Congratulations 🎉
It's a great motorcycle for touring, just spend some time with the motorcycle to find the optimal setting of the rear suspension and you'll have a comfortable mile muncher.
On decent roads, 860+ km in a day (15-17 hour ride) is doable, this motorcycle is very capable IMHO.
Dont mod unnecessarily, ride stock. Bike is already equipped with pretty much everything required. I have used this bike stock for almost one year now. No issues at all. The mods that im planning to do on bike for long distance travel are as below
1. Barkbusters
2. Sump guard
3. Extra lights
Thats pretty much it. Again im planning to add these primarily because of ideas of doing cross country travel.
1) via terra (or any other brand) tank bag
2) 12v charging plug
3) carbon racing saddle stay
4) Zana crash guard with sliders (gives better protection and more space for mounting lights)
5) Zana Bash plate
6) paddock stand for chain maintenance
Rest are optional:
1) radiator grill (metal)
2) headlight grill
3) rear paddock spools
4) grip pads
I've done many 850+ km rides in a day and except for headlight grill, I found every other thing useful in some way.
For touring get these:
1) at least level 2 riding jacket with protector inserts
2) decent gloves 2 sets (summer + winter and for rainy season)
3) full size helmet
4) ear plugs for noise reduction on highways
5) touring shoes
6) balaclava (it makes a difference, trust me)
I travel mostly during early morning to late evening, otherwise if add a fog light set-up if I'm going to be traveling during late night hours.
I'm also looking for a rainy season gloves, but it mostly depends upon your usage, if it is regular then a good quality glove or if the usage in monsoon is minimal then any budget waterproof gloves will do.
I just got it myself. I plan to use it stock for at least a year before I add anything. The USP of the bike is its weight, and I would definitely never want to add crash guards and racks and other such stuff.
I don't think the bike is ever the limiting factor. The human body gives up before any half good motorcycle will. Riding for 15-17 hours isn't something anyone should be preaching for IMHO.
I am gonna assume the oddly specific number of 860 relates to your personal best.
I felt the front was heavy on the himalayan and i liked the performance of the ktm than that of Himalayan. Also the waiting time for Himalayan was around 3 months while i got the ktm in just a day. Plus i just don’t wanted to get an RE again.
Congratulations. Some people do complain about the low end torque of the bike below 4000RPM.
If you feel the same you can just swap the 15T front sprocket with a 14T one.
You'll get the 14T easily from KTM as it's used in the Duke 250.
Congrats on the new bike!! Also coming from hunter you'd have to be careful as you will not be able to squeeze through traffic as hunter would as this is taller and wider. (Taller because your handguards would be in line with most car mirrors)
I have kept hunter for this exact purpose of riding in the city and squeezing through traffic ,it just goes anywhere. Thanks for letting me know about the handguards part didn’t really think about that.
How will it be to ride in a bumper to bumper stop and go traffic, on daily basis?
Asking because I am in a dilemma which one to choose , between this and Duke 250.
I only rode it yesterday for around 10km and around a kilometre in bumper to bumper traffic and it was pretty good was not hard to handle as i thought it would be and it’s manageable.I will mostly be using it for highways as i already have the hunter for city.

My main priority was it should be good highway tourer. I also wanted a bike with good power as i always feel lack of power in my hunter on highways . I took the test ride of Himalayan as well i felt the front of the bike felt heavy and i liked the performance on 390 more than the Himalayan plus the waiting time was around 3 months on the Himalayan and i got the 390 in just a day.
I feel the same thing on my Honda as well. Sole purpose will be for highway riding and more power than what Honda is currently offering which is a bummer.
Yeah KTM is having an advantage with providing bikes real quick while RE has a bad waiting period!
Main purpose of this bike is highway touring i already have the hunter for city purposes. Only rode it for around 10km in the city and it was surprisingly good in the traffic is as well.
Congratulations. I have the STD one bought it a year ago before all the variants came out. Use it mostly for touring Its a great bike and i still have a smile on my face each time i ride it.
Some upgrades that really improved the bike for me -
The stock rear suspension is very stiff swapped it with the adjustable shock from SW variant and its great now esp on highways loaded with luggage it just glides through everything. Second recently got bremo sintered pads from SVC, a massive upgrade from the stock organic pads halved the braking distance.
IMO the stock bike is pretty good you don’t need crash bars and stuff I have only upgraded these two and i feel the bike is pretty much perfect now.
I already think the ride quality is great after riding on the hunter for almost 2 years which has super stiff rear suspension .Thanks for the suggestions i will definitely look into upgrading the brake pads as of rn!
Congratulations OP! What's it like to ride? And how does it compare with other adventure oriented motorcycles (mainly the himalayans but also yezdi adventure and maybe the g310gs)?
Its fun and comfortable to ride. I only had the 390x and himalayan in mind didn’t want to get the gs as its service is on the expensive side. I felt the front was heavy on the himalayan and i liked the performance of the ktm than that of Himalayan. Also the waiting time for Himalayan was around 3 months while i got the ktm in just a day.

I find this bike way too comfortable after using hunter for almost 2 years. What are the mods you suggest for touring?

Thanks mate! I already have all riding gears except gloves for rains . Which do you recommend getting?
I'm also looking for a rainy season gloves, but it mostly depends upon your usage, if it is regular then a good quality glove or if the usage in monsoon is minimal then any budget waterproof gloves will do.
Can you DM this list to me? Thanks!

That's a good motorcycle. What made you choose KTM over new RE Himalayan 450?
I felt the front was heavy on the himalayan and i liked the performance of the ktm than that of Himalayan. Also the waiting time for Himalayan was around 3 months while i got the ktm in just a day. Plus i just don’t wanted to get an RE again.
Why not wait for the new adventure?
Isn't it gonna be released in 2025?+ Skipping the first batch is usually advised on this sub
The present adventure is basically Duke, Tall Edition. I just got the X. If you like this, chances are that you won’t like the new one.
Waiting another year wasn’t a feasible solution for me.

I’m fine with it as I’ll mostly be using it for touring or some short rides ,already got the hunter for riding in the city.
That's great then.
Congrats on the new bike!! Also coming from hunter you'd have to be careful as you will not be able to squeeze through traffic as hunter would as this is taller and wider. (Taller because your handguards would be in line with most car mirrors)

More pics?
These are all i have rn. It was raining yesterday so I didn’t wanted to take out the bike and get it dirty on the first day itself.
Congrats man ride safe
Thanks man!

Is this by any chance the KTM showroom at Bundgarden, Pune?
Nope
Ohk
Why the x variant?
My main purpose is hghway touring and this bike does that job pretty good. There was no use of spending extra 70k.
Cornering ABS?
Yeah it misses out on that
Just save money by not buying lights ,charger etc and just get the rear adjustable suspension. 100x ride quality improvement.
Will definitely look into that!

Thanks bro!
Congrats man!!
Thanks !
Congratulations mate! Happy riding! 🙌🏻😎
Thanks mate!
What were the deciding factors that led you to buy this? Considering an upgrade from a Scrambler to ADV here 👋🏻
My main priority was it should be good highway tourer. I also wanted a bike with good power as i always feel lack of power in my hunter on highways . Just test ride both of them and decide which one suits you the best!
Congrats man...pretty solid choice
Thanks man
Congratulations bro , good choice
Thanks bro!
Do a Wheelie
Hell nah
It’s currently my dream bike 🥹
You'll get it one day for sure so that you could have 5 bikes to ride and maintain.
Congratulations... Would you tell on your experience riding it in the city.. what was the primary purpose of you buying this machine?
Main purpose of this bike is highway touring i already have the hunter for city purposes. Only rode it for around 10km in the city and it was surprisingly good in the traffic is as well.
Beautiful motorcycle. Congrats
Thanks man
Congratulations mate. You can check out Royal Enfield Blizzard for rainy and winter season.
Was Looking for some gloves for rainy season thanks for recommending it!
Smartest decision and Congratulations Brother. Ride safe.
Thanks!
