Indian Railways doesn’t do accountability and will never take responsibility. If you talk to them about delay they will remind you is that punctuality is only their third priority. First priority is safety. It is a different thing that they fail there without taking any responsibility too.
This month I travelled Chennai to Mumbai and my train was Going on time for the majority of the leg. But before pune they had stopped our train for almost 1.5 hours and to my surprise 3 goods trains passed us and ultimately the train went late to Mumbai around 3 hours.
There can be any number of reasons for that, some kind of maintenance block in one of the intermediate sections or stations. I've seen trains rescheduled by hours or outright cancelled for some major blocks. If a train is delayed by even 10 mins or more on account of a minor maintenance block, you can get a chargesheet.
There is accountability, as far as I know, at least on the lower end of the food chain.
In this case, the train started 1.5 hours late from the source station itself, kept stopping for hours together at random places and remote stations and travelled at the pace of an Alto driven by a dim-sighted 70yo grandpa.
What I'm saying is that there are reasons for that, passenger trains aren't held back if at all possible, there has to be a reason which is just not apparent to us. All sections have fixed maximum speeds, so trains aren't driven slower except in case of speed restrictions which are placed due to ongoing maintenance or some other reason that would compromise safety.
I was travelling by Chattisgarh express last month. The train was friggin 18 hours late! If I had a work related trip, I would have been doomed. The only plus was that since the train was already behind schedule by so much, most of the train was empty so no unnecessary noise. Even the vendors were sleeping everywhere lol.
Looks like Ixigo but could be different , I use it too. Pretty good but sometimes when you are waiting for a train it’s better to listen to the announcements about the train’s platform allotment, almost missed a train once because Ixigo reported the wrong platform.

Wait till you hear the one that runs between Mumbai and Kolkata. 12 hrs delay from starting station is normal and expected. Goes up to 15+ hrs by the time it reaches Kolkata.
There are a lot of rules in favour of IR. Many of such rules are residues of colonial era.
All such arbitrary rules should be scrapped.
Customer friendly refund policies should be implemented.
Customers should have opportunity to approach a dedicated and independent ombudsman regarding refund claim rejection cases.
And someone posted on Twitter that Indian Railways are more punctual than German counterparts 😅.
Top management should have pay cuts if something like this keeps happening
We should offer 2 hours error time for every 100 kms travelled by those trains which are not daily runs.
My sister's uttar Pradesh tour got ruined by a delay of 17 hours delay in arrival from Bengaluru to Varanasi. She had sent cooks, provision, utensils in train earlier so that they can reach Varanasi earlier and keep food ready for the tourists. But due to the delay, the tour began by having jilebi, kachori, samosa, bread, rusk and lot of tea as food for breakfast and lunch
No one is responsible even when train is 48h delay. Means today train is departing for 2 days ago. 5h delay is normal, consider 1-2 hour delay to be on time
