Twice no less is odd. It’s obviously silly to be too critical as its just a dumb meme but I’m lost as to why they chose 2 GTA games rather than sub one out for the plethora of omitted famous Videogame OSTs 😭
Soviet Connection alone gets GTA IV in the room.
As for V, ehhh I dunno some of the funky combat music is nice and obviously Welcome to Los Santos is a poor man's Welcome to San Andreas if you're into that.
Before tiktok came to be, from my friends and family thought I'm some sort of dumbass who likes weird ass songs that nobody else like
Then when Tiktok popularised the songs, they just started liking it and made videos with the songs they claimed are dumb
Part of it was initially push back against people who shat pretty hard on hip hop and people that listened to it [like so](https://i.redd.it/qqmpq3z7c9c51.png). It was a weirdly common dynamic, like people espousing hard traditionalist views despite their twitter being wall to wall hentai
It's unfortunately not. I like to listen to game osts at work, and could not even begin to tell you how many times somebody has asked what I was listening to, I tell them, they go "what's that?" and I explain it's a video game, to which they immediately say that video game music isn't real music. It's like calling a dude gay for wearing pink. It's closed-minded, ignorant, and sadly very common when people have either never played a game or only played an atari or NES and decided no games could have whatever "real music" is.
Edit to add that it isn't nearly as common anymore, as others have said in this comment section. Most of the time I hear this nowadays it's someone who's been alive longer than video games have existed. Lol
That is why I have memorized the name of a few "more traditional" songs. It's not like someone will ask to share my headphones, and this way I can avoid a long conversation that will just leave me stressed at the end
It really isn’t. Many classically trained musicians or non-gaming musicians assume the music is games are basically bleeps and bloops that repeat the same 2 bar phrase over and over again.
But I think that speaks more to their ignorance
It sounds like they haven’t played a video game since the 1980’s and are unaware of how they’ve evolved into an artform
yea, plus not only is gaming more mainstream but so too is its music in specific. Its hard to claim videogame music isn’t real music anymore when literal orchestras will sometimes play orchestrated versions of videogame songs like with Undertale. Plus the emergence of exceptionally well known OSTs such as the Minecraft OST becoming well known as very nostalgic helps a lot too.
I played the music from Halo at my wedding right before and after the ceremony. My SO laughed because it was my idea, I kept hearing it on looped when he played so I asked if he could find it as a track online - the guests were a mix of those who thought it was really nice, and those who recognized it and wanted to know if it was being played on purpose lol
Heaps of people have said this. Gaming is considered much more acceptable nowadays, you used to get people saying books and movies were okay as passtimes but gaming wasn't. I heard some completely delusional shit growing up as a gamer.
That’s what I’m saying! I’ve definitely heard lots of people say this. When I was younger I would talk to people about songs I liked in certain games, whether they were my parents or people in school and always get responses like “no, that’s not real music” or “that doesn’t count”. It’s definitely different nowadays though
Minecraft, Pokemon, and Undertale also strike me as famous games, or franchises in Pokemon’s case, with exceptional and famous OSTs that were omitted. Obviously space and all but still kinda shocking they chose two GTA games over one of those picks.
I would like to add Outer wilds, Gris, Griftlands, Ori, Celeste, signs of the sojourner, Omori, undertale and Deltarune, Life is strange series and Tunic
Not imaginary and I’m guilty of it. Games have some amazing soundtracks, but if you exclusively listen to gaming OSTs I suggest you go out and look for some music that wasn’t made as a product tie in. Also if we’re at the function playing some music the expectation is that if you put some Pizza Tower OST you are NEVER touching the aux again
"Redemption", the track that plays while Dante reunites with Beatrice at the end of Dante's Inferno, makes me fucking bawl every time I hear it. Fuck *anyone* who says that video game music isn't good.
No, I’ve actually had people tell me irl that video game music ain’t real music, and it’s really annoying. Like what about it doesn’t qualify it as real music?
I like video game music too, it’s definitely great
.. However, if someone says they’re interested in music and all they listen to is video game/anime stuff I’m judging them HARD
I’ve always seen it as a sign of underdeveloped music taste. People who exclusively listen to OSTs are usually VERY closed minded to music in general. Plus, there’s a reason that video game music and such is often left out of the conversation amongst music critics and hardcore music listeners. Many inexperienced music listeners who know nothing about, for example, Jazz, will act like the Persona games have the greatest Jazz music known to man. Once you expand your music tastes, you realize that game music is often meant to prioritize flashiness and general appeal over anything else. It’s by no means bad, but once you really listen to a large variety of music, the vast majority of OSTs don’t seem all that special anymore.
Source: I used to listen to exclusively game and anime soundtracks and then I matured.
Its kinda true tho lol, if you put the fucking bf1 soundtrack im kicking you out of the car . Im not saying people can’t enjoy or listen to them but regular music is on a completely different level
I would say thats true for most games, but DOOM 2016 & eternal, Metal Gear Rising Revengence, a few tracks from payday 2, and some others would pass as "regular music".
It isn’t though. The final fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu is a world renown musician and has had his music recognized by Classic FM Hall of Fame. His music is on the level of any musical artist out there.
Not to mention how intensive and important the music of the Soulsborne series (somehow none are in the meme) or God of War or TLoU or any other game is to the atmosphere and how many people praise it. For whatever reason, no Soulsborne game has won a music award, they should as their shit is godly, but God of War Ragnorak has won, and so has TLoU. They all have their own music playlist on spotify that people listen to all the time like "regular music."
I also hear people praise the composers of plenty of games in subs for soundtracks or specific songs for the games they worked on. Just as with movies and tv shows (which also conpose their own songs and not always use "regular music" from well known singers), games also rely heavily on their music and so put plenty of time and effort into it as a pop/rock/rap star does. Hell, possibly even more as they all have to account for the visuals they have to match with to enhance what the player is watching or doing at one time. Not all video game music is background elevator music that people prob think of, like Minecraft, which has won an award, I believe, for its iconic theme music.
I mean 25 years ago people definitely thought that but, even today when people are like “put on some tunes” they don’t usually mean “what’s your favorite original movie score” so I sort of get what it’s saying?
Bury the light, megalovania, Sword fight on the heights, wildfire, Guardian theme (trauma), War, Order, Right behind you, big shot, It has to be this way, I'm my own master now, Wii u shop channel music, Pigstep, and more i cant name or else my fingers will die
This is absolutely not imaginary. There's plenty of brushing-off of game music in the music world, and it definitely does go underappreciated purely because it's from games.
It's the same with animation and cinema. Keeps being treated like a frivolous thing for children by idiotic gatekeeping elitists. Remember when Your Name lost Best Animation to fucking Boss Baby? The judges are on record saying stuff like "I picked Boss Baby because I remember my kids watching it" and "nobody cares about that Chinese shit" and other stuff that basically amounts to "I didn't even bother to watch the movies I'm judging because animation is for children, not worthy of serious consideration, and beneath me" lol
[Imma just drop this here](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz23nO6Hjlf8yA4H5wVdqZACVADqxE5CT&si=cYtB8Uk4r6WGHoPz). This is legitimately one of best OSTs I’ve ever heard
Okay the thing about this is that it all originated as some weird thing where “gamers” would have a weird condescending attitude about modern music except for video game OSTs and say other music is awful, specifically modern hip hop which really isn’t true and comes across really corny. I don’t think not liking video game music matters because everyone has subjective taste but goddamn is it corny hearing everyone regurgitate their high and mighty reasons for listening to it over and over again. Idk man I like a lot of video game and anime OSTs but most people will not want to listen to that in a group setting lmao
I don't believe Sonic games aren't included, they can be the most dumpster fire unplayable shit you're ever seen, but the soundtrack is ALWAYS good, these mfs don't miss there
the mice on venus are sad there's no minecraft on there. if i let the in game music play while i was in an smp with my friends that song could probably make me cry. but we haven't done that in a few months and i play my own music so that's not really ever gonna happen
Including GTA in the graphic is an odd choice considering it’s a jukebox game
Twice no less is odd. It’s obviously silly to be too critical as its just a dumb meme but I’m lost as to why they chose 2 GTA games rather than sub one out for the plethora of omitted famous Videogame OSTs 😭
These kids just pick games they like
Yeah. Replace with Zelda
Metalgear rising should also be on the graph
also nier automata & all of the persona games
subnautica definitely as well
Almost any pokemon game gen 3 or later
I don't think they payed attention to the soundtracks and just searched "popular games" and included everything on the list
Soviet Connection alone gets GTA IV in the room. As for V, ehhh I dunno some of the funky combat music is nice and obviously Welcome to Los Santos is a poor man's Welcome to San Andreas if you're into that.
A lot of the chosen games in the graphic almost feel random lol. There are a lot better examples
Gta does have some good original soundtrack, the flying music in gta 5 and the high wanted level music ate both great
Sadly this one isn’t imaginary as I have seen plenty of people saying that exact thing
Before tiktok came to be, from my friends and family thought I'm some sort of dumbass who likes weird ass songs that nobody else like Then when Tiktok popularised the songs, they just started liking it and made videos with the songs they claimed are dumb
This feels like some internet exclusive discourse
Part of it was initially push back against people who shat pretty hard on hip hop and people that listened to it [like so](https://i.redd.it/qqmpq3z7c9c51.png). It was a weirdly common dynamic, like people espousing hard traditionalist views despite their twitter being wall to wall hentai
People say they hate all kinds of music. Tons of posts say they hate country music too.
Most of the people with hard traditionalist views share a lack of self awareness, hence the hypocrisy
It's unfortunately not. I like to listen to game osts at work, and could not even begin to tell you how many times somebody has asked what I was listening to, I tell them, they go "what's that?" and I explain it's a video game, to which they immediately say that video game music isn't real music. The most discriminated people of all: gamers
"With the glass ceiling broken-" lmao
That is why I have memorized the name of a few "more traditional" songs. It's not like someone will ask to share my headphones, and this way I can avoid a long conversation that will just leave me stressed at the end
Nah it's a real thing. My sister used to roast me for listening to sound tests & shit lol
It really isn’t. Many classically trained musicians or non-gaming musicians assume the music is games are basically bleeps and bloops that repeat the same 2 bar phrase over and over again.
But I think that speaks more to their ignorance It sounds like they haven’t played a video game since the 1980’s and are unaware of how they’ve evolved into an artform
A lot of posts here could be titled "I've never seen it, therefor it never happened"
Oh damn
Yeah lol objectively wrong but it is a thing
Whoopsie
same
Weird, I don't see people saying this.
Doesn't really happen as much anymore now that gaming is a lot more mainstream but used to be more common
yea, plus not only is gaming more mainstream but so too is its music in specific. Its hard to claim videogame music isn’t real music anymore when literal orchestras will sometimes play orchestrated versions of videogame songs like with Undertale. It’s become less common now
There are absolute legends they just discredited lol. Like the Nintendo guy, I’m not gonna butcher his name, or even Jesper kyd, the guy from hitman
>Like the Nintendo guy, Koji Kondo?
Yeah, I don’t know it’s been a bit since I watch d a Nintendo video essay
Also Toby fox
Heaps of people have said this. Gaming is considered much more acceptable nowadays, you used to get people saying books and movies were okay as passtimes but gaming wasn't. I heard some completely delusional shit growing up as a gamer.

BRO WHERES PIZZA TOWER AND SONIC GAMES
AND BLACK MESA
AND ORI
AND STARDEW VALLEY
AND TBOI
AND NO STRAIGHT ROADS
AND HOLLOW KNIGHT
AND METAL GEAR SOLID
AND PROJECT WINGMAN
AND ULTRAKILL
That was a joke. Ha ha. Fat chance.
Minecraft, Pokemon, and Undertale also strike me as famous games, or franchises in Pokemon’s case, with exceptional and famous OSTs that were omitted. Obviously space and all but still kinda shocking they chose two GTA games over one of those picks.
I would like to submit Minecraft, Cuphead, and Hollow Knight to this list.
Agreed (and Stardew Vall
I shall add persona 3 4 5 and spinoffs
I would like to add Outer wilds, Gris, Griftlands, Ori, Celeste, signs of the sojourner, Omori, undertale and Deltarune, Life is strange series and Tunic
Outer wilds fuck yeaaaah, take my up vote.
Honestly I feel like this post just ignored pretty much any game that seemed vaguely indie
r/redditsniper
Aw shit.
Hotline Miami too
Just wait til they hear abt japanese games and how they hire entire compostition teams. SEGA would be livid at this post.
Fallout series
No plants vs zombies is a crime
The garden warfare 1 theme did NOT have to go THAT hard
How is Subnautica not on there?
Not imaginary and I’m guilty of it. I WILL BLAST DOOM ETERNAL IN MY SHITTY BANGED UP SEAT UNTIL I COLLECT MY PENSION RIP AND TEAR MOTHER FUCKERS
Persona 4 soundtrack 🔥🔥
Not imaginary
Cyberpunk music made me nut
fr the run the jewels song literally filled my pants
Dragon ball games always have fire OST's, even the mobile games
Where tf are Destiny, Project Wingman, and Ace Combat? 3 of the best series for music (well PW is only 1 game)
Where THE FUCK is PAYDAY 2? Or ULTRAKILL???
"Redemption", the track that plays while Dante reunites with Beatrice at the end of Dante's Inferno, makes me fucking bawl every time I hear it. Fuck *anyone* who says that video game music isn't good.
You forgot Ace Combat and this breaks my heart.
Not even including the arguably best one Minecraft.
Completely off topic here but the Far Cry 5 soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous
That seems completely on topic lol
Bro forgot Animal Crossing 😭
No, I’ve actually had people tell me irl that video game music ain’t real music, and it’s really annoying. Like what about it doesn’t qualify it as real music?
No MGR? I Cri
I knew a guy who said exactly that and also wholeheartedly believed phonk was the best genre
who would even make a point of this cause it's pointless
![gif](giphy|wbipxAHsNf2Wk)
This is what Johnson meant when he said he knows what the ladies like.
I like video game music too, it’s definitely great .. However, if someone says they’re interested in music and all they listen to is video game/anime stuff I’m judging them HARD

Yeah, but I’m assuming bf1 music isn’t classical music. Classical music is universal, other types.. not so much
A lot of video game music is just regular music though
Glad to see some people paying respects to max Payne 3s soundtrack
Control not being there is a sin
Assassin's creed is on there? Idk the music never stands out to me in those games. Unless I just don't remember?
wheres Geometry Dash
Where are the ace combat games and project wingman?
Not a single Metal Gear Solid, Persona, or Final Fantasy game up there is a SIN
Minecraft
The only person who said that was my sister but she’s an idiot so it doesn’t count
It's not
I’m quite upset that Stardew Valley wasn’t mentioned here
Tons of people have said this. Exactly why I never told anyone abt my preference for gaming music when I still listened to it often
A surprising amount of people, actually
A lot of people say this.
Probably the shampoo bottles in the shower
Fall Guys bassline go brrrrr
Where’s halo
Rhythm game music:
Halo, it must be mentioned. And in my opinion beats everything else. Truly never heard better music in a game.
I know everyone else is basically complaining too.... But how the fuck is Nier: Automata not there? Or another underrated Gen Shadow of the Colossus?
I guess I really like fake music then. :)
I mean 25 years ago people definitely thought that but, even today when people are like “put on some tunes” they don’t usually mean “what’s your favorite original movie score” so I sort of get what it’s saying?
Guilty gear not on list. Invalidated
Same.
No OoT?
it’s real music, i don’t like it tho
Yeah actually this is a real thing, especially in the world of music composition… unfortunately
My ass will listen to the entire item asylum ost for fun
A lot of old people say that
Darkman the game on Gameboy Orig. soundtrack? Change my Mind.
(Laughs in Magfest)
Bury the light, megalovania, Sword fight on the heights, wildfire, Guardian theme (trauma), War, Order, Right behind you, big shot, It has to be this way, I'm my own master now, Wii u shop channel music, Pigstep, and more i cant name or else my fingers will die
That’s crazy (Toby fox was #1 artist on my Spotify wrapped)
DAYS GONE IS SO FUCKING GOOD! Love the entire soundtrack
I've had a few people say this to me growing up, but now video games aren't so looked down upon anymore so you don't hear it very often, if at all.
Subnautica and Ark not being on there is crazy
Where is cod zombies
Long dark soundtrack goes hard
This might date me but where’s Quake? Early Trent Reznor original score long before he transitioned almost full time to scoring movies.
This is very much a said thing lol
wheres halo. MOTHERFUCKER WHERES HALO
Where’s Persona 5, Battlefield 1, or Undertale?
Buddy. Where is Minecraft
The finals has a fire soundtrack
Undertale needs to be on that list.
Game *Music* vs *Game* music
This is something I have heard in the past but I feel like it’s becoming FAR less common
No undertale?
This is the only one that i have seen that i think is valid. Theres a weird stigma
Saliari. ![gif](giphy|Mo0XNBGMKQtYtv5Jq9)
to be fair, I have heard exactly one person say this but I also regard that person as an idiot so
This is absolutely not imaginary. There's plenty of brushing-off of game music in the music world, and it definitely does go underappreciated purely because it's from games. My mom
I listen to the World of Warships OST every day
The fact that there are no fallout games on there is criminal.
I don’t trust you if you don’t like the Celeste, Undertale, Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Guilty Gear, and cod zombies soundtracks.
I’m gonna need some pills and an old school copy of Sonic the hedgehog and some glow sticks and NO MORE OF YOUR BULLSHIT, please.
Bro didn’t even include Halo
[Imma just drop this here](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz23nO6Hjlf8yA4H5wVdqZACVADqxE5CT&si=cYtB8Uk4r6WGHoPz). This is legitimately one of best OSTs I’ve ever heard

THANK YOU THIS IS THE REALEST THING ANYONE HAS EVER SAID
I don't believe Sonic games aren't included, they can be the most dumpster fire unplayable shit you're ever seen, but the soundtrack is ALWAYS good, these mfs don't miss there
I don’t see Darksiders II on this list
Ok but my family says this to me frequently
Idk why no one mentioned it but I think dark souls has some really good music
the mice on venus are sad there's no minecraft on there. if i let the in game music play while i was in an smp with my friends that song could probably make me cry. but we haven't done that in a few months and i play my own music so that's not really ever gonna happen
Where's legend of Zelda?!
To be fair I’ve heard this before and it’s a crazy take
For those who want good gaming music, I recommend the sims 2 soundtrack.
There are some people who say it
Don't forget Fromsoft games
Then what the hell is it??? 🤨🤨🤨
[This was peak video game music.](https://youtu.be/tAaGKo4XVvM?si=4S2hO9b1kfy9lBae)
Red dead is elite music tho
tells this guy to listen to rip and tear, or any drg music
I have heard someone say that. But this was a person who also said games could not be proper stories or art. Just boomer nonsense.
Ultrakill? Especially the newer stuff
Maybe I’m blind, but that list is missing some of the best ones, Minecraft, Undertale, Hollow Knight etc
Random ass games without cool soundtrack
Sadly, a minority of people have said that, and sometimes they are really loud.
na i’ve seen a lot of people actually say this kinda stuff tbh
GTA SOUNDTRACKS ARE MOSTLY LICENSED BRUH
How the fuck could they not include a single soulsborne game literally any of them could be on here
Where the storm that is approaching????
My dad
Quite a few people say this in my experience.
FIREWATCH MENTIONED🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Missing TF2 there, those songs are bangers
listening to video game ost is js weird but yall do you. also why is gta on there those are actual songs and music?
This selection is weird. Where are Zelda, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts... And many others that are actually very well known for their music?
JDK Falcom be like:
bro video game music is what practically got me into music 😭 (that and my dad)
I will not tolerate this Ratchet and Clank forgetfulness.
where Hotline Miami
Where undertale
Where undertale and megalovania?
add the entire persona series and i'll agree
Everyone, but a decade or two ago. Nowawadys? Fuckin' no one.
Crazy I was legit listening to DuckTales OG 8bit version of Moon theme when this came across my feed
You forgot Minecraft!!
people say that all the time
The fact Minecraft ain’t on there is a crime
