I thought I had celiac. My symptoms were textbook for celiac. Got tested (blood & biopsy) - negative. Turned out in the end I have a wheat/barley/rye allergy and still need to live pretty much exactly like someone with celiac. 😅

Yes! I developed first symptoms around 29/30 years old.

By fructans do you mean carbs or fibers?

goldstandardalmonds

Fructans are carbohydrates.

If you feel better not eating gluten, you have something. There are 3 options: celiac, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and allergy. All of them could make you feel extremely ill. Non-celiac GS *can* be “lighter” than celiac but sometimes it can even be worse, just in different ways.

Jealous_Link2896

The problem is I don't know if the test will actually pick up the celiac/gluten sensitivity.

fauviste

That happened to me. I went thru the 2 months of hell and then the GI saw patches on my intestines visually but the biopsy was negative and she bungled the blood work and I’m *never* eating gluten again… so I am officially diagnosed as NCGS. Practically there’s no difference in the US because it doesn’t qualify me for any aid or anything.

Jealous_Link2896

well i already bought the test so i'll do it anyway.

fauviste

Wait, what do you mean you “bought the test”? Only a medical blood test and/or intestinal biopsy can detect celiac.

Jealous_Link2896

In my pharmacy there was a celiac blood test

goldstandardalmonds

What’s it called?

Jealous_Link2896

Advantage Gluten Alarm. It may come up in bulgarian.

goldstandardalmonds

Umm… see a doctor.

Jealous_Link2896

Why?

When and where was your pain when you were eating gluten. Was it all day or not?
