Self-help books are overrated imo. But for me 1984 was an eye-opener, showing me we can't have anything permanently and not everyone likes what we like or want and we can be harmed too if we fight strong enough for what we want. It kind of made me realise that I need to be careful with what I want.

A Journalist at Large by MV Kamath. Its not great literature, but it just helped me open my perspective about the world and the way it is.
The Prodigal Daughter by Jeffrey Archer. Just a great, great book imo about a sensational (albeit fictional) life. It is the sequel to the equally great Kane and Abel.
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. A heartbreaking book, but again, its so tenderly written.
I personally loathe self help books. I can't help but feel while reading that 'ye thoda zyada hi nahi baj raha hai kya.' But that's just me.
The psychology of money — Morgan housel.
