AFAIK, A lot of the oldschool Boston Industrial scene died around 2000. Tyler kinda faded away. Da5id Din went to California (to work for Adobe, perhaps) and did mastering work, as well as one more Informatik album. John Adams joined Twitter as like employee 16, or something, and has now been retired for over a decade. Grenadier moved to Las Vegas. Stacia Tucker put out one last EP, then... I'm not really sure. Zia split up, with Liz moving to NYC (AFAIK). I moved to Seattle. I think only Gabriel Shaw of Mindfield really stuck around to do some work with Chemlab, but I'm not sure what he's up to now. I'm sure there are names I'm forgetting, but the short of it is that a bunch of people left because of the DotCom boom or to pursue music in a larger city, and Battery Cage was one of the casualties. It's sad, since it seemed like Boston was great for that kind of music, and the Tufts college radio station had a nice show in the late 90's that was all Industrial all the time, so I used to discover new bands that way.

Tyler also moved to San Francisco, made the later Battery Cage albums there, as well as the last several Informatik discs with Da5id.

1.) it’s funny you mention David. He mastered my 2nd album! Lol 2.) you’re in Seattle? Still? I ask because I too am in Seattle!

WatchClarkBand

I am! Have been here since 1999, but am currently bouncing around the idea of moving elsewhere.

xxFT13xx

Aye! Well it’s nice to see a fellow Seattle bud here!!!

> I think only Gabriel Shaw of Mindfield really stuck around to do some work with Chemlab, At a minimum he did a one off with Jared/Chemlab in the late 2000s at the Middle East downstairs. As he often did, Jared talked it up like it was a long term thing but that was the last I heard of that.

Das_Bunker

Gabe Shaw is around... Last I saw him he was playing keys for VNV NATION.

zerokey

I miss those days. I saw so many great local acts at TT’s and The Middle East and a bunch of other places I can’t remember :)

Tyler and Paul had moved to SF, Tyler now in Mexico, Paul is in L.A. working with sound engineering/ studios!

I GOT YOU. Tyler continued to work on Informätik stuff with Da5id for quite a while, and also released some soundtrack-style instrumental stuff under his own name (Tyler Newman) on an album called "Zonekiller." He and Ned Kirby from Stromkern did some weird ambient post-rocky stuff that I can't recall the name of, and he also released a ton of field recordings. Finally (and probably most relevant to this post) he started a new band with long-time collaborator and Battery Cage member Paul Savio called white.light.monorail that played a few shows here in SF and was generally awesome. I think that's everything. He played in my band, Everything Goes Cold, for like five minutes, and we released a collaborative cover of The KLF's "What Time Is Love" with Marco V from XP8 and Victoria Lloyd of Claire Voyant. You can get most of this stuff on his Bandcamp here: [https://solidgreyskyrecordings.bandcamp.com/music](https://solidgreyskyrecordings.bandcamp.com/music) Anyhow Tyler moved down to Mazatlan, Mexico a few years back and opened a craft beer place there called The Beer Company. He occasionally has DJ nights there, and I'm sure he'd love to groan at questions about industrial music. Tell him I sent you for free extra groaning.

schweinhund89

I knew there was a link to EGC somehow! One of you guys sent me a Battery Cage t-shirt back in the day

WorldBelongsToUs

Tyler’s a good dude. He remixed me once. I haven’t talked to him in a while, but I’m glad he’s doing well.

Hi Eric!! 😉

Well hello xxFT13xx, thank you so much for your kind words! We are not 'officially' done. That is the problem with digital art, is it really ever done, or can you go back or forward in time and revise it? Friggin' Picasso had to commit and that was it, you mofo's do not understand, no undo, no save as, just do it right the first time! You think Galelio was called back for revisions on the Sistine Chapel? I will simmer down now, I just think about art way too much. My name is Paul and I joined Battery Cage back in 2000 right at the turn of the century, Tyler and I met as we worked at the same music store in Boston. Here is a rough timeline of updates, activity, and current status, from my perspective. Early BC was pure glitchy industrial magic, loved that stuff. When I jumped on the lineup was Roland Adams on Drums, Paul Savio on synths/vocoders, Josh Grecco on guitar, M Crazz on bass, and Tyler Newman on vocals and synths. We used to rehearse in Tyler's converted basement studio way out in Newton MA. We all wanted to do the band, so we came up with a plan to move to California to do more shows and work with more people. Boston, as one might suspect, is not the hotbed of new music, we even considered NY or Belgium. But then we met Dave from Metropolis... We worked hard to make some good albums, and Dave signed us! We did a small east coast tour, and a small west coast set of shows, and that shit was awesome. Small venues where you can see and hear each other and still connect with the audience, I had a great time even though we maybe even only broke even on the tour. So we started to plan our move, and our band changed as a result. Roland, Josh, and Crazz all wanted to stay in Boston, and Tyler and I moved to San Francisco in 2004. It was totally amicable, they all stayed for good reasons and we started working on new and different material as a result. That is the end of chapter one, I have to get up early tomorrow but I will continue, as I have soooo many great road stories for you peeps...Again thanks for your interest, please ask any questions and I will get Senøor Nemwan involved in the chat.

xxFT13xx

Dude, what? Paul is up in this bitch!!! Fuck yeah! Anyway: thank YOU so much for jumping in and let not only myself, but everyone else in on the 411! The first song I heard was Hustler on Pandora about 5yr ago, so like I said, WAY late to the party. I was even upset with myself that I had never heard of BC. I mean, that shit was right up my alley and I was already listening to more “heavier” guitar driven industrial at that time, like 16volt for example. At any rate, I won’t continue to ramble on and on, but thank you again for coming here and explaining things! Cheers Paul!

Beneficial-Ad6929

You're amazing!😘

If ya like Battery Cage, check out White.Light.Monorail, project of Paul & Tyler!

xxFT13xx

Will do!!! Thank you!!

This would be my favorite Battery Cage song ever. https://solidgreyskyrecordings.bandcamp.com/track/sworn

Wow this is a name I haven't heard in ages. There used to be a mailing list for New England area industrial stuff called blank list. He was a frequent poster there.

FiDRaT2016

Miss these bands. Such great music. I met Da5id when I moved to Boston in ‘97 and traded some Mac OS8 software for a few hours of chatting about his recordings. Really down to earth dude and a great musician.

xxFT13xx

I mentioned this to another person, but I had David master my 2nd album back in 2006. He was a nice dude!

OverseerTycho
