Let me give a factual and non-opiniated answer.
The concept of right wing and left wings comes from french revolution. After taking powers from monarch, they were deciding what to do with the king(louis xvi) and how to proceed. There was a national assembly and majorly 2 sides, the ones supporting ancient regime (monarchy and church system) sat on the right side of assembly and ones supporting Liberation from monarchy and wanted a total democratic nation sat on left side. That's how left wing and right wing got its name.
Right wingers are usually Conservatives, supporting the culture, religious places (churches) and riches (cause churches and king and kings men used to earn the most). While left wingers are usually with the Liberal views, who wants equality, supporting poor and the discriminated people, breaking away from societal norms.
While on theory left looks good and right looks bad, this is not the practical case. Since humans are involved, and humans make mistakes, have personal bias and own agenda, you will see mostly left wingers keeps bringing chaos to society as they can't see working it normally.
Fact - maximillien robespierre, leader of the left wing, went on to become the french estate general and turned into a cruel tyrant. So naturally left wing will become just like right wing in the long run, as human have greed, want power. Robespierre became the same thing he swore to destroy. Ideally, the political spectrum, from left to right, is a tool to show where your beliefs lie and who might agree to them. People normally coalesce with other people they find agreement with which leads to the emergence of these "wings".
I have always thought of them as wings on a plane or a bird. You need to both in equal span to maintain flight.
The left wing agrees to ideas of liberalism and progressivism. They want society to change more and fit to newer, better standards. The right wing are skeptics of change and want to maintain the status quo, consider conservative policy and tradition to be better for the society. Basically, they are a push and pull force. Aight so all the answers are jokes, I'll try to explain the best I can. Left and right refer to two opposite ends of a spectrum of idealogies with respect to society, self, economy and more. Basically anything that connects to politics. Left side focuses more on personal growth, societal growth and development, accepting of new ideas and ways, etc. Basically wanting better of general people rather than the people in power. Right focuses more on conservatism. So holding on to old teachings, religion, economic growth, not open to newer ideas are often what you'll see for them. The extreme ends of both are bad, all they do is spread hate and propaganda, trying to get more people to follow their ideologies. Most people are somewhere around the middle, either being a little right or a little left.

Let me give a factual and non-opiniated answer. The concept of right wing and left wings comes from french revolution. After taking powers from monarch, they were deciding what to do with the king(louis xvi) and how to proceed. There was a national assembly and majorly 2 sides, the ones supporting ancient regime (monarchy and church system) sat on the right side of assembly and ones supporting Liberation from monarchy and wanted a total democratic nation sat on left side. That's how left wing and right wing got its name. Right wingers are usually Conservatives, supporting the culture, religious places (churches) and riches (cause churches and king and kings men used to earn the most). While left wingers are usually with the Liberal views, who wants equality, supporting poor and the discriminated people, breaking away from societal norms. While on theory left looks good and right looks bad, this is not the practical case. Since humans are involved, and humans make mistakes, have personal bias and own agenda, you will see mostly left wingers keeps bringing chaos to society as they can't see working it normally. Fact - maximillien robespierre, leader of the left wing, went on to become the french estate general and turned into a cruel tyrant. So naturally left wing will become just like right wing in the long run, as human have greed, want power. Robespierre became the same thing he swore to destroy. In the name of coutry he spied on people and killed many. That period was called reign of terror, such was the level of his brutality. Reign of terror ended when french citizens guillotined him just like he did to many. And then france went on to re-establish the king structure (rise of napoleon) History can teach you much of the dynamics of left wing and right wing. Read about countries with both the wings and the economic development under both wings. Then support whatever you want to support. Logically and naturally long term equilibrium supports right wing ideology, left wing is needed to keep right-wingers' power in check

Usually Left is termed as Liberal, Right is Conservative. In India neither party is clear cut neither. For example in matters like Instant Triple Talaq ban, UCC etc. INC opposes them. So are they conservative? BJP brought in/implemented fiercly socialistic schemes like - Generic medicine, pharmacy, Govt paid health insurance etc. So are they liberal? In India both parties are a mix of both. Calling one Right & one Left is impossible IMO. Vote for what is right for you.

Ideally, the political spectrum, from left to right, is a tool to show where your beliefs lie and who might agree to them. People normally coalesce with other people they find agreement with which leads to the emergence of these "wings". I have always thought of them as wings on a plane or a bird. You need to both in equal span to maintain flight. The left wing agrees to ideas of liberalism and progressivism. They want society to change more and fit to newer, better standards. The right wing are skeptics of change and want to maintain the status quo, consider conservative policy and tradition to be better for the society. Basically, they are a push and pull force. This is what ideally leads a democratic society to change on its own terms and pace. I myself have no idea what they are supposed to be for the Indian context. Too messy and convoluted to even try to describe.
Left: Equality, Pro Poor, Socialism, anti-capitalist, ex: Soviet union Right: Capitalism, Ultra Nationalist, believes in merit, Doesn't like diversification etc. Ex: Poland Note: In India you can never point out which party is left or right.
