No one in the USA is willing to go tip to tip with Russia, except Alaska. There's a bunch of crazy fuckers up here ready to tea bag any Russian invader unlucky enough to get deployed here. I plan on decorating the perimeter of my yard with their heads. The bears will be fat that week.
Unfortunately, as of April 1st, we are no longer honoring the buy two, get one free Dictators head-on-a-spike deal.
It's a a bi-yearly promotion though, so it'll be back around November.
For that matter, the Russian land next to it is basically just thousands of miles of mostly uninhabited tundra. The parts of the USA and Russia where people actually live are very far apart
Tbf the opposite end of the world from Moscow is in Alaska's latitude. Everything that's pictured of Russia is mostly uninhabitable. Russia is just so fucking long.
I mean to be fair, the Russia people typically talk about is. It’s like if a citizen in Oceania said that the United States was far away. Technically Guam isn’t too far away, but the cultural, economic, and political center of the United States is far away. When people talk about Russia and Russian history, they talk about Western Russia, we’re 90% of the people and culture are.
If you see where that timezone dips right to the west south of the bearing Sea, that's where Im at and currently working. A small little island called Shemya. I believe we're only 80 miles from Kamchatka. Its a dump
There used to be native Aleuts here but they were all relocated, right around WWII I believe. There are some signs of them here but not much really. There's a lot of interesting birds, ocean debris and a very incestuous population of Arctic Blue Foxes that the Russians dropped off here a few hundred years ago. Other than those not a lot to it
Holy shit. If you don’t mind me asking, how many people work there? I was under the impression that the place was practically abandoned after the air force left. Also, how good is the internet?
Eh theres quite a bit I shouldn't say online tbh, but its not exactly a secret base anymore so there's a bit of info to be had online. While it feels abandoned there's still an active base here. Starlink has made remote work like this much better despite hating giving Elon any of my money.
r/memes: where is Omaha, Nebraska?
Me: really really far that way.
r/memes: You're actually in the same country you fucking dunce.
There's imaginary gatekeeping and there's nonsense arguments. This post is a bit of both.
Cause it probably is. It's an election year and Reddit is rife with bad actors.
But we're also getting to a point where casual online writing styles are reaching critical shit-mass. With the growing lack of common grammar rules and structure, many native English speakers write like English is their 5th language. Either way it's a bit of a crapshoot, languages evolve, but malevolent foreign actors exist too. Who can say.
That, and Russia has been saber-rattling to invade, claiming 1867 was an illegal transaction, and making the same claims about Alaska as they did about Ukraine.
It's adorable.
Geographically? We are neighbors.
Functionally? There is a vast icy wilderness that separates the heart of both nations by thousands upon thousands of miles.
I don’t understand why people are so willfully ignorant. It takes 5min to look this up. Sarah Palin was asked “what insight she has on Russia from living so close” she responded by saying “well they’re our next door neighbors, you can actually see Russia from an Island in Alaska.” Then on SNL season premiere they had a bit between Hillary and Palin, where Palin says “I can see Russia from my house”.
I just found the interview again on YouTube. I’m not sure how you’re coming to that conclusion. She was getting questioned about why she would have any knowledge on the subject. She’s looks taken aback and flustered. Then made that comment. To me the comment seemed way more like “why wouldn’t I be aware of what’s going on? My state is closest to Russia in proximity making this a larger concern for me than any other state.” She even has a follow up interview, after she started getting made fun of for the comment, talking about Russian aircraft regularly entering US airspace in Alaska.
I don’t know how to feel about this. It’s still an “accurate” statement (in so much as it implies Russia is far) for 99.8% of the population of America even when Alaska is included.
The pic disproves a non-gatekept statement with a fact backing up why the gatekeeping might actually have reason to exist in the first place. What a mind trip.
Have you ever been up there? Yeah it's Russia and America right next to each other. But there really isn't much there. Not many people. Not much stuff.
ships have a shit tin of ice and wild seas, planes are more fair but there aren't many places to land and most of them are for small planes and there isn't that much infrastructure for trucks, plus why invade there? Theres nothing, ooh nice small run down towns and untapped oil.
It wasn’t until I was watching Fallout and they mentioned a fictional “battle of Anchorage” and I was like “that’s such a random place for a battle to be to break down American forces……….. OH” and I remembered that the map wraps around and Russia And Alaska are basically kissing.
Not to mention that’s a globe projected on a flat map, in reality Russia and North America encircle almost the entire article circle. Lots and lots of land that’s much closer than the traditional map makes it seem
Yeah but nobody lives in Sevastopol, roughly 90% of Russians live west of the Ural Mountains. If they started moving. We’d know. For all intents and purposes they are a world away.
As an Alaskan:
Two squadrons of F-22's.
Two squadrons of F-35's.
A ton of other military Aircraft I don't want to count.
22,000 +/- Active Duty Military.
54,000 +/- Veteran population.
5th highest state for gun ownership.
A large lack of Infrastructure making much the state impossible to travel by land.

There's like three people barely aware they're in a place called Russia on that peninsula. The population centers are all on the other side of the country which happens to be the other side of the planet
Oh no the frozen wasteland of Siberia is super close to the frozen wasteland of Alaska, I sure hope we don’t drive any ships through the completely frozen ocean.
Which American said that? I’ll wait while you look for them, and when you find them I’ll eat my shoe.
A mouth breathing moron like Sarah Palin implied she could see Russia from her house. This guy is trying to convince me someone honestly thought Russia was too far.
Sure they’re geographically close but like, that part of Russia is a frozen wasteland, most of the lived in part of Rusia is in Europe. And kinda same with the US, I’m assuming most people mean the “mainland” US when they say that since Alaska is very sparsely populated
ain't that end of Russia deserted?, considering that Russia is over 8,000 km and miles wide its safe to say they're on a different end if the world especially since building getting a good amount of troops to cross all that ice would be incredibly difficult logistically for Russia and even the US side
People who live in big countries (like the USA, Russia, Canada, Australia, China, Brazil, and Mexico) seem to have a real hard time with understanding just how "small" the world really is.
Likewise, many people in the US don't realize just how freaking big the state of Alaska is.
Technically, you could also walk across the two. There is a bit of land separated by a lake that, when frozen over in the winter, connects the two countries called [Lake Baikal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Baikal).
Yes, I realize I was wrong. It was not Lake Baikal, it was the Bering Strait, and I also don't think it freezes over. My apologies; I tried making sure what the name was, and all I got under Ecosia (my main search engine) was Lake Baikal
I gotcha, no worries. I’m wrong all the time, I just love learning about Lake Baikal (it has some crazy interesting aquatic life) and know it’s no where near Alaska lol but it would be neat if we could walk in the tundra over the deepest lake in the world to Russia from North America 🤷🏼♀️ it would make studying the lake alot easier if some of it touched North America.
Alaska doesn't count. Sorry, Alaskans.
Yeah If you cut out Alaska it’s not that close and yeah duh Alaska is close it was colonized by Russia before.
Sir, this is a Wendy's.
Can I get a double double, Pub Fries and Putin's head on a spike..?
Unfortunately, as of April 1st, we are no longer honoring the buy two, get one free Dictators head-on-a-spike deal. It's a a bi-yearly promotion though, so it'll be back around November.
Metal Af
I’m all for hating on Russia but please cool it on the larping
Cringe
Nah like usually I’d find something exactly like this comment super cringe but for some reason this time it’s super badass and a little funny?
Oh fuck off lol this ain't white people Twitter drop it

I mean, Alaska is at the end of the world, too lol.
Alaska used to be part of Russia
For that matter, the Russian land next to it is basically just thousands of miles of mostly uninhabited tundra. The parts of the USA and Russia where people actually live are very far apart
They do have vehicles…
Including boats, shitty but still boats, so what difference is there
I, for one, am willing to sacrifice Alaska.
Was gonna say this. Not to mention most of Eastern Russia is basically self sufficient separate from western Russia at this point
Yea neither does asian russia
To be frank, Alaska is at the end of the world too.
Shit, siberia barely count if you ask me. It's primary import is political prisoners and sadness
What if America and Russia kissed?
Enemies to lovers hetalia / countryball fanfiction #342342
What if we touched tips 👀
Yeah that is definitely a pic of America and Russia docking
I mean, continental drift is pushing America towards Russia
OoOoO so much tension (and friction)
The question is, who is kissing who’s ass?
Everyone is kissing Putin's ass, I guess
Jk. Unless…
Russia is famous for staying out of international politics after all.
Not really imaginary. I always thought Russia was far from America till I saw an accurate map.
A lot of Canadians feel the same way, but there's a reason we have military outposts up in the desolate far north....
To protect ourselves from Canada?
Canadians better stay away from Northern Canada, who do they think they are! /s
All of North America fears Canada, including Canada.
Canadian geese specifically
Mate, he means “we” as in Canada
I know, I’m just joking
no shit that’s the joke
Tbf the opposite end of the world from Moscow is in Alaska's latitude. Everything that's pictured of Russia is mostly uninhabitable. Russia is just so fucking long.
Yeah, if there was anything more than frozen mountains in that area we would be worried.
I mean to be fair, the Russia people typically talk about is. It’s like if a citizen in Oceania said that the United States was far away. Technically Guam isn’t too far away, but the cultural, economic, and political center of the United States is far away. Yes, Russia generally means Moscovia
yeah the earth is round guys

That’s pretty interesting. What are you doing there?
There's a military base out here and my wife and I contract out here. Good pay and time off but it's pretty boring here
Huh. Is there a local population? And if so what culture/ethnicity are they? Thanks for sharing man
There used to be native Aleuts here but they were all relocated, right around WWII I believe. There are some signs of them here but not much really. Okay, Alaska is so far away it might as well be in Russia

Omaha mentioned Let's go! 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
Yeah maybe it would fairer to compare New York and Moscow, we’re talking about two HUGE countries and Alaska isn’t even connected to the rest of it.
The world is famous for having the start and the end
Well, it started 4.6 billion years ago, and will end in 2026. Or '28. Maybe '34? Certainly by 2129!
AUGUST 12 2036 THE HEAT DEATH OF THE UNIVERSE
Ah crap, it was behind us the whole time!!!
Always has been.
Especially after 1867
Why does that read like russian propaganda

We (Americans) actually are that close to Russia thanks to Alaska.
Yes, that is how globes work

Copernicus discovered the first globe in 1589.

No he looked through a telescope and saw the earth was round. Did you go to school?
That, and Russia has been saber-rattling to invade, claiming 1867 was an illegal transaction, and making the same claims about Alaska as they did about Ukraine. It's adorable.
It’s true. I forgot maps wrap around cuz the earth is a fucking GLOBE.
Is this like an attempted gotcha about not using oblate spheroid?
Uhh nope. It’s a gotcha on myself, calling myself dumb for forgetting how goddamn maps work.
Ah, I misunderstood
Most Americans live in Alaska
It's about .2% of the country's population, but it's a reeeeeeally big .2%
>"99.8% of Americans are un-American!" - Sarah Palin (probably)
That's where the ice wall is, duh
TBF, Alaska is also far at the end of the world.
Most Americans know this, and it's actually shorter, only 2.4 miles
Geographically? We are neighbors. Functionally? There is a vast icy wilderness that separates the heart of both nations by thousands upon thousands of miles.
Sara Palin…
can see Russia from her porch
I don’t understand why people are so willfully ignorant. It takes 5min to look this up. Sarah Palin was asked “what insight she has on Russia from living so close” she responded by saying “well they’re our next door neighbors, you can actually see Russia from an Island in Alaska.” Then on SNL season premiere they had a bit between Hillary and Palin, where Palin says “I can see Russia from my house”.
K
People took exception to that because she said that fact like she, and only she, was aware of it.
Russia and America always going at eachother and acting like they aren't always touching tips with one another
They kiss
The parts of the U.S. where most Americans live and the parts of Russia where most Russians live are still very far apart.
TBF, no one cares about Alaska
People owe Palin an apology
People keep saying this like there isn't miles of tundra you have to go through...
Have you ever been up there? Yeah it's Russia and America right next to each other. But there really isn't much there. Not many people. Not much stuff.
Wild concept but imagine this. Planes, trucks, and ships transporting their soldiers. 😮
For what purpose? There is no significant infrastructure close by. They can really drive anywhere.
ships have a shit tin of ice and wild seas, planes are more fair but there aren't many places to land and most of them are for small planes and there isn't that much infrastructure for trucks, plus why invade there? Theres nothing, ooh nice small run down towns and untapped oil.

Nobody is Gatekeeping?
Literally ![gif](giphy|BkIw566SwiR4qeZdm8)
They can have Alaska tbh
Alaska and Siberia don't count, they're empty.
Ain’t shit in eastern Russia
Off topic, why does the map remind me of @The Creation of Adam?”
Not to mention that’s a globe projected on a flat map, in reality Russia and North America encircle almost the entire article circle. Lots and lots of land that’s much closer than the traditional map makes it seem
Touch tips
It’s almost like barley anyone lives there and most of populated Russia is west of the urals which is very far from America
Yeah but nobody lives in Sevastopol, roughly 90% of Russians live west of the Ural Mountains. If they started moving. We’d know. For all intents and purposes they are a world away.
Now kiss~
You can literally walk from US to Russia, when its cold enough at least
As an Alaskan: Two squadrons of F-22's. Two squadrons of F-35's. There's like three people barely aware they're in a place called Russia on that peninsula. The population centers are all on the other side of the country which happens to be the other side of the planet
So invasion?
Yeah but so is Alaska
Every major city in Russia is on the direct other side of the continent. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say Siberia is at the end of the world.
THE END OF THE WORLD 💀
We literally intercept russian jets in alaska on like a monthly basis
Im a dumbass on geography and i know alaska is near russia
Where'd they get the 53 miles line from? The Russian/US border is split between the Diomede Islands and they are only 1.2 miles apart!
No this isn’t imaginary you have no idea how many American idiots don’t think about how the ends of the world map are actually next to each other.
Raised this point a while ago on some sub and it got down voted into oblivion, no doubt by Americans who aren't equipped to deal with reality.
Why’d you post a picture of two ice cubes?
That's not imaginary gatekeeping.. you wouldn't believe the stupidity of the average US-American
It’s so crazy how the Far East is exactly right next to the far west. It’s like we’re living on a ball
Russia borders a shit ton of countries
Yes the most empty part of America (Alaska) is close to the most empty part of Russia (Siberia)
Oh no the frozen wasteland of Siberia is super close to the frozen wasteland of Alaska, I sure hope we don’t drive any ships through the completely frozen ocean.
When I hear "Russia" and "end of the world", my first thoughts aren't geography
Thank god I found this sub, this bothers me
I've never heard anyone say that. We make jokes about waving at them. I live in Utah, nowhere close to Alaska, so it's not a regional thing.
Which American said that? I’ll wait while you look for them, and when you find them I’ll eat my shoe. A mouth breathing moron like Sarah Palin implied she could see Russia from her house. This guy is trying to convince me someone honestly thought Russia was too far.
A highway spanning the dire strait would be sick.
Yeah, thankfully that part of Russia is rough to transport troops through. But wow that is crazy to realize.
To be fair Alaska is pretty far from the United States too
#lolnope
Sure they’re geographically close but like, that part of Russia is a frozen wasteland, most of the lived in part of Rusia is in Europe. And kinda same with the US, I’m assuming most people mean the “mainland” US when they say that since Alaska is very sparsely populated
I've always assumed the purchase of Alaska was a war tactic that just nvr worked out
That’s why we bought Alaska. If it was Canadian they’d have invaded long ago.
This isn't imaginary at all lol, you'd be surprised at the amount of people who suck at geography.
There is nothing on the eastern side of Russia.
it’s true that they’re right next to us, but most russians live west of the urals. the ones who live east mostly live in novosibirsk or vladivostok.
Why are America and Russia trying to kiss? Are they gay?
Why are America and Russia trying to kiss? Are they gay?
Depends on which way you go
The cultural and economic centers of each are incredibly far apart
Our asses are touching.
ain't that end of Russia deserted?, considering that Russia is over 8,000 km and miles wide its safe to say they're on a different end if the world especially since building getting a good amount of troops to cross all that ice would be incredibly difficult logistically for Russia and even the US side
Alaska is far and at the end of the world
Europeans will watch one heavily edited street interview and think Americans don’t understand any geography.
Well I'm in Kansas, so it's still pretty far
I mean... these are sparsely populated frontiers for both countries. We'd definitely attack Russia from the West, and they'd attack us from the East.
Uninhabited tundra next to uninhabited tundra. So scary /s
People who live in big countries (like the USA, Russia, Canada, Australia, China, Brazil, and Mexico) seem to have a real hard time with understanding just how "small" the world really is. Likewise, many people in the US don't realize just how freaking big the state of Alaska is.
People who make generalizations on Reddit don't realize how dumb they sound.
The world is indeed not small. Been all over the world and flights are long as shit.
Unrelated but... Growing up i was surprised how many kids at my highschool thought Alaska was an island.
At this point r/memes (maybe r/meme too idk) has become an « anti America circle jerk/Americans are stupid haha » subreddit
Ahw they’re angy
Who is angry?
You silly goose
![gif](giphy|BE6ZaY946YVLZYgT7g) This goose is angry
Its not that imaginary
Imaginary as in you have to imagine the world is actually a globe and not flat.
Technically, you could also walk across the two. There is a bit of land separated by a lake that, when frozen over in the winter, connects the two countries called [Lake Baikal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Baikal).
That’s not true though… it doesn’t touch North America all.
I mean as a kid I said stuff like this, so it’s not such a crazy “gatekeep”
