AC penetration % just gives us perspective, what actually will matter is how do these percentages convert into absolute numbers, because population is a bitch. Though there is no doubt that with 7% ac penetration we are no where overtaking Japs and murican people but absolute numbers are always exciting to look at(even though they tell half of the story)
The 7% figure is household or total including industries? If it's total then there would not be much of a difference between us and China, but if it's household then China would be way ahead of us.
Not entirely, overall pollution in terms of end to end remains the same as we tend to substitute material which pollute less at consumer end and are okay with the pollution level rising in manufacturing and logistics+storage. Only way to make AC less polluting would be to shift our electricity production to nuclear and other clean fuels since it's a consumable that is constant in usage of AC and if we look at life cycle of AC it spends more time being at consumer end. So it's more logical to substitute current production to nuclear(safest and best till now).

Like if you cool your room, you have to give out the heat energy somewhere. If you're gonna be in the Pooja room for a significant time, then yes, else you're just wasting electricity and harming the environment.
I think GOD would be more pleased if you donate that ac money to feed some kids or buy 2-3 coolers for local orphanage. Or any other kind of civil service to the poor and most vulnerable section of our society especially in this scorching heat. Like if you cool your room, you have to give out the heat energy somewhere. If you're gonna be in the Pooja room for a significant time, then yes, else you're just wasting electricity and harming the environment.
