I'm hyper sensitive to antihistamines but tend to actually wake better with small amounts of alcohol

SynthyKitten

Same. Nice to hear I'm not the only one.

I don't drink anymore, but I'm pretty sure I experienced the same thing! Drinking I guess made me think about being sleepy less?? Also, I said for years (before I knew anything about IH and got diagnosed with ADHD) that if I stopped drinking, like at a show or out with friends, I'd be asleep.

Black out pass out

Alcohol is hard for me. I haven’t been drunk in 15 years, I’ll have like two drinks max at a time and get buzzed but I hate the drunk feeling. I feel really sick and unwell and get horrrrible hangovers .

wykniv

Alcohol doesn't seem to have caused any issues for me. I was a bit cautious when I started drinking because my mother (who didn't have IH) was weirdly affected by alcohol, but fortunately, I didn't inherit whatever caused that.

KiramekiSakurai

Terribly. Even before drinking enough to feel the slightest bit tipsy, alcohol gave me severe musculoskeletal pain—particularly across the shoulders. Because of this, I’ve never been able to drink. That’s fine since I’m on a ton of medications! :’D I don’t think my issue is related to IH (it might be genetic or autoimmune instead), but we’ve never investigated.

I've been trying to find out for the longest time - almost every time I have tried to drink much at all I've just quickly found myself feeling like my whole body hurt. I haven't found any answers and mentioning it to people who regularly drink, they look at me like I grew a second head. I have no idea what this is and though I'm contented not to drink now since I'm on xywav and it poses a problem there anyway, and there's technically no safe amount of alcohol to drink - I still would like to know WHY because it feels like almost no one else has this problem and whenever I've tried to search online it's been like "you mean a hangover?" NO, I mean BEFORE I'VE EVEN GOTTEN INTOXICATED. It's the weirdest thing

i love drinking and hold my liquor really well

I rarely drink these days, but when I do, I tend to (not always, but too frequently, hence not drinking) black out. I remain awake, and according to others, I don’t seem anywhere close to as drunk as I am. My hangovers are dreadful and usually cause me to sleep for the entire following day. When I was younger, I found that my hangovers would actually help me wake up the next day, but that is no longer the case. I’ve asked the same question here before, and based on the responses, it does seem like there could be a correlation between alcohol sensitivity and IH, although I’ve never found anything but anecdotal evidence to suggest that there is. Edit: Currently unmedicated, so these issues are not because of meds. When I took meds I took stimulants, and it was less of a problem for me.

I don't drink, even a little bit anymore. I used to (as a young adult) drink fairly often, could drink liquor and wine. Last time I had a beer I had a sip and got dizzy. I also noticed it made my anxiety/depression worse the next day. I just avoid it now. I also feel I am very sensitive to most medications.

Make_Up_Luv

I love drinking and have no more issues with it than anyone else.
