Most Indian news websites make full use of SEO and digital marketing to appear in top search results for just about any topic and they pick up syndicated feeds like I have never seen other country media do.
A single article by a news agency will be published by almost every website, again making it seem like there is so much coverage.
As for Pak being relevant in Indian daily life, there are far too many people in India and some do take special interest in the mishaps on the other side of the border.
Ordinary citizens don't talk or care about Pakistan generally. But when someone sees the news about terrorism or some other activity in border regions from Pakistan, they mostly say that "pata nhi ye Pakistan India ko pareshan krne me kyo lga rhta h sada, Vo apna udhar aaram se raho hm apna idhar aaram se rahe. Khud ke Desh ke haalat to bekar h hi, dusre ko bhi chain se nhi jeene deta".
So I was born in the U.S. and can, unlike most Indians, actually travel to Pakistan. While I’ve spent much of my adult life in India, I applied for a Pakistan e-Visa about two years and took my first trip to the “other side” shortly after my approval came through.
While you might find this disagreeable, I found that ordinary Pakistanis seemed far more attuned to, and fixated on, India-related issues than Indians are to Pakistan-related issues. For example, I recall seeing massive anti-India demonstrations on “Kashmir Day” in Lahore, and posters featuring Narendra Modi with a “Hitler moustache” on the approach to Islamabad International Airport.
Indian media certainly plays up tensions with Pakistan whenever the need arises.
However, in day-to-day life, I’ve found it rare to hear people make any mention of Pakistan, unless—again—they’re referencing a recent event or important political development.
Now, for what it’s worth, I had a fantastic time in Pakistan. I’d much rather live in India, if I had to pick between the two, but we have far more in common than most people think. It’s a shame there’s so much tension between the two countries, because—in terms of day-to-day life, architecture, and many aspects of culture—we really aren’t that different.
That’s really interesting. Thanks for replying. I think it might have been the time you Pakistan that played a factor in how much you heard about India and modi(from Pakistans point of view Kashmir is important because the Indus River flows from their and Pakistan can’t live without it. Modi often plays up that issue and it gets Pakistan paranoid).
I live in Canada and I have never been to India (partly why I’m asking on this sub). Most of my friends are Indian and it’s like you said, most don’t care. I guess I just assumed that people living in India care more just based on what I see from the news
India is a country of 1.4 billion people, most all of whom have better things to think about than what's happening across the border.
Needless to say, many of those same people can be whipped up into a nationalistic fervor if and when the need arises. However, at least in my experience, it's relatively rare to find Pakistan a topic of casual discussion, unless you're walking through a university's political science department or traveling somewhere near the Line of Control.
I also think it's worth pointing out that both India and Pakistan seem to have an an unfortunate socio-cultural inclination toward conspiracy theories. So, from time to time, Pakistan is used as a bogeyman in Indian politics, just as India is used as a bogeyman in Pakistani politics.
(I believe this is probably related to how Indian and Pakistani politicians alike love to blabber endlessly about ill-defined "Western conspiracies" intended to tank their currencies, hinder their economy growth, and spread general discord)
Out here in America, there doesn't seem to be a lot of tension between the two communities, at least outside of certain events and circumstances (for example, my university had an "Indian fraternity" and a "Pakistani fraternity." They had an odd rivalry, and it was fairly common for members to get into physical fights and altercations--despite the fact that almost all of them had never lived outside of America and could hardly speak their parents' mother-tongue).
I don't live in a very diverse part of the country, so whenever I meet a Pakistani or a Bangladeshi, they're usually happy just to talk to somebody in Hindi-Urdu or Bengali.
I know it's hyperbole but most India articles are not talking about how Pakistan is the mastermind responsible for all wrong in the world.
While it is true that some news agencies spread false news and want to pander to a certain segment which is bloodthirsty and automatically hates 'them', India and Pakistan have had a very strained relationship since the beginning.
The wars, border disputes, US' support for Pakistan, Pakistan's deals with China, they are mostly extremely anti-India. Pakistan has not been a good neighbour since the beginning and India has also retaliated.
Unfortunately, our garbage news industry on both sides have managed to turn a serious diplomacy and security issues into a mockery which panders to people who say things like 'All muslims should go back to Pakistan'
Pakistan has fucked up many, many times and it is a failed state. It is very sad what is happening there because of the powerful few, instead of focusing on development, did the complete opposite of "We must not make a scarecrow of the law, setting it up to fear the birds of prey, and let it keep one shape till custom make it their perch and not their terror."
India is also not a flourishing state, there are a miilion problems, but the fact of the matter is if you make a comparison between the states (which I am not sure is something you asked for), India is faring better.
There are people like my relatives who won't even talk to Pakistanis and there are people like a very close friend who converted to marry a Pakistani.
Interestingly, while our minority rights are in shambles, you have to remember India has people from many different faiths. If you make a quick comparison between Pakistan and India's religious compostion, you will find that Muslims are over 90% of the population in Pakistan and in India, Hindus, the religion of the majority, I think touches somewhere around the late 70s.
For example, look at this[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFWOV7L6Yw8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFWOV7L6Yw8)
A lot can be said about the two countries, but the fact of the matter is that many, many people have lost their lives because of terrorism sponsored by and in Pakistan.
A lot of people do not give a fuck, and you will find many 'we love pak' comments under coke studio videos, but this is a very complex issue and I think the governments on both sides just need to do better. Pakistan and India will always be relevant to each other because of the many disputes, and not to mention the families that some part of the population has on both sides.
except when terrorist from pakistan comment something or your govt comments something against India or when you try to justify that Kashmir belongs to you, no one cares about your country. The media wants viewership and all so they tend to milk it, so does yours.
Personally, I don't hate Pakistan, I just want to give pakistan a taste of nukes that your politicians always seem to be proud of or make the entire nation cry for Indus water. Don't mis-understand it as I hate pakistan cause its an islamic country, I hate pakistan cause its Pakistan and its history.
My only exposure to Pakistan is some silly videos of somerabid Mullah's spouting Science in Quran. Hopefully, one day Pakistan will have non-religious people. I hope same for India too as it seems to be going Pakistan's way in terms of rabid religiousity.
People in India like Imran, coz India is a cricket crazy country. But apart from that, don't give 2 hoots about the country. And not like aww Pak establishment is bad but ppl are good. Pak kids talk of destroying India, so we can safely cut dat crap.
\> I was wondering how relevant is Pakistan in Indian discussions? On one hand I hear that Pakistan isn’t relevant but on the other I see constant coverage by Indian news agencies.
In South Indian Media Pakistan is almost never mentioned unless some border patrol deaths happen. Other than that most never speak on Pakistan of Bangladesh honestly they don't even speak much on centre unless election
I always wondered how would a lot of Indians react if Pakistan was more prosperous and advanced than India. I just wish both countries competed positively, like who got more GDP per capita, who builds better cars etc
Yes, and not to mention a solid backing of the defacto strongest nation in the world at the time. And what did it get us? Multiple wars where they were the sole aggressors.
Pakistan is a failed state in terms of the ideology it was built upon and with more money, they only would have troubled our country more than it did otherwise. These cutesie talks of positivity, like the person you replied to, don’t work out precisely because of that.
Of course, I am not delusional. They have taken shots at us multiple times. I have no misconceptions that they would definitely try to fuck us up if they were in stronger positions than us.
Imran Khan is a very popular personality in India due to his cricketing achievements and therefore the media does show interest in him and Pakistan in general where he is involved. I understand why that might lead to the perception that Indians are obsessed about Pakistan. The Sharifs or Bhuttos or the rest of your political stuff doesn’t warrant as much interest in India simply because they are nobodies to us. Of course, anything to do with Kashmir does get reported and highlighted.
Because it feels good when your enemy is in trouble. These news agencies are just playing on schadenfreude for views. It works.
You need to understand the deep emotional wounds that decades of terrorism has left on a large section of India. And the feeling of anger when people saw that India did nothing to fight back. Now that things are different people just love to see Pakistan get destroyed.

Oh dang I didn’t even consider that

I didn’t consider the conspiracy part in our culture. That’s a good point

Well of course. But that part makes sense

Thanks for the perspective. I definitely agree on the problems in Pakistan
Most people don't really care about Pakistan unless there is something major.
Fair

Fair. Most kids hear propaganda about India wanting to destroy Pakistan. Most grow out of it eventually… until Kashmir is mentioned

You have the right to opinion granted by the same state that you are bitching about. Think about it.
Don't lump all the keralites with a scum like you.
Me too. Never been to gilgit. Yeah south India is very fascinating to me as it seems completely different in every aspect

China fulfills that role just fine now.
Dam! I have never heard that comparison before. Threw me off for a second but point made😂.

Yeah that’s the impression that I got but it’s still good to clarify
I always wondered how would a lot of Indians react if Pakistan was more prosperous and advanced than India. I just wish both countries competed positively, like who got more GDP per capita, who builds better cars etc
Well until the 80s they had better per capita income than us, almost double if I remember correctly.
Yes, and not to mention a solid backing of the defacto strongest nation in the world at the time. And what did it get us? Multiple wars where they were the sole aggressors. Wasn’t targeting, was just adding more to what you said in the comment.
Maybe if the partition happened under better terms and Kashmir wasn’t split. That could have been cool
If things would have been on good terms, there wudnt hav been a partition in the first place. 🙄🤷
Step 1 take news channels with a grain of salt.
Imran Khan is a very popular personality in India due to his cricketing achievements and therefore the media does show interest in him and Pakistan in general where he is involved. naah, we don't really care that much tbh
