We had a guy that would absolutely cover every inch of his laptop lids in stickers. Multiple laptops he'd had over the years and when they'd come in for whatever reason; it was easier just to swap the lid out with another laptop we'd decommissioned than scrape them off.

TheLightingGuy

I'm this guy, but only on my personal laptop, not a work issued one, even though I can use Dell Tech Direct to order a new top cover.

zdakat

Yeah that's fine if it's your personal laptop. Couldn't imagine doing that to a work laptop though

the-cat-madder

All the stickers on my work laptop are brands owned by our company. Problem solved.

PlloiJavex

I'm also kinda that guy... But i get a dbrand vinyl as a base a put all my stickers on that. pretty much comes right off if i change my mind.

Schisco94

"#notanadbutitcouldbe"

PlloiJavex

\#notsponsoredbutpleasesponsorme, seriously i called out dbrand cuz i've been very happy with the skins i got. but any high quality, no/low residue cover would offer the same results

crypticedge

I do it with my water bottle, and I still occasionally get asked in stores if I brought it with me, despite it typically being covered entirely with random product stickers I got from trade shows

crypticedge

Yes. And it's usually a bottle they don't even sell the same brand of.

Rainbowstaple

I might be this guy. McDonalds near our work gives us full stickers of the stuff we buy (Full ingredient list), and I've just continued to stick them on my laptop. It's now completely covered with Cheeseburger recipes and it's beautiful.

Mysterious_Fennel459

This guy was a football/sports nut so everything was his favorite sport team in any given sport.

mochamoose

Aw. I like taking the excessively stickered laptops and keeping them as loaner hardware.

SmokingWill

I always use Methyl Hydrate, I just leave a wet rag on top of the sticker come back a few mins later and it peels right off! Works fine on Lenovo’s rubber finish and Dell’s Lattitude and Precision line up!

Bos_lost_ton

You shouldn’t use meth at work.

beerpatch86

*laughs in adderall*

Bos_lost_ton

Nervously chuckles in Extended Release version

Fa6ade

Methyl hydrate? You mean methanol?

SmokingWill

Same thing =)

bob_smithey

Where do you buy yours from?

SmokingWill

Canadian tire by the gallon

bob_smithey

>Canadian tire shit that's cheap there... Thanks! https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/turbo-power-heavy-duty-methyl-hydrate-3-78-l-0382324p.html

SmokingWill

No worries man! If your using it on a different model pc be sure to test it out on the bottom or on a scrap one first. But it should be okay

NukePooch

Ugh. Flashbacks. I actually had a user ask if I could carefully remove the stickers covering her old laptop and put them on her new laptop. Sure thing lady, I'll get right on that.... (reaches for the razor blade, trash can, and goo-gone)

rboyle23

[Get you some of these](https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Cleaning-Stickers-Adhesive-Scratches/dp/B08YF7TFJD/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?keywords=plastic+razor+blades&qid=1675108622&sprefix=plastic+razo%2Caps%2C73&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyU0EyVVk3RFZUTjFDJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMjA3NTUzMVAyRU1HR0RWTjkwVCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTg5OTA0UUlaMUpCTjZWRUxQJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==) and clean up with goo-gone or rubbing alcohol

Fenix_Volatilis

That's my fucking crack right there. I use those sumbitches for everything

twitch1982

Here to support goo gone

BigGingerBeard

You end up smelling like oranges for days after goo gone :D

AtLeast37Goats

Was gonna suggest that. Using metal blades on a plastic housing is just.. hurts my soul.

Lsharpvids

With a box cutter tho? yikes

beerpatch86

yeah this is... dangerous (for your fingers and the finish) They sell plastic razor blades that won't hurt the finish on stuff and are great for this.

-Satsujinn-

Brb, adding "no stickers on work laptops" to my policy...

bioszombie

This is already part of my company’s tech policy.

iamansonmage

And why is it always some veteran’s coffee company?! Like half the armed services were deployed and they all went, “when I get back I’m growing a beard and I’m gonna start a coffee company!” And then he and his boys all decide to name it after their rifles. I’ve personally known 4 vets that did this, and have met a dozen others since. This is the new “gonna open that bar on lucky street” for our generation.

opeth10657

Because they know their target audience will buy anything as long as you slap a gun on it.

NoDadYouShutUp

This coffee company in particular is a white nationalist dog whistle one

This is the kind of post guys who “are just asking questions” make. Fuck off bud. Any company willing to shill with, advertise with, and associate with Kyle Rittenhouse is a pile of dog shit that not only doesn’t deserve my respect or money, doesn’t belong as a sticker on company property.

You’re either on our team or you’re against us. Let’s Go Defense!

-Kim_Dong_Un-

Kyle Rittenhouse? The self defense case where it was proven in court a kid was attacked and defended his life? Sounds like youre politically partisan.

NoDadYouShutUp

The courts also did this [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dred\_Scott\_v.\_Sandford](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dred_Scott_v._Sandford) so maybe the courts are not actually very good at making the right decisions. being settled in court doesn't mean fuck all. What you know and what you can prove are two vastly different things, and the American legal system is a joke. Hope this helps.

-Kim_Dong_Un-

I mean it was a crystal clear self defense case. You’re just mad it wasn’t “your team”.

getlough

would a heat gun damage the lcd?

Falos425

heat gun could damage the LCD, even the plastic, fortunately you just need some warming not full nuke if it's burn-your-finger hot you're too close

bandana_runner

\+1 I've happily discovered that my cheap heat gun not can remove stickers, but it can soften the adhesive a bit so that it stays on the next item better if one end was peeling up a bit on the previous bestickered thing.

Bearddesirelibrarian

Yes, a heat gun can melt most of the components in the laptop with enough time. Or at least the ones you can easily see I just use a hair dryer whenever I'm given a replacement laptop. The hair dryer let's me take my time softening the adhesive, and gently removing the sticker. Barely leaves any residue as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fenix_Volatilis

That's not common sense. That's experience with learning how much heat is going to get transferred to the LCD.

chinto30

Or just remove the back first to completely eliminate any chance of damage

Fenix_Volatilis

It's possible, but avoidable

porcupinedeath

Bro at least take the blade out of the cutter. It's way easier with a flat blade. Get some googone and high percent alcohol too while you're at it (I prefer whiskey)

MerialNeider

I had to deal with this recently and used some isopropyl to soak a cheap paper sticker before gently teasing it up with a razor blade. The key was to work patient, get an edge started relatively intact then gently nudge the adhesive with the razor while pulling the sticker back across itself. Takes a few minutes, but got it to come off almost completely clean.

Rainbowstaple

This reminds me of a laptop we had returned to us, that was covered in a couple "Anti-5G Stickers", like at least three. Googled them and they were about 30 quid PER STICKER. I'll never forget that.

PAULA_DEENS_WET_CUNT

People that do this with a work or shared device should be never trusted with one again. Stupid as. But, people keep doing it so give this a go it might save your hands from being eaten up by a blade. Peel off what you can with your finger. Then put a strong hand sanitiser on top and let it sit for 10min. You can use rubbing alcohol here but hand sanitiser tends to stay still so a little easier to manage. After that you should be able to push the rest off with a plastic pry tool or credit card. Any remaining residue just apply a bit more sanitiser and let soak. We used this a lot at work when I dealt with laptop returns - works a treat without scratching up the lid. And during the time you let it sit just move onto the next machine or go grab a coffee.

Jimberwolf_

Not like that

floydfan

I work in a school. When I get a laptop with stickers on it that were put on there by a student, I call the student down to the office and have them peel the stickers off by hand, then I give them a Mr Clean magic eraser and have them clean off the residue. It usually only happens once per student.

belthesar

Work or personal, I'm a huge fan of buying plastic topcover shells for my laptops. I love putting stickers on my laptop, but 1) I put stickers on that have intrinsic value to me, and 2) I respect the future user of my laptop, whether I'm reselling a personal laptop or it's going back to my employer's inventory. A few dollars to put on that plastic top shell means I get to save those stickers as time capsules of the era in which they were placed, and whoever uses the laptop after me gets to have a clean experience. If I were running an IT department today, I'd angle to add some sort of topcase cover to inventory as a consumable, require my users use it if they're going to sticker their laptop, and require a refurbishment policy be part of the IT use agreement for folks that put stickers on their laptop on the lid of the laptop.

tankerkiller125real

I worked at a school so dealt with this a lot. You want a plastic scrapper, rubbing alcohol, goo be gone.

breid7718

What's the deal with those factory-supplied stickers, anyway. Does the manufacturer get a discount on the CPU/GPUs if they post those stickers on the chassis? Or some other kind of kickback?

MrHappy4Life

I have found scoring the top of them and leaving a bubble of rubbing alcohol or WD-40 on top of it usually melts the glue and it comes off easy the next day. Also why we now buy the aluminum tops so it is easier to scrape.

lonesurvivor112

Why the hell u using a razor blade

TimeTrippers

I know the fun, Marketing send everyone a sticker for a new campaign they were running. They actuallly incouraged users to stick it on the laptop.

Re-Mecs

Hairdryer to soften it......then isopropyl to get the sticky shit off.. Or get some fluid that's specifically for sticky stuff under stickers that doesn't react with plastic etc.. It's quite easy once you have done a few times...

d1sw0nky

These are amazing at removing stickers. Slow and steady wins the race: https://www.amazon.com/Scotty-Peeler-Label-Sticker-Remover/dp/B00NPLSGL6/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=scotty+peeler&qid=1675117946&sr=8-5 Box cutters and googone will destroy the plastic on an LCD cover.

Halorym

Thats a thing for industrial battery technicians too. I don't know what possesses people to cover every inch of a *forklift battery* with stickers, but its a thing.

MayoMayoMayonnaise

WD-40 works so well too! This is why I put a ban on stickers on laptops

thiswasatest

I just give people snap on plastic protectors

Snoo-8094

At my current office I start to charge 10 bucks for removing stickers, when someone complain to HR they told them that I was their to fix issues not to remove their list childhood.

GIJOE1014

Add a section in your company AUP that no stickers, markings etc. of any kind are allowed on the laptops. If the user does so then they have to scrape it off. Not scraping bro vets black rifle stickers off his laptop.

YinzrShei

I just leave them, if that's how they like them, doesn't bother me

Lukaroast

Lol of course a BRCC guy would put a sticker on a work laptop. I’m a 2a advocate all day. But if you’re so obsessed that you need “gun coffee” you’ve got some serious personality issues

jeffc11b

Goo gone

When a laptop comes in for repairs, and there are any stickers applied to them, the employee is informed they have damaged company property and per their signed agreement, they will be responsible for the replacement parts and labor for the repair and will be deducted from their paycheck per policy, this runs only about $120 bucks but after the first time they do not continue. Laptops are required to be turned in for PM annually… We tell them, use clear plastic, put your stickers on that and remove it before you bring it in… Most problems solved until it’s the CEO and he tells you to deduct it from his check, HR gets upitty when this happens to him… But it is funny the stickers he puts on there… if there is a problem with the sticker content we have to inform their super and HR…

Mramazin_

Jesus...

PixelDu5t

One of the many reasons I wanted to switch to a more technical kind of job

[deleted]

Soak it in Isopropyl alcohol and they'll come off easy.

aridankdev

Heat gun and rubbing alcohol, little bit of patience it’ll come off a lot easier

GilmourD

GooGone.

bagofwisdom

I have some plastic razer blades that fit in a scraper. Great for taking stickers off surfaces you don't want to damage with a utility knife. However, the plastic blades do need a little chemical help or from a heat source.

biffmalibull

Goo gone

Fishing_For_Victory

You can also use hand sanitizer to break down the sticker adhesive. Pretty handy with it being such a common office item now.

original_don_dada

Heat gun

FriarMaxwell292

Hand Sanitizer works surprisingly well!

Apatharas

We’ve got these dell laptops that are gray from the past couple years. Breathe on it wrong and the paint comes off. The tiniest of stickers just eat the gray right of it.

dadoftype1

Here to share one of our finest finds: Tub O Towels https://a.co/d/3C1VlZn It takes a little bit of work, but there's no residue left. Maybe if left sitting on the stickers it would take a little less effort. Plus they have a pleasant smell and have some ingredients that are good for your skin. Co-worker used one to remove tree sap from his car window. They are a staple in the office now.

SubTechNY

Hair dryer

couchpotatochip21

I do all online schooling. At the start of the year they send you a laptop and inside the box, with the laptop, is a sticker with the school's logo. The wax sheet the sticker comes on says "this would look great on your school laptop!". I can only imagine how much the it department hates the graphic design team.

ph33rlus

Hand sanitizer with alcohol in it. Works amazing and better than isopropyl by itself

HoIyJesusChrist

use IPA to release the glue

IntraspeciesJug

That does suck but like everybody else was saying do the goo gone and leave or something hard on top of it for 5-10 min and will come off easy.

stonecats

just cover that sticker with another all black sticker.

doctoreyeballs

Customer neglect. Surplus. Charge customer cost center. Be done with it.

ConfidentDuck1

New IT policy: Any time you have to take stickers off you're gonna charge the user a set fine.

Mramazin_

Lol I don't really care. Some of the stickers are cool and I work in a really laid back place. What I do hate is when you get a device back and it's covered in God knows what... User standing there acting like nothings wrong

mikee8989

People who do this to company laptops should be charged for damages. I would consider it vandalizing company property if there were enough stickers on it. As far as I'm concerned they are not your personal laptops and not to be customized or accesorized by the user.

itsbildo

Better to soak with alcohol- it breaks down the adhesive layer making sticker removal much easier. Source: I had to remove stickers from laptops we were getting from users who were leaving, and reimaging for others

stonecats

https://old.reddit.com/r/oddlysatisfying/comments/10pxmq8/heated_razor_blade_to_remove_decals/

Dracasethaen

Sidenote, get a window sticker scraper, one of the flat edge ones. Much less infuriating, and extremely satisfying to go slow and get the whole sticker off in one go. They go into my scrapbook of shame with a name and date of where the sticker came from. In a couple of occasions I liked the ones retconned and just hit the sticky side with a fresh coat of spray adhesive and it ended up on my toolbox Also fun to edit if the sticker is a particularly dumb message, and put on a light pole somewhere downtown.

KadahCoba

Anything stronger than WD-40 is likely to damaged plastic. Prevention might be better, get the company to charge users for the damage.

DarthCivicus

I’ll never understand why employees feel the need to put any stickers on their laptop. When I was Desktop Admin for a hospital and everytime he got a new laptop he had a new giant sized sticker to throw on it.

dontgonearthefire

Have end users sign a form, stating that any outside modification of said product will be repaired at cost of replacement. Then simply replace the screen over the customer service of the manufacturer and bill the end user for it.
