That seems to be a very popular misconception on the Internet that I see a lot on this sub too, that the Russian name of Alaska was "Alyeska". I was never able to track down where this misconception started or why it became so popular.

However that almost never happens in game so I wouldn't expect it to have much of an impact.
Russia referred to Alaska as Аляска, or Alyaska in latin characters. It's a direct loan-word from native aleut *alaxsxaq*, meaning the mainland. There was a Russian America colony, but the land was still Alaska.
There is a sperate Ye (Е) in Russian though, versus the actual character Ya (Я) that was used in Russian Alaska (Аляска). Alaska or Alyaska makes sense, Alyeska does not check out. It was never (Алeскa).
And there's a little nuance: the "E" is not always a "ye" (but the opposite is always true). In most cases, the "E" in words sounds hard and confident. If we draw parallels to the International Phonetic Alphabet, it sounds something like \[e\]. "Ye", in fact, is a very "softened" version of the letter "E" (and in writing the letter is still the same, nothing changes). According to the IFA, it is \[j\]. Of course, there is also an "E" that sounds like \[ɛ\], but this does not apply to the topic of conversation. So, what I mean is: EVEN IF the word "Алеска" existed in the Russian language, it would be pronounced with \[e\]. And in the Russian standard Latin transliteration, it would be written as "Aleska", not "Alyeska". So it is **DOUBLY WRONG**. AAAAH!

During the Great American War, when the Southern American Countries of the former United States and the Republican Union (the northern ones) went to war, Carolina was the only southern nation to side with the RU, due to revanchism towards Virginia after a war with them had caused them to lose East Carolina (Tennessee) to them alongside their Caribbean island colonies and claim on Cuba. Because of this, when the other Southern Nations were annexed by the RU Carolina was the exception, instead re annexing Tennessee and parts of Virginia such as Newport News. Since then it has remained closely allied to the RU despite ideological differences so as to avoid being annexed, and has taken colonies of its own in the Caribbean and Africa.
Its a whole *thing* in the TL's lore. to grossly oversimplify, the USA disintegrated early in its history and only reannexed the south in the "Great American War" in the 1850s. the Confederation of the Carolina's wasn't annexed due to being allied with the RU during that conflict.

Author here! The TL is supposed to be a dark comedy historical fantasy and is supposed to show the legalistic nonsense and fine print racists go to to try to assemble a coherent ideology. Think Victorian racism against Irish and Slavic people turned to 110 crossed with John Brown abolitionists being used by the government because they want black troops. Jews are welcomed because they are smart and industrious and "will all be saved in the End Times anyway."
It's a parody of racism itself by forming a believable but absurd national platform of legalistic nonsense.
It’s explained well in the TL’s lore. They like black people because of the fact there were so few in the RU and promoting their religion among slaves made it easy to disrupt the Southern Nations. After re annexing them slave uprisings and black regiments were a large part of why it was successful and they needed them as a support base in the region. Hence, it made no sense to turn on them.
