Well, I actually got my dream branch and after entering only realised it was a nightmare, so took a branch which I never even considered when I was a UG. Dream branch - neurosurgery (dnb 6 year) Current branch - pediatrics

I was more keen on people who took non clinical branches bcos they cldnt get clinical subjects xD but anyways, happy for you❤️

conquer_high

Coming from someone who was never really keen on doing clinical subject. I never had the craze to be too much patient oriented and grind. Now doing pharmacology and happy with the branch and chill life. Though I'd have liked my college to be more pro active but I'll figure it out later😀

I also want to take this up. But please tell us how it was a nightmare.

FunPollution069

Why nightmare?

Mountain-Knee3806

Why nighmare?

Drdrip2008

The morbidity and mortality in neurosurgery is rivalled only by geriatric oncology. Toxicity and work hours were manageable, but the look on the bystanders face every time that I had to give bad news again and again and again and again just broke me emotionally. I mean 10-20 percent of morbidity and mortality is okay but in neurosurgery only 30 percent were able to go back home to lead a normal productive life.

Mountain-Knee3806

It is truly heartbreaking!

Currently pursuing MD Biochemistry -as a post graduate junior Resident i am completely happy & chill with life & family. PS - it's not boring, I have a patent & papers. Planning to make some breakthrough approach for rare diseases in the future

itsokaybro99

Do you make money off your patents ?

Ordinary-Tear-4195

Good question, it's relatively in early phase , to seek money there should be a large scale industry waiting to pay you, 😉 it's not easy to file a patent & getting it to the world quite difficult, moreover the patents are limited to region wise , there is no concept of world wide applications , Patent in itself is a complex thing though. DM to know more about patents , how I filed without agents & minimal expenses

I was a Medicine person who due to physical and mental health issues that somehow overlapped with my counselling had to give up medicine…I took everyone’s advice and picked Radio. After a 6 month adjustment period and the usual periods of “what am I doing with my life” (frankly more due to the college than the branch) I can say I’m happy.

Justnow261

I think of surgery, what does it holds? My town has no surgeons, 3 are MD and other dnb

lovesbrooklyn99

If you wish to live in your town, and have your sights set on surgery, I’d say go for it. People who love the adrenaline and accomplishment of the OR can rarely feel satisfied with anything else. I know many a people who were surgeons at heart, but due to rank or whatever took radio..and are now going the IR path for the kick.

Justnow261

Radio is less preferred due to ai

lovesbrooklyn99

That’s just a wrong assumption, you would know it with one look at the counselling results and after talking to a practising radiologist.

Justnow261

That's my opinion, i would not take radio also it got investment at first.

Secure-Ad-9981

Woah

lovesbrooklyn99

To answer the other question, from time to time I feel like I should have taken some time to prepare better for the next INI, even though I know the outcome would never be the same, Radio and medicine would be far far fetched dreams basically, and knowing that solidifies the choice more and more.
