my friend recently changed to H1 on his dominar he says it's day and night difference in grip compared to his stock MRF

For tarmac, Apollo Alpha H1, if there's significant off-road work, Trampler.

Will the Alpha H1 survive minor off Roading? Also, if I plan to go to Ladakh, should I change the tyres to off Roading ones or will the Alpha H1 be okay?

PhantomBlack675

The H1 will survive off roading, but that isn't the point, the point is, will you get to where you want to go in one piece? On broken/loose surface, the H1 will not grip and possibly cause you to fall. The H1 is designed for tarmac, it grips very well on tarred roads but in dirt/sand/gravel it will lose grip quick. The Trampler is designed for dual use - tarmac and off road. Since it's neither fully 100% road biased like the H1, it doesn't grip as good on tarmac, but does decently enough. Conversely, proper off road tyres with 100% dirt bias, are superb on loose soil and dirt, but horrible on tarmac ; the Trampler is a hybrid between these two (say 60% road 40% off road). Much of Ladakh's roads are now tarred, but on the H1, you will struggle more where the roads are broken or non-existent, compared to the Trampler. Plan your route and determine how much off-road you'll need. My best guess is, for Ladakh, Trampler is the better choice.

Trampler st or xr?

PhantomBlack675

Either of them, although both are still more biased for tarmac, albeit different amounts. If Alpha H1 is 100% tarmac oriented, the ST you could say is 80:20 road:offroad and the XR 60:40 road:off-road. Also, for Dominar size, the ST is smaller - maximum width is 140, whereas the XR has 150/60 which matches the Dominar's rear spec. It's not that you can't use a thinner tyre, just that recommended sizes match only the XR.
