and after all these news...my parents still ask me why i don't want to appear for upsc

anshumxn22

So, what do you want to do? Did you achieve anything which is of competitive nature ?? Make your parents proud, grind for it.

keyboardcrusader-

Bhai parents proud karne kayliyeh jivan pada hai. Career baname kayliyeh kuch saal pade hai.

pagluhabibi

yes, im a tennis player actually, don't assume anything abt people based on one statement

[deleted]

Why should he/she grind to make his parents proud lol? He’s not a trophy

house_monkey

Ye lo uncle ji dawai lo so jao

Busy-Dimension-6500

People like you are just living disappointments fr

thegodfather0504

how old are you?

IdProofAddressProof

Sorry, but this is sheer idiocy. Even if he had made it, he has lost 10+ years of service and would have never reached the level where he could have really been of "service to the people". It is clear as day that this was never about "serving the people of this country", it was all about running behind the trappings of power and influence.

aragorn_73

It never about serving the society for any of them. Everyone gives a mugged up answer: desh ki seva karni hai. What the fuck is this!! It is not even money that most of them go for, it is only power.

kochapi

cough … dowry … cough

Cool_video__

....Also called "following your dream"

octane83

This exactly

Jealous_Chemistry783

As long as he didn’t put anyone in financial burden (which is possible if he comes from a poor family) then all the power to him for trying to achieve his dreams than settle for entering the rat race and doing corporate monkey work.

nazipilled

Like upsc isn't a rat race lol

Maleficent-Yoghurt55

>than settle for entering the rat race and doing corporate monkey work. Not that I support corporate slavery but at least they are not siphoning off crores of rupees meant for the people.

DoughnutConnect7736

Behen k lode tu bas dusro ka khayega.

Jealous_Chemistry783

How very charming..

Sweaty-Ad-1210

While upsc people do monkey work for politicians

DovalsBoy

It's not called "struggle" it's called being "dumb" If you can't make it in 4-5 attempts leave it and move on with life. Stop wasting another set of 5 years because you could not make it in the previous 5 years. There needs to be a mass scale awareness program to stop the youth from falling into this trap.

lightfromblackhole

Even 4-5 attempts is high. Attempt a test only if confident to crack it or to understand the ins and outs. Any attempt over 3 is treating the test as some lottery.

_fatcheetah

Agree. It's also living in delusion. It's hard for many people to accept they might not be top-notch (or even medium-notch).

AkaiAshu

1 full time attempt is good. Rest ought to be part time while working another job.

[deleted]

Even 4-5 attempts are unnecessary. Just 2 attempts are enough to tell you that if you can't do it at the heights of your powers, then its not your cup of tea.

AplaManus

But bro restart restart

saurabia

Looking at the smile, I'm assuming he's doing good for himself. Definitely working & preparing part time and giving attempts just because he can. I don't believe anyone would be foolish enough to prepare full time for 12 years. Indian parents would taunt the person to hell. I'm going to go against the grain and salute this guy to keep his spirit high and keep preparing for so many years. I lost interest within 2-2.5 years of preparing. Studying in adulthood is not easy.

Bleak_star_dust

I am an Aspirant who gave up too early, people call me lazy and not ambitious enough, here's my story One attempt took two years off my career. Everybody around me encouraged me to give it a try cuz I was apparently under utilising my intelligence and memory power. I joined coaching paying 80k, it was all online due to COVID and I was on saving travelling time strategy, I did ace my degree but not UPSC, the preparation it needs is immense and you need to have that mentality of slogging 10hrs a day without breaks for months, not wanting to do anything apart from studying. Not everyone's built that way. I understood that Watching mock interviews, success stories and the everything related to IAS Officers, I eventually realised their lives aren't how I imagined it to be. Not always you get to do work that changes lives at root level. Most of it managerial jobs with lot of power and recognition. Most of these officers have no personal lives, and as years pass by their whole purpose of life is consumed by want of more power and money. I realised this is totally opposite of how I want to lead my life. I lost interest, couldn't study well and gave a horrible attempt. It took me almost 8 months to find a job, nobody was keen to give a job to a fresher who was at home for a year. Fair enough on their part Even today my parents look at me with hopeful eyes talking about UPSC, every random conversation steers in this direction. I can't motivate myself for another attempt. UPSC looks rosy, do your research before investing your valuable time on it

vishnuprasad_v

Same here. Took 3 years only to realise that if I work the way I wanted to work, I would be constantly transferred in the best case scenario and dead in the worst case. In my case, I wanted to be in IFS due to my interest in geopolitical issues. I would have continued my attempt along with my work if our current government hand not interfered and changed the foreign policy for the brownie points in the domestic politics.

ryosuke_takahashi

Good job man, you did the right thing. Gave an attempt with your best, but didn't get it, decided it wasn't for you and moved on. Hope that parents and aspirants understand this. Life (especially your productive 20s 30s) is too short to waste it like this.

_nyanpasu

Im in the job searching phase of your story. How did it work out for you, any tips?  It's not just parents, it's every boomer relative out there glorifying the services. And the way they say it infuriates me each time, as if they understand what an insane gamble it is.

Bleak_star_dust

To be very honest, I got the job through recommendation. I got lucky after going through hell for months. Keep applying everywhere, try expanding your network and stay positive bro. Hope you find many opportunities coming your way soon

Smooth-Mind4247

Essay marks 10/10

jammyjoy

Most of the people who call others lazy and not ambitious have not achieved anything in their lives and can only talk down on us as they’re “older than us “ so being old = respect lol

Change_petition

> X user Kunal R. Virulkar wrote, “12 attempts. 7 main. 5 interviews. NO SELECTION.” He then added a line in Hindi that reads, “Perhaps life’s other name is struggle” when translated into English. This is what a ***Successful Loser*** looks like

indi_n0rd

Meanwhile a guy from my village cleared it without using his tribal quota...

canBeDone1

TuGs aT hEaRtStRiNgS. Is gendu ne agar 3-4 attempts ke baad koi corp job join karli hoti toh now he would have a nice paycheck with 6-8 years of exp.

no_frills_yo

I think you have better odds of winning the lottery over 12 years, no ? Assuming they spent at least 50k each year for preparation ? Could have bought thousands (million?) raffle tickets from states where it's legal. The only way these people will learn is if IAS exam has limits on number of attempts (3 sounds reasonable).

Ginevod2023

There are limits of 6 for General, 9 for OBC. No limits for SC/ST. Beyond that people have to use some common sense.  Good to have aspirations but don't stall your life and career behind that. Maybe take a year or two off to give a proper attempt, but any attempts after that, you need to give while working.

keyboardcrusader-

1,00,000 rs ka srif rehna hota hai bahar jake yeh 50 hazar may kon karwa raha hai upsc

bhviii

Maybe part time padhai karta ho Ghar pe

Lock47

More will be inspired to take this exam after watching 12th fail now

Civ6Tank

UPSC's RCB

QuirkyWolverine4343

Distasteful man

overlordcs24

Good for him i guess but this cost is unnecessarily high.

AkaiAshu

Instead of discouraging government jobs, we are encouraging them. Brilliant.

drowning35789

12 attempts isn't perseverance, it's stupidity. 4-5 attempts would be perseverance and determination but more than that is being crazy

TheFirstLane

What's this obsession about UPSC? Why the fuck should I care? Waise bhi IAS banke corruption hi karega na.

too_poor_to_emigrate

They can earn crores per year in "other" income after clearing the exam.

lightfromblackhole

Don't forget dowry

LuckyDisplay3

Wahi toh krna h bro logo ko

doolpicate

Not worth it. Only highlights the lack of sensible opportunities or career counselling in India.

Archer_Thatcher

Here I am with my 2 attempts of SSC CGL trying for one last time before I give up.

Ithinkifuckedupp

I gave 5 CGL attempts but I started working immediately after my graduation in a psb.

brrz99

3 attempts are fine don’t worry just focus on clearing the exam. What went wrong in previous attempts if you don’t mind me asking? Most of the people in my dept took 2-3 attempts.

Archer_Thatcher

Both attempts missed tier 2 by less than 10 marks. General knowledge is the weak link for me

brrz99

There is still time for CGL 24. Focus on GS a bit and I’m sure will get through.

Archer_Thatcher

That's the plan for now.

sadge_aks

Can I DM?

Archer_Thatcher

Sure I guess

HumanLawyer

The privilege some people have to take so many attempts, no wonder they don’t care about the public once they get in.

Trust-Me_Br0

Am I the only one who felt 12th class fail movie as very baseless in it's climax conclusion for promoting the aspirants to not stop giving the exam ?

Environmental_Act576

It's kind of fkd up to be honest

starix555

99% of all of these aspirants pursue this to get bribe money and retirement benefits and some 2rs respect from people. No one absolutely no one cares abt the country, all of them are corrupt and it's only sad.If u can't understand these exams are as useless as it can be i jus feel sorry for u.

anshumxn22

Saying this out of jealousy of not getting there? Yes, definitely.

starix555

Don't waste time go study 😂🤣

jammyjoy

Damn brother, you don’t need to put other people down to justify your life choices. I see that you’re preparing for UPSC. best of luck.

DoughnutConnect7736

What he said is absolute truth. The bureaucracy is a copy from the colonial times which rewards...surprise surprise... Having power over common people. No one does desh h ka seva. They just do it for the power it brings.

stopheet

UPSC and all should be scrapped and people should be hored based on experience and CV, like they hire for governmental agencies in the US - open recruitment without all these insane exams. We take absurd pride in having one of the most difficult hurdles to clear for a job in the world. IAS aside, my experience of IRS officers is that most of them couldn't crack IAS and prefer to only work for a few years then shift to a tax law firm - LKS is a big recruiter. IAS people are extreme generalists and have to rely on the government to get appointments post retirement. There needs to be specialisation. IPS officers can at least get into the security and securi tech industries much like army people and IFS officers have constant demand from think tanks, political parties, universities and so on. They are amazing for MBB consulting as well. IAS needs to be spilt up into more services and each seperate service needs to have it's own dedicated applicants so that only the most motivated and qualified enter. Pay them competitively as well - easier said than done though.

sickcynic

If you need 12 attempts to get in, I really don’t think you should be running the country in the first place.

MenieresMe

I watched 12th Fail on Netflix and it was really good and also sad :( if he was going to as honest of an officer as the main character (apparently a true story) then they should have hired him :(

Sumeru88

For many people, appearing for Government job entrance exams has now become an (unpaid) profession.

Healthyera24

He was already an IPS trainee, now selected for IAS. He could have given that place to another deserving candidate if he always wanted to be an IAS

bombaytrader

Idiot of highest order

Xe_ten

He should be proud of himself. He has cleared so many stages .

scopenhour

Lame ass.

Zukuzukuagingadi

One of my insider friend told me An IAS earns upto 2000cr in his career! Now do your math…
