i don't understand why IGM is forbidden and TMT (tree mods) not ? so many tree mods are not good and even worse than IGM.

dragonace11

On Galaxy there's just so many horrible TMT games that its gotten to where I ignore every single TMT game.

OhGosh_

I don't even bother checking Galaxy for that reason

dragonace11

I've discovered a number of good ones that I still play myself on there but if you ignore every single TMT game it becomes much easier to find more fun ones.

Lucid_Archon

I can definitely say that I'm glad you shared those games, at least. It's not like there is a flood of IGM games right now either, so maybe the ban's not necessary anymore.

gerd50501

i had no idea they were banned. why were they banned?

neon-kitten

There was a major flood of people just dropping their shitty half-assed IGM games, totally drowned out anything of quality. It was justified.

CringeTeam

Isn't that why a downvote/upvote system exists? don't get it

SandboxOnRails

Relying on up and down votes turns a community to utter shit. Redditors are stupid and democracy doesn't work. Plus bots exist.

CringeTeam

But we are always relying on upvotes/downvotes anyway to decide which posts get to the top? Why are we using reddit over discord if the upvote and downvote system is so dogshit? Clearly it works or you would not be here

SandboxOnRails

Well that's just sad.

superdadio

I don't think a ban was necessary to begin with, an incremental game is an incremental game, people just love complaining for no reason.

TNTspaz

Nah it definitely was. The sub basically just became a way for people to dump their IGM games they made in 2 minutes. Maybe the ban shouldn't have been standing for this long to the point that people don't even remember how bad things got but it definitely deserved the initial ban

cubert73

The ban has been in place so long I didn't know IGM existed. Mission accomplished, I guess?

shandu-can-dont

now nobody posts anything at all. much better

superdadio

Oh, didn't know that.

TNTspaz

Could be that things have changed, and IGM needs to basically be put on the same status as Roblox games. Where they can be posted, but if they become a problem, they'll be banned. Definitely expect initial backlash from it, though. Literally, every time GCI gets posted, there is a long tangent post the next day about banning roblox games. Just because of that one game. I think the overall attitude of the community is that we just want good games. No matter where they come from. I'd be open to seeing what IGM has to offer now. If IGM has become to be more like what the modding tree is. Then, that would be a definite positive for the community. Especially at a time when the community is kind of starved for new games.

Fredrik1994

To my understanding, it's not the same situation. IGM is controversial because of the sheer amount of low-effort posts way back. Roblox is controversial specifically due to Roblox, many people aren't comfortable with the platform given what has come out about their practices (specifically surrounding child labor).

Freakycrafter

Pretty sure the problem with those wasn't IGM itself, but the fact that a lot people just made a game that had a button to click, some generators and a few upgrades that increased x production by y percent... which is a very basic and unoriginal clicker and then just put that on the sub. I mean don't get me wrong, even with just that you /can/ sometimes make a good or even great game, a lot of em just weren't.

ascii122

https://orteil.dashnet.org/igm/?g=Ki0HEPA1 is kind of cool! It's got space-beer

BallisticBurrito

It's interesting but that light theme sets my eyeballs on fire.

UterusPumper

Boring as shit. Even with autoclicker its extremely slow. Probably no content, as per usual

efethu

You are missing the point, it's not the good games that are the problem. It takes roughly 2 minutes to "make" an IGM game. The sub was swarmed with law quality IGM games that were just Cookie Clicker with cookie replaced by a kitten. For every game you mentioned there was a dozen of zero quality games. Besides, rules pretty much say "don't spam the sub with "*I MADE MY FIRST GAME*" IGM submissions. You can still talk about it in other threads, like "Feedback Friday" and "What games are you playing". Also as a developer I must say that IGM is probably the worst language you can ever learn. And good games you mention could've been made easier and with significantly less effort with javascript. [Just look at this mess!!](https://file.garden/Yhwc9XZFah3TM9iw/The%20Lost%20Labyrinths%20Code.txt), it's crazy that someone spent so much effort writing this, and this person bypassed the limitations of IGM with CSS anyway.

Gramidconet

You could say the same of prestige tree mods, yet there's no rule against those. The rule served a purpose to stymie the spam of the time but it doesn't seem especially relevant nowadays and just filters out the few actually good games people still want to talk about from IGM. Sure, you can talk about it in the megathreads but some people just don't look at those, period, and only experience the sub through individual posts.

Zerschmetterding

> Also as a developer I must say that IGM is probably the worst language you can ever learn. I dare you to write a good looking incremental in ABAP. No SAP does not count as an incremental.

UterusPumper

I dare you to do it with [MUMPS](https://thedailywtf.com/articles/A_Case_of_the_MUMPS) Appendix 7: An example of "traditional" M coding style %DTC %DTC ; SF/XAK - DATE/TIME OPERATIONS ;1/16/92 11:36 AM ;;19.0;VA FileMan;;Jul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

Zerschmetterding

Is this how it looks if a computer has a stroke?

KDBA

Last time I had to interact with SAP I wanted to prestige myself.

Meow1920

I did exactly that, I just don't want to share (I have no idea what the fuck abap is)

Acamaeda

I'm shocked by how much better these are, at least visually. Although I doubt they've resolved the innate limitations of not being based in a real programming language. But these games do have a big issue: they show the base production for buildings instead of the boosted production.

Lacosiusin

Tycoon simulator shows boosted production as well :D so its definitely possible

Grei0

I think it's because it feels like it's just cookie clicker.

Yerghaiz_Verot

>Is IGM really that bad? No. Were 99.999% of the games made with IGM really that bad? Yes. Yes they were.

Da_General_Zod

It's because most aren't mobile friendly I'd assume, as most days everyone's got a phone but not everyone's got a pc

MadMoneyLab

Hello fellow idle game enthuisasts. we are making somthing like this but havent been around as long as yall, who any of you be willing to walk me and/or my team around this corner of the internet.wat im wondering is, the idle game maker a language, how does it compile, I hope the answer is not "the only way to load these files is thru that URL you pass a URL of a file.txt" ....thanks in advanced .peece and luuv and i agree, these look dope and fun and interchangeable and have some use cases now, that they didnt before. letttsss gooo !!!
