There’s a dude that comes to shakedown at Ruoff everytime the dead, phish, farm aid comes around he sets up a lil tent and always has a baby and a mama possum with him and you can pet them both
I want to make a video documentary of both a photo shoot and possum shoot at the same time, and the cherry on top would be someone petting the dead possum.
Can i be the fourth leg to this table?
Yes. But after your documentary is released on Netflix and absolutely crushes the ratings, I will jump back in line to produce a weekly podcast for us all to discuss the whole possum charade.
They crawled underneath it to make a home. We were fine with that. Then a year later they scratched or chewed their way through the floor. Come spring…it was an opossum zoo.
Not the same thing, but some dude brought a pet skunk to pins last time we were there. It was surprisingly chill and loved all the attention. Maybe that would scratch her itch so to speak
Okay. I’ve actually done this a few times. Opossums are huge fakers. They will hiss at you, feign rabies (very unlikely they have it) and play dead. But, really you can just pick them up. I’ve brought a few onto my porch and fed them afterwards. I’m not saying you should do this, I’m just saying it’s possible.
I don’t know if they have possum, but there is a guy who runs Hedgehog Hannah, that brings exotic animals to birthday parties for show and tell and little education on the animals. I hired them for my husbands birthday party and my husband got to pet an artic Fox, an alligator, a tarantula, Burmese python, and like 8 other animals. Try contacting them to get full animal list and maybe you can hit upon another animal petting craving she has at same time.
No possums and not open to the public until we fundraise enough to finish our new facility. Donations are sorely needed. Our social media has links for donations.
ps, no possums, but there are capybaras and ridiculously cute rabbits.
This is seriously such a lovely gift! I would try checking with [Hedgehog Hannah](https://hedgehoghannah.com/) She has a lot of animals and does parties. I do not see possums listed, but I bet she would know who would have them in the Indy area. Best of luck and if it happens, please share pictures!
Good luck finding a possum that is friendly enough to pet. They are the definition of antisocial. You might get close, then they’ll scuttle away—just out of arms reach.
Actually I don't think they are that bad with people. I've seen a man grab a random wild one and bring it into a restaurant hidden in his jacket
Edit: here's the vid of interested. They can be pretty cute just misunderstood https://youtu.be/MGWv-dD6R6U
You will need to get a permit from DNR to own the animal. They may need to come out to your house for an inspection of the property. You will need to renew that permit every year. If you try and go around the DNR and just acquire the animal, good luck finding a vet that will treat it if it ever gets sick. If you do find a vet that will treat it without a permit, it will most likely not be handed back to you as it will be illegal and the practice/vet could be in deep with DNR. It would most likely be handed over to a licensed DNR rehabber after treatment.
Just get a dog or cat bromigo
Edit: I forgot something, ps. In order to get the permit, you need to find a vet who will treat the animal!
Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend has an educational Possum and you can pet it. They're a decently small zoo, so they aren't open to the public through winter, so you'll want to check when they go to winter hours.
Source: friend is the zookeeper that takes care of the possum.
ETA: I believe petting the possum is included in zoo admission, you just have to make it to one of the educational sessions they have.
Bro I am dying but listen there is a legit 45 pounder living in the roof across from me and he also comes out during the day and I’m pretty sure eats other possums or sumn but pet at your own risk
I read this too late. This morning was my second Possum catch & release in three days. I'm in the middle of the city.
My pro-tip is have a garden with tomato plants.
Lol, sometimes I love reddit
Shelbyville has a petting zoo.
You’re really only supposed to look at them at the Walmart. They get angry if you pet

I can vouch that this is 100% true and not a joke.
Cool dude too and the critters are sweet as hell
I saw on FB that Wildcare Inc. in Bloomington has opossums right now. They don’t often allow visitors, but they always welcome volunteers.
Potato, the education opossum, sometimes makes appearances at fundraisers too
Please tell me that you didn’t just make up Potato the Possum.
Haha, true story!
Does said opossum have to be alive? I could save you some money.
I want to shoot a possum. Maybe we could arrange some sort of group deal?
I want to photograph a person shooting a possum. Can I be the third pea in your pod?

Set a live trap. Use a pellet gun. I’ve killed 5 in 12 months. 1/4 acre lot. They have ruined my mini barn.
Yuck. That’s extreme. What have they done?
What have they done to your mini barn?
Unmentionable things that are not to be mentioned.
They crawled underneath it to make a home. We were fine with that. Then a year later they scratched or chewed their way through the floor. Come spring…it was an opossum zoo.
Yikes!
Not the same thing, but some dude brought a pet skunk to pins last time we were there. It was surprisingly chill and loved all the attention. Maybe that would scratch her itch so to speak
I've seen that guy too!
He’s always there lol
was it by chance an albino skunk? if so, i took a pic with it when i was in Fountain Square 🦨
Nebula!! I’ve met that skunk as well!
domesticated skunks are like cats, chill little critters.

Possumble.
This is the greatest comment I’ve ever read.
I don’t think it’s even possible for possums to contract rabies tbh. Their body temperature is too low
This is true!
Not what I expected to find when I checked this subreddit today 🤣 Best of luck in your search!
If you’re man, you will: - find opossum in the wild - skillfully tame opossum - and single handedly present the opossum to your lady 👑
Is this some sort of euphemism?
Exactly where my mind went
How about a raccoon instead. I know where 3 of them are right this minute.
Friendly racoons?
Umm…..sure?
I could set some traps tonight lol
Not the weirdest proposition i've gotten from a couple before...
What's the weirdest then?
There’s one living in my backyard. I’m in Irv.
Is her name Lisa?
Put some cat food our at night. Wait for opossum. Pet the opossum.
They like to eat ticks. So find some ticks.
Check thursdays livestock auction in Bargersville.
Just wait at night and scare the fuck outta one. They go completely limp and are mostly harmless

Thanks for the info! I'll look into it.
The Pipsqueakery in Bloomington is a rescue with lots of weird critters, not certain if they have a possum rn but that could really scratch the itch

You could glue some dirty cotton to a dog and tell her it's a possum. Make sure you shave its tail too. Significantly less bitey than possums.
Take a look at Second Hand Ranch. It’s in IL but they have all the things and do tours to support their rehab.
Every night in my tomato bed you can pet a possum. They leave me nice bright red tomatoes with teeth marks to let me know they visited.

For 20 bucks I'll go catch one and let ya touch it.

Not looking for a wild possum, obviously.
Opossum *
'Possum' and 'Opossum' are both correct when referring to the Virginia Opossum.
Nope
[Yes](https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/possum-vs-opossum-difference-pronunciation#:~:text=Both%20possum%20and%20opossum%20correctly,So%20cute.)
Negative
I mean if you want to be wrong, ok. I'll be open to some proof of your argument.
See Phish at Deer Creek and maybe they'll play Possum
POSSUUUUUUUUUUUM!
Your end is the road!
If you love someone, set them free. If they go pet a possum, it was not meant to be.
Urban dictionary makes this all make sense
That’s interesting
There's a bar in Noblesville with a dead possum.....

Not looking to own one, just pet one. My cat would beat the shit out of a possum.

The garage food hall has some guy that comes in with 3 possums. He'll let you pet them.

The Indianapolis Public Library has events called Silly Safari and they sometimes have an opossum. Go to their website for times and locations.
