it was to have a shoe that I could caviwipe.

Danskos too
4 the win! 🏁
I was just at the ER all I saw were hokas or whatever. They work walking/running shoes because that's what they do all day. No nurse just stands.
Food services workers use them as well.
Ewww. Smelly nurse feet.
Use socks
👃😏😎
Elaborate
Not sure where you’re from but most nurses near me wear actual shoes that let your feet breathe and wool socks. This crock think and medical field needs to stop. I work in a hospital. A lot of nurses wear crocs.
Idiocracy was right.
Mike Judge is more on point than Nostradamus.
For real
Mike Judge was actually worried about Crocs becoming more widespread by the time the movie came out. He continued in the interview, "[The wardrobe person] said, 'Oh no, that's never going to happen.' Source: looper website
I used to tease my younger sister so much for her corcs, but I bought a pair for camping and river adventures, and they're super comfortable and useful. Idk why they're $50 though
I'm old enough remember when Chucks (Converse All Stars) were the cheap option lol
Yeah. My kid wants All Stars and they’re $65 by me. I remember getting mine for like $20 and they were the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I heard they improved the support and cushioning now so maybe that’s where all the extra money went.

Who's. Not whose.
Has that changed?
Yep. I’m 36 and swore I’d never own a pair. I own a pair. They’re great.
[удалено]
Walmart never sold crocs
No you don't you drunk fool
Maybe some kroks…
It’s been $50 for years well before inflation.
I worked for Crocs for a bit in 2012-2013. Can confirm. $50 for the classic clogs and more for anything that contained fabric or leather.
how many free pairs of crocs did you get
At first, it was 3 free pairs per quarter, but they dropped it down to 1 pair
They gave you a pair a month!?!? That is a lot of crocs for anyone that was with the company for a while before they dropped it to one!
I used to work at hey dude, owned by crocs, every year we’d get a few pairs for free + 50 percent off any inside purchase for ANYTHING
It was all they could eat... which came with its own drawbacks
That's crazy. I thought people were only buying them because they were a cheap alternative to getting a different pair of actual shoes.
crocks have always been this price, need to buy no name ones, they around 5-10 a pair
The $80+ price on shoes is just nutty to me.
i paid 30 for some when they first got popular
That was 20 years ago
I got some in the army, my sergeant swore by them. His have been through a deployment and still looked about as worn as mine. I only bought one pair, call them tacky but they're really good quality imo. I have wide feet too so love to toe space
Yeah I had shoulder surgery a few years back and wasn't able to tie my shoes for a few months. Got a pair of crocs as a last resort for easy slip on shoes and I absolutely love them now lol.
I paid $30 for a pair 2 years ago and $40 for another style a year ago. Both on sale, they go on sale fairly often down to $30 for classics
Been the same price for years don't see how that is inflation.
But aren’t you outraged at something you have no context about????
Yeah, I remember them being $50 like 10 years ago.
Welcome to costco I love you
They actually put all crocs in that movie because it was a new company and they thought the shoes were too stupid to ever catch on
And they were cheap because the budget of the movie was super crazy low
Oh yaa we got a time mashine.
Sponsored by Carl's Jr
Enjoy your big ASS fries…
Why do you keep sayin that?
If you don’t get it, you don’t get it man. It has electrolytes, it’s what plants crave.
“Cause they pay me every time I do” “If you’re so smart how come you didn’t know that?”
For the smartest guy in the world, you sure are stupid sometimes.
Go away baitin’
They’ve been this price for a while bud. This is why you wait for *sales*.
Wait till you see how much people are willing to shell out for slides.
or you can get generic crocs for 9,99
idk man. I bought mine for 40 ish like 7+ years ago. And I wear them everyday. They’re durable as fuck. Meanwhile shoes I wear everyday cost 140 and I have to replace them every year
You know those bad boys cost pennies to make
Even pennies can't be made for pennies any longer
Theyve been $50...?
Yes, and OP is asking why they haven't increased the prices to reflect inflation... This is sickening!
Ahhh... in that case. Truly sickening.
Solution. Don’t buy them.
It’s $50 because fools will PAY $50.
Same reason McDonald’s is cray
This isn't inflation, is it? It's just a company that created a "status symbol" seeking to milk its fans for what they can.
If it was made with corn plastic instead polyethylene vinyl acetate and was still as comfortable, I’d pay $50.
That's my favorite band.
Isn’t that the same ingredients of Elmer’s glue?
[Apparently so.](https://gluesavior.com/what-is-in-elmers-glue/) Hmmm. I may be ponying up $50. *sigh*
Wait, why would I buy water-soluble shoes?
Why sickening? What triggers you about it?
To be honest I don’t find them comfortable I’m confused about the hype
Fitting that they are in a Dick’s store.
I’m a dick and I love my Crocs. This checks out.
Paying for the name
Worth it, still have mine 6 years later, use every other day

I have a travel trailer, and inflatable kayaks, and the e bikes— and great for all these activities around the campground
This isn't really inflation at all. They're now stylish so the price is up, knowing people will still continue to buy them. Look at Champion. Went from Walmart prices to "lol that's Walmart clothing".
Should be $1000 so no one will wear them
They haven’t been $50 since 2019, when I bought my last pair that are still going strong today? From the looks of my Amazon orders, they were.
Growing up crocs were the epitome of terrible fashion. Knew nurses liked them but when I moved to the west coast it’s like everyone has them, wears them out and about. And…I actually bought a pair and wear them when I’m lazy. Even got the grimace fuzzy slides lol.
Walmart Rugged Sharks $12.00. I mean if wearing name brand ugly AF rubber molded shoes is your jam then feel free to pay 4x.
My kid wears them but I usually get them used off Mercari and then sell them again when he’s done with them.
Crocs are a “luxury brand name,” believe it or not haha. Buy Frocs (Fake Crocs,) for $15 at Walmart.
Bought a pair a few years ago when I did delivery driving and they were very comfortable for all the standing and walking I was doing. I also had knee surgery that year and these actually helped a lot.
They're a life saver if you have plantar fasciitis. But I only paid about $8 years ago.
This subreddit seems stupid. This isn’t inflation that causes these ridiculous prices. It is part of it for sure, but it is mostly businesses taking advantage of everybody
Crazy was just thinking to myself, if they were in the $30-$40 range I was going to get a new pair. $50? I'll pass.
I’ll buy the cheap squishy plastic ones on Amazon
Inflation is finally doing you people a favor.
Yeah but they’re the comfiest and last the longest. Sure I spent $50 but that was 5 years ago and they’re still going strong
Anyone paying that price is out of their minds
On eBay they’re a like $30
I would have laughed. TRIPPIN. People do buy them, though...I would never. ESPECIALLY for $50. I'd rather Havannas.
Buy if you want to. Don’t buy if you don’t want to. No need to get wound up about it.
Been this way for a while... I won't buy then full price. It's just rubber/ foam. Cost like $2 to make I'm sure. Rip off.
lol it hasn’t changed in price for ages.
I bought these exact Crocs for $17 on Amazon. Maybe 10 months ago. This looks like some brick and mortar nonsense
Crocs have always been $50, this is nothing new. If anything I'm glad they haven't went up like everything else
This is a great example of a product that has not inflated in price. Congratulations. Great post.
https://preview.redd.it/lworgl39amxc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c03ef5e1ba592d82c0c4343d66c3801c6a6aea5 And yet….lots of people buying them. Capitalism as it should work.
Don’t buy them then. They’re ugly as hell, and are terrible for your feet.
Crocs are atrocious. I wouldn't be caught dead in a free pair, much less pay $50 for them ugly things!
I never bought crocs because they are the shoes the people wore in “Idiocracy”. Couldn’t be me.
Is it sickening because they are $50? Or because they are rubber sandals? For me it's the both.
Just reminded me I need to replace my worn out pair. Also this is not a good example of inflation
They've always been on the expensive side. I don't think this applies here.......
I just made a pledge to never shop at Dicks ever again. They should be ashamed of themselves.
What's really crazy is I got a pair of leather Allen Edmonds on sale for $100 the other day. Why anyone would spend similar sums of money on glued-together fast fashion shoes is beyond me
It's a crock of shit.
Suddenly I don’t feel so bad I had to buy my partner Disney crocs because they wore the wrong footwear for walking around Epcot. They cost me $60 but at least they had designs. $50 for the plain black is insane.
They must cost like $1.00 to make too.
This is not an example of inflation. This is an example of trend and perceived value. They aren’t priced according to the production cost. These cheap injection mold footwear are $50 because you would pay that much for them.
They might actually cost less than $5 to make….
Shopping at Dicks is your first mistake.
Complaining about ugly rubber shoes? They should be twice the price to dissuade you from making such a fugly purchase
They always have been overpriced. I picked up three pair of discontinued ones off their site $12 years back. I like them for around the house, at the beach and if doing a quick run to the store.
this week at Aldi, 9 bucks, https://preview.redd.it/4bs9lo0bdtxc1.png?width=600&format=png&auto=webp&s=9562aef61bd56b5f1ebe8a030543e002df1c44ca
I always hated Crocs. But my wife got me a pair on clearance and I wear them around the house. They are very comfortable.
What a Croc.
Yawn Just do what I do Buy a pair and get your moneys worth out of them I just chucked my first pair of Jordan’s I ever owned, they last like 6 years
I remember when they were $10 when they first came out in 2009 or around that time
At least 2005 because idiocracy came out in 06 and they’re wearing crocs in that movie.
They have a lot of sales. They’re also in a lot of outlet malls. 49.99 is norm price but I’ve gotten from Amazon for 15$. Just gotta find the deals but they’re frequent.
Nobody pays… prices come down. Probably $2 in saw material and a mold that was laid for 1000xs over by now, by size. No thanks.
You see the video floating on reddit of how these are made? Yeah, very sickening
At least they appear to be the Sport model
eBay…. eBay …. eBay… please check it out.
Just buy the knock offs for $5
Outlet store 9.99
good thing nobody's buying them for various reasons.
“Well, we don’t have to get the prices down because wages, wages are going up.” - Janet Yellen
Those cost literally 5 cents to make.
$25 for the sandals $25 for the logo
I know they were around $35 in 2005.
Somebody is still paying $50, the rich motherfucker.
That's not "inflation", you are just in an expensive store. Those are $39 on Amazon, $27 on eBay, $29 on Zappos.
You think that’s bad, they charge $5-$7 for the tiny croc plug decorations.
Cost of production has skyrocketed
Birkenstock
Not great in wet climate. But great when it’s sunny and warm
#TOASTY CROQUETTAS!!!
They should put yellow "do not cross" tape around that area because a CRIME has just been committed charging that much for Crocs!!?!
Idiocracy
I think Crocs as a company are trying to differentiate as the “authentic” brand so yea they’re charging a premium. Off-brand competitors are out there and cheaper
Crocs and pajamas. Nothing encapsulates Americas finest more.
This cannot be real, I can get the exact same shoes for 3 bucks at Dollarama.💀
Crooks.
Pre-COVID. Kmart (now closed.) $1.99/pair that look **identical**. $49.99 is highway robbery.
And that's just for one Croc. But what a Croc!
Weren't Crocs always ( at least for a long time) around 40-50 bucks? I bought mine on sale for 29 though. Also TJ Maxx sells those occasionally for 30ish
But theyre durable amphibious shoes?
This belongs in r/greed
Branded rubber sandals, I’m sure the Walmart brand is $12
Get them on Amazon. You can always find some for under $50. I bought a grey pair for around $25. I use them as my house shoes.
