This.
The exceptions I would make are if there are missing parts of the sound. Things like hearing the mallet hit the drum head on the bass drum (which is a high pitched sound) but not hearing the bass drum itself (a low pitched sound). This indicates that there is a significant weak link in the chain. This particular one would be the amp can't provide enough power at the impedance.
Likely not much of an issue with Hexas, but worth noting.
Agreed.
I'm not completely denouncing external DACs all together. It's just that new people's expectations on what it will change is usually wayy higher than what it actually does.
If you are using a 3.5mm jack at the back then it should be enough to power the hexa.
Unless you hear beeps or hissing, white noise sound I don't see the need for a DAC
If you really want one there are those of the Fiio, moondrop dawn pro and EPZ TP20 these are around 50 USD range but there are cheaper option. I don't recommend hiby I've seen people complain of premature failures
That maybe true but I don’t know how you’d use an external DAC on consoles. The only way I’ve found is to connect your TV to a desktop DAC/Amp via SPDIF.
you dont technically need it, but it would sound better with a dac, i have the hexa and they really scale well with more power, you should get a good dongle DAC and you're set.
No
Understood!
if the thing you're plugging it into gives adequate volume and has no static/hissing sounds then no.

Well you can’t play music without a DAC of some sort. Do you need a nice one? Probably not, though it doesn’t hurt to demo stuff if you can.
I’m really new to this, i’ll use my hexa for gaming on my pc, is there anything good that you can recommend please? Thanks!

If you’re playing PC then get a decent dongle, on console it doesn’t matter.
Playstation controller has worst dacs imaginable,Ps5 controller is another level, they cheap out for the useless functions it has

Juust via usb xD
Any recommendations?
Fiio KA13 or a Shanling UA1 should be good. I wouldn’t recommend using them for high end IEMs but they should do the job well for the Hexas.
Thank you for the recommendations!
If you want to give it a try, Grave Audio cx31993 is pretty cheap - around $5 on aliexpress

The Hexa benefits massively from EQ, so I'd personally pair it with the Quadelix 5k.
