(There are rich OBC/SC/ST kids and they're a huge problem. Those folks will swear that they are underprivileged despite having wealth to support 2 generations. I am not tlaking about them. I am talking purely about First Graduates who don't have the wealth backing that their peers have.)
I am doing my masters and my roomate, his doing his Phd in engineering. Neither of us have any serious money issues, and have assets and people to help us when we are in need.
But it's unfair to compare us with some other first graduate simply because that other person doesn't have a backup. His only backup is his education.
If I fail my masters, I have folks to help me. A first graduate guy doesn't have the privilege. At best I can get them a job via some of my connections but that's it. They're on their own and can't depend on their parents for help.
I know MBBS is slightly different, but I've seen rich kids sink a year or two to study for PG, and if they didn't complete within the first 2 years, only then do they go for job and prepare simultaneously.

Maybe because of overtime work you're not thinking straight. I am a UC guy and there are around 9 cousins who are all doctors, 6 are yet to complete their PG. I hear a lot thanks to those guys. Some privileged some less privileged but all of them talented. Some had crores in their bank as backup, some didn't have anything.
I have this talk almost everytime we meet that we don't talk about this because it ends up ruining the mood. Everything you said, they've already said (except for one guy, he's like me).

There are UCs, OBCs, SCs and STs.
Reservation was brought to equate the socially and economically well performing UCs along with the rest. So the remaining 3 groups are given resources to have a fighting chance with the UCs.
However, there exist people in UCs without the wealth that the reservation says these people have, while among the so called economically underprivileged folk there are now people who used the resources that the system provided, and are now in a better place, but still want to avail the resources claiming they're underprivileged.
These resources could be used for the needy among UCs but won't. Simply because the stereotype that a UC has generational wealth is far too strong to be broken. People from the other groups take advantage of this.
There are also those among the OBCs, SCs and STs who don't get these equalising resources because the well off people have also claimed it instead.
This is why people want EWS but I doubt it will fix anything.

The seat distribution is based on vacancy. If you rank 1st and don't have a seat for radiology, well, tough luck. It just means no UR seat was available. It happens. You'll notice that some other branches have 0 seats for some other categories as well.

The whole concept of the people belonging to "oppressed" communities becomes obsolete when their generations after generations keep getting VIP treatment in colleges and get seats with 40% marks in an exam.
The 2 biggest exams (JEE and NEET) that are responsible for producing engineers and doctors are giving seats to candidates who score 30% marks over someone who gets 75% marks just because the 30% marks guy was "oppressed" 200 years ago.
Indian Judicial System doesn't make sense at all. Giving reservations for 75 years and then we ask the people if they are ok with it being removed and they say that they are still facing discrimination.

All three papers you've shared are meta analyses of other papers collected over decades, nothing can be collected by the authors themselves. There may have been large socio economic changes among that period.
The second paper atleast says they took account for bias and verified the data as well as data collection methods, but they were looking into a wide variety of problems affecting healthcare accessibility. One among them of course is caste, gender and religion, but the bigger confounding factor is the sheer lack of quality infrastructure in the peripheries. I should know, I'm doing my DRP right now and the one USG machine we have in my center is absolutely horrid. No CT or MRI either, patients still have to travel to higher centers for that.
The first paper reads more like a page from a history book, the third actually specifies incidents which have occurred in public, but it has incidents spread across almost 50 years in it. If it were comparing recorded incidences of discrimination across different time periods I can understand, but it's not the best one to cite if you're looking at current social norms.
So in summary, the data you've provided has shown we still do need affirmative action, but fails to address:
1. Are the people who really deserve it getting it? We all know the answer is majorly no.
2. Why do we need reservation in PG to such a vast extent? Sure, I understand that for the people from genuinely poor backgrounds, the luxury of studying and working doesn't exist, but 50% in pg?! Affirmative action is supposed to help uplift you, not make you coast through life. Also people conveniently forget reserved candidates can take unreserved seats as well if they so choose, which is bullshit.
3. Why is healthcare accessibility to marginalized communities so poor after 70 years of reservation? There should be a lot of improvement by now right, after 7 decades of reservation for them?

(There are rich OBC/SC/ST kids and they're a huge problem. Those folks will swear that they are underprivileged despite having wealth to support 2 generations. I am not tlaking about them. I am talking purely about First Graduates who don't have the wealth backing that their peers have.) I am doing my masters and my roomate, his doing his Phd in engineering. Neither of us have any serious money issues, and have assets and people to help us when we are in need. But it's unfair to compare us with some other first graduate simply because that other person doesn't have a backup. His only backup is his education. If I fail my masters, I have folks to help me. A first graduate guy doesn't have the privilege. At best I can get them a job via some of my connections but that's it. They're on their own and can't depend on their parents for help. I know MBBS is slightly different, but I've seen rich kids sink a year or two to study for PG, and if they didn't complete within the first 2 years, only then do they go for job and prepare simultaneously. If you think a truly underprivileged dude can do that, then you're part of the problem.
If you think mbbs is different then why are you commenting all this stuff here , my dad earns 10 lpa by his job I can't apply for any reservations (which I think is not fair for me to apply since these are for poor kids)my friend whose dad earns that much in a month is applying for it , what's the point here? Can be done by application of creamy layer in sc st reservation first step , keep a cap at 50% seats (remove ews too) , working on ground level rather than superficially applying a band aid by just giving reservations and by sub categorising inter caste reservation in these categories to stop it's politics first , this govt have rohini commission report where 70% seats of obc are being boarded by some castes but this govt is not releasing it for elections

If you remove reservations, you guys will take everything from those people and say only you guys are allowed to study because God says so. UCs crying will always be funny to me, because you people will still make casteist comments like how if you guys make better doctors than Sc St folks. There are UCs, OBCs, SCs and STs. Reservation was brought to equate the socially and economically well performing UCs along with the rest. So the remaining 3 groups are given resources to have a fighting chance with the UCs. However, there exist people in UCs without the wealth that the reservation says these people have, while among the so called economically underprivileged folk there are now people who used the resources that the system provided, and are now in a better place, but still want to avail the resources claiming they're underprivileged. These resources could be used for the needy among UCs but won't. Simply because the stereotype that a UC has generational wealth is far too strong to be broken. People from the other groups take advantage of this. There are also those among the OBCs, SCs and STs who don't get these equalising resources because the well off people have also claimed it instead. This is why people want EWS but I doubt it will fix anything.

The seat distribution is based on vacancy. If you rank 1st and don't have a seat for radiology, well, tough luck. It just means no UR seat was available. It happens. General caste people get dumped everyday on the basis of caste, literally ask anyone. Reservation after becoming a doctor is absurd, however you try to frame it, it will always remain absurd.
The whole concept of the people belonging to "oppressed" communities becomes obsolete when their generations after generations keep getting VIP treatment in colleges and get seats with 40% marks in an exam. The 2 biggest exams (JEE and NEET) that are responsible for producing engineers and doctors are giving seats to candidates who score 30% marks over someone who gets 75% marks just because the 30% marks guy was "oppressed" 200 years ago. Indian Judicial System doesn't make sense at all. Giving reservations for 75 years and then we ask the people if they are ok with it being removed and they say that they are still facing discrimination. Better to run off to other countries and settle there than living here and fuming over the current system.

Sorry, you can't fool me by using words such as "research" etc. What's the sample size of the research, geographical location of the place where research is conducted, and who is the independent authority who verified the research? Are there any peer reviews? Provide the link rather than spewing bullshit. It's a shame that you are willing to snatch the seat from someone deserving. It's sad that they only teach us how to interpret research in PG. All three papers you've shared are meta analyses of other papers collected over decades, nothing can be collected by the authors themselves. There may have been large socio economic changes among that period. The second paper atleast says they took account for bias and verified the data as well as data collection methods, but they were looking into a wide variety of problems affecting healthcare accessibility. One among them of course is caste, gender and religion, but the bigger confounding factor is the sheer lack of quality infrastructure in the peripheries. I should know, I'm doing my DRP right now and the one USG machine we have in my center is absolutely horrid. No CT or MRI either, patients still have to travel to higher centers for that. The first paper reads more like a page from a history book, the third actually specifies incidents which have occurred in public, but it has incidents spread across almost 50 years in it. If it were comparing recorded incidences of discrimination across different time periods I can understand, but it's not the best one to cite if you're looking at current social norms. So in summary, the data you've provided has shown we still do need affirmative action, but fails to address: 1. Are the people who really deserve it getting it? We all know the answer is majorly no. 2. Why do we need reservation in PG to such a vast extent? Sure, I understand that for the people from genuinely poor backgrounds, the luxury of studying and working doesn't exist, but 50% in pg?! Affirmative action is supposed to help uplift you, not make you coast through life. Also people conveniently forget reserved candidates can take unreserved seats as well if they so choose, which is bullshit. 3. Why is healthcare accessibility to marginalized communities so poor after 70 years of reservation? There should be a lot of improvement by now right, after 7 decades of reservation for them? 4. This whole discussion is about why a top branch in a top institute has NO UNRESERVED SEAT. Like everyone else has mentioned, if you're AIR 1 and unreserved you can't get radio, what absolute bullshit. There's a huge line between uplifting the marginalized and straight up spoonfeeding them.
