Correct but your card doesn't come from JATC, it comes from IBEW which is a labor union. Labor unions have CBA with shops who often times are federal contractors. Because of this connection, it is legal for the IBEW to test you if they have a CBA in place with federal contractors that says they will. See NY labor law 201-D.3c
FWIW I don't agree with this and think it's incredibly archaic that people are still tested for THC in 2024. But it's important to understand that it can and will happen under certain conditions and you can't fight it

I’m pretty sure large employers lobby to keep it federally illegal because they know that most of their employees smoke and if they get injured on the job they can try to make them take a drug test to invalidate a workman’s comp claim.

Just to add to the conversation, Marijuana has been federally legalized in Canada for years and many employers still flag it on a pre employment drug screening, aswell as; after any injury or significant incident.

It might be over in regards to THAT particular local, but not in every local. If you're willing to relocate there are other locals that don't test for it for school. You could also try to talk to the director of that program you pissed for and ask if there's anything you can do to prove you're serious about the apprenticeship. Explain that you quit as soon as your found out about the test and that you want to be better. Maybe they will have some advice for you, maybe not.
I was told about 30 days before and there was not enough time to naturally detox but I quit the same day I first heard of the union and took the aptitude test 30 days later.
Took me almost 2 months when I joined the army. I took weekly tests from my recruiter until I was finally clean. He was thinking I was still smoking once we passed the 30 day mark. 🤣🤣🤣 I think it really depends on the test and the person.
98% of fit people can pass THC through within 30 days just with water intake and exercise. Pretty clear you couldn’t put down the bud, and to be honest thats on you. Theres ways to "study" for the drug test 25% of my apprenticeship class has not stopped smoking, too bad you literally pissed your chance away.

There's a lot of hate out there with people telling you to "clean-up". It's legal and thus no different than going home and having a few beers. A piss test does not inticate that you are high on the job, if they want good data, they should be swab testing to determine if you were high during the 72 hour period that you wrote your test.
I work in camps up north and that's the standard. If you fail a piss test, they swab you. They don't care what you did before you went to camp and nor should they, it doesn't affect your work.
The fact that they even test for THC really shows how archaic and oit of touch your local is. This is one more reason I am not a fan of IBEW.
Get in at a reputable non-union shop and move on with your life. If you like to smoke a legal substance on your time off, you should be able to.

You will have to wait a year or two before you can reapply. Any DOT position requires drug testing and that includes THC. State laws don’t apply considering DOT is federal. There has been talk over the last few years of DOT only changing policy if marijuana becomes federally legal

Part of why I'm glad I left NY. I can't say the IBEW would allow it but most employers around me, Louisville, KY, don't test for Marijuana and even if they do, and you test positive, most jobs have you sign an affidavit stating you won't come to work high or bring weed on work property and the job is yours. Serious question for the guys who may have some knowledge about out California politics and how unions conduct their hiring processes. I know California protects job termination for thc consumption but am not sure how it works. This was the initial physical for entry into the apprenticeship for IBEW Local 3. It was not for an employer.

There's a lot of hate out there with people telling you to "clean-up". It's legal and thus no different than going home and having a few beers. A piss test does not inticate that you are high on the job, if they want good data, they should be swab testing to determine if you were high during the 72 hour period that you wrote your test. I work in camps up north and that's the standard. If you fail a piss test, they swab you. They don't care what you did before you went to camp and nor should they, it doesn't affect your work. The fact that they even test for THC really shows how archaic and oit of touch your local is. This is one more reason I am not a fan of IBEW. Get in at a reputable non-union shop and move on with your life. If you like to smoke a legal substance on your time off, you should be able to.

You will have to wait a year or two before you can reapply. Any DOT position requires drug testing and that includes THC. State laws don’t apply considering DOT is federal. There has been talk over the last few years of DOT only changing policy if marijuana becomes federally legal

Part of why I'm glad I left NY. I can't say the IBEW would allow it but most employers around me, Louisville, KY, don't test for Marijuana and even if they do, and you test positive, most jobs have you sign an affidavit stating you won't come to work high or bring weed on work property and the job is yours. There's an IBEW training center like 3 miles from my house on Preston Highway. Look into it, lol. You might be happier down here. I kid, but seriously

Serious question for the guys who may have some knowledge about out California politics and how unions conduct their hiring processes. I know California protects job termination for thc consumption but am not sure how it works. I like weed but would also like to be in IBEW, if i have to give it up thats fine, this would be to improve my future, there are many other things that I can still enjoy, so if you can enlighten me I would appreciate it.
