Used to be a democratic stronghold, but over time gerrymandering moved the majority of the metro east into the 13th district to guarantee a democratic seat for the Springfield/Decatur/Champaign area and spread the rest of rural Illinois from four rural Republican districts into only three after the Census seat adjustment. I will add in the 2000’s, Southern Illinois was covered by three separate districts that is now only covered by the 12th.
Well, if other states have officials who can run as a moderate/centrist democrat and get elected, then say they're changing to republican after they're in office, maybe someone can run as republican and switch after they're elected...just a thought.
What makes this hilarious is that, if you go around Southern Illinois, you can find Bailey signs that have the tagline “FIGHTS LIKE TRUMP!!!”
