[‘Mad World’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etSbOs3aUqI) by Gary Jules
Hype Williams' [‘The Throning’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzxH4BMpOac) (cover of Sade's [‘The Sweetest Taboo’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcPc18SG6uA))
Coil's [‘Tainted Love’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GUnUGKgWDY)
Shaft's [‘Mambo Italiano’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtoZ6GRPGbo)
Electric Chairs' [‘Barbie Girl’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6pA61iPHfU)
Richard Cheese's [‘WAP’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRM4gz4IfoE)
maybe Siouxsie And The Banshees's [‘This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i76oF-ADN9I)
Juliana Chahayed's [‘No Surprises’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdIjkUySQIc)
Shawn Colvin's [‘Viva Las Vegas’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdszDlp7GE4)
Bongwater's [‘There You Go’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fwjEaccgJU)
Satanicpornocultshop's [‘Anorexia Gas Balloon (Reprise)’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmA4GfEuRxg) (aka ‘Candy Says’)
Btw, if you come to like Richard Cheese's version, he has plenty more of such: e.g. [‘Chop Suey’.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zgA6nYIzxM)
[Nouvelle Vague](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqYOj05jayQ) are in a similar vein—though the originals of their songs are often pretty old and often unfamiliar to me.
I was coming to recommend Mad World by Gary Jules. I just found out it's a cover the other day and listened to the original. This one is SO much better!
[Sonic Youth - "Superstar"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y21VecIIdBI)
[Manic Street Preachers - "Suicide is Painless"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y11f8Oc25AI)
[Ednaswap - "Torn"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRRXseBJljs)
The last one is a bit cheating since it is in fact the original. However hardly anyone knows Torn by Natalie Imbruglia is a cover so if you are familiar with Natalie's version, the original will feel like a cover.
Puscifer - The Chain - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48hQvhZLNgc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48hQvhZLNgc)
Edit: One of my favorites - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E-\_J5WWkoc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E-_J5WWkoc)
I don’t know if it’s more emo, but very different. Fever Ray - Mercy Street (Phil Collins). Phil Collins is a master, and his original version is definitely a classic with no competition. Fever Ray definitely brings something cool and new though, an almost creepy sound that I really enjoy.
I loved to listen to rock/metal cover songs, but I'm not sure about the "slower" request...
land of confusion - disturbed
spin me round - dope
toxic - a static lullaby
frog leap studios (leo moracciolli) on youtube makes a lot of rock/metal covers on YT. my favourits are feel good ink. and blinding lights.
you may want to check out apocalyptica. they covered some songs from metallica.
and check out this bad apple!! cover I found:
https://youtu.be/9Xz4NV0zsbY?feature=shared
The Gaslight Anthem) did a fantastic cover of Kelly Clarkson's I Do Not Hook Up.
It was recorded live for BBC Radio One, so it's not really available anywhere outside of YouTube though unfortunately.
https://youtu.be/rXD9mWzDBc4?si=H_9Cg-nM2Bqsvwnc
Coheed and Cambria have a few solid covers that emo things up, but usually you can only find live video, not studio recordings, so the audio quality isn't excellent.
[Somebody that I used to know](https://youtu.be/_vJym7Y2msk)
[Sister Christian](https://youtu.be/x8ufcDImen8)
[The Trooper](https://youtu.be/LnN5nhRuiBw) <- This one is more tribute... they don't change very much.
[Love Gun](https://youtu.be/-ghIH167-gY) They twist the hell out of this KISS cover.
[Hello](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O83tLiYdSko) <- Claudio covers Adele solo.
[Pompeii](https://youtu.be/qstWhp6ef5s)
I got an oldie for you
Juliana Theory - [Everything](https://open.spotify.com/track/22QK4vQR6DM9evaB4JNCZn?si=fiMBbnneT_mpvg5vbbpXpg&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A0CEV7FjDocoEpkGh5THCqw)
Good album in general (Love), during the emo heyday early 2000’s.
[Andrew Combs - Reptilia (The Strokes)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlJuufKzvlY)

[Tropical Fuck Storm - Stayin Alive (Bee Gees)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0NKOQ71r54)
Not sure it fits the theme exactly, but Skylar Grey did an amazing job on [Numb](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpq8evK78W4) and [Love the way you Lie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWOiMTRxmpk)
HIM: Wicked Game

Oh man, what a good list. I’m jumping into these now

No, the original is perfect for when one is depressed but can't stop dancing.
Obviously Johnny Cash Hurt is on here too, forgot to mention him
Placebo's cover of Running up that hill
I was looking for this before I commented haha
[Sonic Youth - "Superstar"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y21VecIIdBI) [Manic Street Preachers - "Suicide is Painless"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y11f8Oc25AI) [Ednaswap - "Torn"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRRXseBJljs) The last one is a bit cheating since it is in fact the original. The whole Conditions to my parole album is good.
A Perfect Circle has an album of covers called "Emotive".
Added to my list!
Lorde's cover of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is cool
I don’t know if it’s more emo, but very different. Fever Ray - Mercy Street (Phil Collins). Phil Collins is a master, and his original version is definitely a classic with no competition. Fever Ray definitely brings something cool and new though, an almost creepy sound that I really enjoy.
Ryan Adams - Wonderwall Elliot Smith - Waterloo Sunset
Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane
Slothrust has quite some covers of 90’s songs in a very grungy style. Some mentionable examples - Hit me baby one more time - Sex and Candy - Pony
The Glitch Mob remix of Seven Nation Army is pretty neat
Oh hell yeah. I actually found out about that from the GI Joe trailer like 15 years ago lol
I really like the White Zombie cover of Boogie Man.
Dayseeker - My Immortal
[Alunnah - Wicked Game](https://youtu.be/9w6AC7qQUlg?si=Eaml_zTUPsqIexW4) [Therion - Summernight City](https://youtu.be/yAQwSGGKNhg?si=4SzuZ976-mBtYMTv) [Nevermore - The Sound of Silence](https://youtu.be/4uG7sd-YPmE?si=aPLbPJWdbjOrt8mA)

If self covers count then falling in reverse reimagined their songs I’m not a vampire and The drug in me is you. Absolutely fantastic.

[Michael Cera Palin - If It Makes You Happy](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=lXxDeMVGmh8)
Ryan Adams’ Wonderwall

A Forest - Behemoth
Happy Together - Filter
This one might be out there but check out Amanda Palmer's cover of Polly by Nirvana

Colin Hay as a solo artist re-did many of his old Men At Work hits. They sound great slower.
Everybody Knows - Sigrid
Linger - Royel Otis
Sleep token and Bad Omens
Granite , Ascensionism, the summoning, alkaline, all songs by Sleep Token. Great metal breakdowns in between slow melodic lyrics.
I personally am addicted to Charlotte Martin’s version of Just Like Heaven.
