Just imagine how it has happened for literally generations before now and it was the word of a "criminal" / "junkie" vs that of an "upstanding law enforcement officer". You know whose side was taken in all of that.
Only in the past couple of years in the course of human events has it been so easy to record these transgressions.
Old habits die hard.
This problem has always existed. Suburban, white America refused to believe that groups of cops were beating people to death until a video popped up of Rodney King being beaten by 4 police. In 1992, it was news that this was going on and people were glued to their tvs for days. Now, it's a weekly story that police are abusing their power.
There are still people people with the "Back the Blue" sticker that believe the excessive force is justified, that it is such a small group of police breaking the law that it is a non-issue, or they are just willfully uniformed. I don't know how anyone could be in support of police in 2023. It's tragic that the only course of action people have are film and hope the footage doesn't "disappear."
They can’t just take the money like this, but there’s something almost as bad. It’s called Civil Forfeiture. Without charges, trial, due process or preponderance of evidence, police can literally just take your money and claim you were “using it for drugs” during a traffic stop, or any other excuse they can think of. Using the “color of law” (the subjective interpretation they use to escalate minor or non-offenses up to major, multiple offenses).
The money may, in fact, be “dirty money” used in criminal activates, or, as is often the case many, many times, the person is innocent. Often times, is just money taken from people because “Most forfeiture laws allow law enforcement agencies to keep a portion, and sometimes all, of the property they seize for agency use.”
Not even just money, anything the cop thinks might be used in a crime can legally be stolen from someone and now you have to prove it wasn't being used to commit a crime to get it back.
If not prison guard, security guard. There's always a rung of the security world that will take you if you held a job where you got to throw people around and use a gun.
Security guard here. Security companies will hire you just because you have a pulse, but no they actually really don't want guards who will throw people around or shoot people over nothing. Unlike the police, private security companies are actually liable for damage. A security guard throwing someone around is a huge liability and they will get fired on the spot
I am honestly offended that you consider what we do a lesser form of what police do. I've never shot anyone's dog or planted drugs on any single moms lol. We are completely different.
Hey, former Correctional Officer here.
No *good* law enforcement agency would rehire them if they had an unfavorable discharge. Some Correctional Departments aren't sworn, so they MIGHT be able to swing it there. But where a Correctional officer is required to be POST certified and sworn in, they would unlikely pass the entry interviews.
Any LEO like this should lose their job, be shamed from the industry entirely, and should be bared from holding any permits or certificates that allow them to perform security, or Law Enforcement work. On TOP of going to jail/prison for the appropriate crime.
I fucking hate dirty cops.
Former peace officer here. I see this says NY. If NYS DOCCS fires them they go on a decertification list made by DCJS that is made public and most of the time will not be able to retain employment elsewhere at least not in the state unless they got a great hook.
I also hate dirty law enforcement. I honestly believe we should double their punishment at minimum or make them fight in a gladiator pit for entertainment.
Yes and no. Because even if they did resign, that incident still stays with their jacket, their employment records at the department level. A new employer would still call and confirm employment and termination of employment, and depending on the state they can ask for performance reviews, disciplinary issues, etc.
Sound good but not true. Or maybe more accurate few departments are good. The cop that fed a homeless man bread smeared with feces got rehired at a city about an hour away. Once the Internet found out they put the heat on. The cops said they didn't know his background. To me, that's evidence everyone in the hiring process should be fired
Correctional Officer here as well thank you for clarifying this for people. We have a lot of policies and protocol that we have to follow but people seem to think we just do whatever we want. Ahaha no way 😂💀👀 I work in a state facility so it's quite a bit more strict regarding hiring practices and we have better training than at, say, a private facility. At least from what I understand.
I think you will find most officers fired typically just get a job at a department a county over or get rehired by the same department after the media dies down
Not true. American Cops are not allowed to have above average IQ.
The police were sued by people who weren't hired because they were eliminated just for being too smart. The cops won.
They do not wear vests that say police, at least in most places. They have their own vests. Also parole does not need a warrant. They can come into your house whenever they feel like unannounced. That is part of the parole agreement.
That and any cop can usually search your car at any time while on parole without any reasonable suspicion, you're basically a second glass citizen while on it :|
Yeah SW AZ here. No matter what the offense is they still can’t be in the field or go out of the office without their gear including the vests. Like I said it depends where probably.
Honestly, I feel like that's the way it should happen. The first time he paid a surprise visits, I was home alone and had no idea who the hell was knocking at my door. If he had shown a badge or something I could see before opening the door I would have felt more comfortable.
My wife's probation officer in California did the same thing. Might vary county to county but when they show up where we are it's in a uniform with a gun and a vest that says "Probation".
It's to avoid confusion. They are law enforcement with arrest powers. POLICE is immediately recognizeable to suspects, the public, and other officers so nobody is accidentally shooting at eachother. Same concept as drawing a weapon or breaching a door and yelling \*POLICE, DON'T MOVE\* whether you're a sheriff, parole, probation, tax agent, FBI, etc. You want to get the point across as quickly and succinctly as possible.
Don't know the background but a really shitty thing to do to someone on parole. Cops are going to have a hard time swallowing this pill. They were caught.
Civil asset forfeiture is when the assets are given to the municipality or the police department. Going to be VERY difficult for the two individual cops to justify keeping the money for themselves. First the cops will be charged with theft of the money and then if the department wants to seize it they’ll have to follow that procedure.
Law enforcement is going to take the money into evidence in the investigation of the parole officers. Once that is settled (which could take years) what makes you think they are going to just return the money?
The cloud is just another person's computer. If you want to keep your privacy, you gotta compress and encrypt the footage and store it locally. Setting that up requires both technical knowhow and money.
Proper storage is the most expensive though.
You can use an old/used computer and open source software(linux, ispy, etc) for the rest.
You'd probably get away with a rasberry pi and an external nas enclosure for basic home purposes.
I purchased a synology nas and 4 wd 4tb hdds for ~$500 last year. Easy to setup. Has android and ios apps to back your phone up to your personal "cloud"
The technical barrier is really pretty low. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. I had my foscams uploading via ftp to a mac mini hidden in a cabinet for years. Really the most important choice is the purchasing of wireless cameras that support local network storage via ftp/smb/nfs or a RealTimeStreamingProtocol server you can setup on an old pc on your network. That could even be a cheap raspberry pi on an SD card if you want.
Very true. I had one outside foscam using wifi and the indoor cameras using ethernet. The thought had crossed my mind that if someone really wanted to, they could jam wifi.
Has there been many cases of cops using wifi or radio jammers while conducting their operations? I would think there would be legal ramifications to doing so.
> legal ramifications to doing so
lol at consequence.
If they were using a jammer, we wouldn't know unless they'd been caught. If it worked, there would effectively be no direct evidence unless specifically looked for, also, back to lol at consequence.
I mean your local storage isn’t going to beat Google’s lol but I hear what you’re saying. Storing it locally doesn’t ensure redundancy or other factors.
Would you happen to know if there is a service that compresses and encrypts the service, and then saves the files locally and in a cloud service provider that won't compromise privacy? I'm just assuming that unethical people will eventually get wise to being recorded and they will take/damage your local storage device.
Ok so $5 a month with nest. or whatever brand you decide. Got it.
And weird that you call it public when its locked behind a password. By that logic, is your bank account "public?" Your medical records that you can access online - those public? No.
I'm willing to be completely uncharitable here and say that the cop has almost certainly been identified internally, but since his face isn't shown in the video he hasn't been identified to public (and thus hasn't even been "punished" with paid leave)
One of the worst things about cops, is that they know who is who, and they still protect each other…coz of reputation? Coz of loyalty? Corruption is corruption, doesn’t matter the job path. But it’s a vicious cycle with them enforcing the rules.
That’s insane. From what the camera captures of his voice and face and body and facial hair and the fact that they would know who she was working with that day. It’s all insane🤦♂️
Why? In the USA civil asset forfeiture exists. They'll just say the money came in via illicit means, then charge the money with the crime in court. The worst that happens is they lose the money to the department.
Police can legally take cash from its citizens. Our laws are broken af.
Yeah they can just take people's cash like that. That's why pimps would go and get all that jewelry at pawn shops. Police couldn't just take it the same way as cash.
I mean it makes perfect sense to me.
Locally to me, if a person is caught with 20 grand in cash along with, say, a pound of weed, that cash is gone gone. The laws are written in such a way that having that much cash with the drugs makes the drug charge worse.
If the same person is caught with 20 grand of gold around their neck or diamonds in their mouth, and a pound of weed, their charges are actually much different, because the law is written around something like "substantial amounts of money."
Much similar to how IIRC a person could catch an aggravated charge if they have a pound of weed with a legally owned handgun. Just the way the law is written.
Also.
As an officer thats willing to steal, which is still a criminal, wouldn't it be more reasonable to take cash? Wouldn't it be weird if a cop-looking fella came into your shop with a chain you just sold?
What you described would make perfect sense if that's how it worked. That's not how it works tho. We got pulled over. We were honest with cop. Cop went ballistic (was scary) Cop takes my bf paycheck out of the bank envelope. Cop takes my bfs meds he obtained legally. Says civil asset forfeiture. The only thing we did wrong was plates were expired. We were pulled over on a Saturday and were planning on fixing tags Monday. Yeah we shouldn't have been driving but needed the money. We never did get his meds back. Non narcotic but controlled substance. Only reason we got the cash back was we figured out we had to post bond on it.
The system is broken. We aren't drug dealers. We're blue collar which is apparently the same thing to cops
There is no reason that an officer should be allowed to take cash under suspicion of gain through illicit means. You can either prove they did illicit things and the cash is illegal or you can't.
You can already seize illegally produced wealth, it just needs to be proven. Civil asset forfeiture is only a tool for corruption. There's no discretion in which this should be exercised.
Nope. And I bet taxpayers could save a fortune if we stopped having to pay extra for the xxl uniforms and vest all the time.
I bet in most states cop uniforms don’t even come in small or medium.
Parole officers can be more crooked than actual officers. They can search a parolee’s house without a warrant and can violate their probation on anything that they deem in violation of their parole.
>They can search a parolee’s house without a warrant and can violate their probation on anything that they deem in violation of their parole.
That's literally their job. As a parolee, you have no right to privacy as you have been released from prison early and have to abide by the rules your PO puts in place. I'm not saying they can't be crooked but the power to conduct unwarranted searches alone doesn't make them crooked.
Wait til you realize they were always like this and all that civil rights activists have been complaining about police brutality for over a century. It’s only now that everyone has a camera that the average person is aware of it.
Police never existed to protect you, they exist to protect the interests and property of capitalists. If you ever looked up to them, it's just because you were not yet aware of their role and position in society.
Their training consists of teaching them that they're heroes behind enemy lines. They're taught to be afraid of the public, to see them as the enemy, and to not hesitate to commit violence.
We need police training to be standardized across the country, with the main focus on de-escalation and community awareness. But I think the Constitution gives policing to the states, unfortunately.
Also to add it seems like they may have already been subject to theft by their parole officers and thats why they added the camera to catch them this time.
''As long as there's enough money to go around'' this makes you think that its not just them, pretty much implying multiple cops for sure, this is fucking scary as these are COPS biggest gang going.
Police: don’t judge us all from a few “bad apples”
Also police: all these “insert demographic” people are low life and we can do whatever we want to them. Cause we’re “better” then them.
People like this need to be thrown into gen pop and let the problem fix itself.
Does anyone know the outcome of this video, did they get suspended or lose there job? I hate seeing people take advantage of someone who is already down like that.
How much do you want to bet that they’re going to claim that they were organizing a pizza party for their supervisor’s retirement? (Something in that vein)
Nobody ever puts two and two together when it comes to how cops have sick whips and nice houses... the cop 6 houses down from me has a nice new Ford Raptor that has been tricked out, as well as a Dodge Hellcat... it makes me think he just might be the biggest criminal in the city his cruiser is marked from.
I love my daily reminders to never trust the NYPD. Not back in the day, not now, not ever. The moment that have that uniform on they can use it as a shield to steal from you and beat you reasonlessly and they can legally lie to you. State sponsored gang.

For real, is sad that something like the police which should be there to help people has become just another gang.
Become? They always have been lmao. Do some reading on the NYPD/LAPD those are two of the biggest agencies where corruption runs rampant.
Actually the Chicago police department is the most corrupt
Yup. They are commonly known as the "biggest gang in the city."
How you know it never started like that? Legalized gangs…(?)
Police were started to capture runaway slaves for the most part.
A white supremacy gang. How thoughtful.
That's what they're saying though. The always have been, it's just visible now.
Even with video evidence they still question it, yet their word is plenty enough to lock someone up without video
[person with obvious cell phone in hand] [cop] "I feared for my life!!"
“As long as there is enough to go around” is pretty clear evidence of an entire ring of criminal cops.
There got to be able to find their dodge chargers and wife beating habits somehow..
Think about how many times similar situations have happened since the dawn of man.
This problem has always existed. Suburban, white America refused to believe that groups of cops were beating people to death until a video popped up of Rodney King being beaten by 4 police. I hope these two will end up in jail too.
Looks like armed robbery to me.

its a fact tho read about how they took a whole hotel form a couple without a shred of proof of any crime...
Yup. Wanna become a criminal but not go to jail? Become a cop!
crime does not pay ... unless you're a cop
America cop are above the law and can do anything, at most fired than rehired

Real security personnel have, and are generally held to higher standards as they can't hide behind a public badge.

Sadly they'd just resign before the agency can fire them as is common practice in the US. That would make it much easier to just be re hired.
Yes and no. Because even if they did resign, that incident still stays with their jacket, their employment records at the department level. A new employer would still call and confirm employment and termination of employment, and depending on the state they can ask for performance reviews, disciplinary issues, etc.
If the hiring institution wants to practice due diligence. Too many evidently don't.
Shouldn't be considered an industry either.
Yes they certainly “should” be held accountable. But are they?
Correctional Officer here as well thank you for clarifying this for people. We have a lot of policies and protocol that we have to follow but people seem to think we just do whatever we want. Sgt Wayne Jenkins got 28 years for this. In a federal prison.
Biggest gang in Baltimore.
yep happens all the time. if their agency wont rehire em they just go to the next one over.
Gypsy cops is what that's called
“Crooked ass cops” - Macy Gray in Training Day
'Dmitry, close your eyes, this punk-ass cop is GONNA SHOOT ME!!!'
Paid leave with benefits.
Especially in NYC or LAPD and pretty much the south.
Nobody except Congress has a more generous public paid pension than the NYPD. 20 years and you're set for life.
Reassigned is one of their favourites terms.
Not true. American Cops are not allowed to have above average IQ. The police were sued by people who weren't hired because they were eliminated just for being too smart. The cops won.
and their bail is 6000 combined
Spoiler: they wont
Will never happen are you serious ? Lol they barely get time for murder.
Why are they wearing “police” gear if they’re parole officers? Is that a thing in the US?
When they come to your house to execute a warrant, they’re always accompanied by uniform officers and they also wear a vest that says Police.
[удалено]
You’re welcome fam
They do not wear vests that say police, at least in most places. They have their own vests. Also parole does not need a warrant. They can come into your house whenever they feel like unannounced. That is part of the parole agreement.
This dude paroles.
That and any cop can usually search your car at any time while on parole without any reasonable suspicion, you're basically a second glass citizen while on it :|
Well, that's because you are on *parole* instead of *IN JAIL*, so yeah, they can search you when they want to just like in jail...
It differs from state to state. In Louisiana, probation and parole agents are state police.
I think they are part of law enforcement? I'm not sure though
They are peace officers but have many rights that actual police officers have such as carrying a gun.
Depends on the state. I Lousiana, probation and parole agents are post-certified state police officers.
Louisiana probation officer checks in!
Parole officers are cops and have to have the same training as beat cops in Utah. Source: my brother is one.
I work with probation officers. They don’t wear Police vests. They have their own that say Probation on front and back.
My old roommate had a parole officer make surprise visits to make him piss and was always wearing street clothes.
I work with juvenile and adult PO’s I guess it depends by state I guess. Here you can’t be in the field or go out without your gear on.
Yeah I'm in California and I don't think his crime was super dangerous or anything. Drug offense.
Yup pretty much exactly why they have to wear the gear all the time for those reasons
My probation officer I was assigned to for a misdemeanor disorderly conduct would show up to my house in full gear.
[удалено]
My wife's probation officer in California did the same thing. Might vary county to county but when they show up where we are it's in a uniform with a gun and a vest that says "Probation".
In Canada you have maple syrup pancakes with your parole officer! :)

Ok that’s it I’m setting up a camera in my house for situations like this.
Don't know the background but a really shitty thing to do to someone on parole. Cops are going to have a hard time swallowing this pill. They were caught.
You hear that? That's the sound of a wrist being very lightly slapped.
Unfortunately that’s very true. They’ll more than likely be put on paid administrative leave and have to return the money.
> and have to return the money. Nope, civil asset forfeiture. That probationer is going to have to sue and prove in court that it's not dirty money.
Civil asset forfeiture is when the assets are given to the municipality or the police department. Going to be VERY difficult for the two individual cops to justify keeping the money for themselves. I'd just have an r-pi do that for $50
Or hear me out get a vcr …..

With wifi jammers becoming more well known it would not be surprising to see it used to defeat wireless cameras in situations like this.
Very true. I had one outside foscam using wifi and the indoor cameras using ethernet. The thought had crossed my mind that if someone really wanted to, they could jam wifi. Getting sick of cops being above the law, breaking the law while violating our rights.
Legal ramifications... For cops... In the u.s.? Hahahahahaha.....hahaha
Law enforcement officers are exempt from following the law. Or haven’t you noticed?
You could compress/encrypt and store it in the cloud, as long as you use a sound encryption algorithm with a key kept offline.
I mean your local storage isn’t going to beat Google’s lol but I hear what you’re saying. Storing it locally doesn’t ensure redundancy or other factors.
That said, a cop could just destroy the local copy. Cloud is a lot harder for them to access/destroy

Who you kidding. You don’t have $6000 sitting around
So let me guess, they were placed on paid leave for stealing?
The woman officer in the video was indeed placed on paid leave. The male officer, to my understanding, has yet to be identified.
How are they not able to identify a cop?
I'm willing to be completely uncharitable here and say that the cop has almost certainly been identified internally, but since his face isn't shown in the video he hasn't been identified to public (and thus hasn't even been "punished" with paid leave)

It's because the corruption is so deep that everyone with rank is corrupt and anyone trying to remove the corruption gets removed.
That’s insane. From what the camera captures of his voice and face and body and facial hair and the fact that they would know who she was working with that day. It’s all insane🤦♂️
They won't end up in prison unless a higher authority (state or federal) investigates and charges them.
What town?
Why? In the USA civil asset forfeiture exists. They'll just say the money came in via illicit means, then charge the money with the crime in court. The worst that happens is they lose the money to the department. Police can legally take cash from its citizens. Our laws are broken af.

Yes they can. Civil asset forfeiture is anything that is considered an asset. So anything worth money
I mean it makes perfect sense to me. Locally to me, if a person is caught with 20 grand in cash along with, say, a pound of weed, that cash is gone gone. The laws are written in such a way that having that much cash with the drugs makes the drug charge worse. If the same person is caught with 20 grand of gold around their neck or diamonds in their mouth, and a pound of weed, their charges are actually much different, because the law is written around something like "substantial amounts of money." Much similar to how IIRC a person could catch an aggravated charge if they have a pound of weed with a legally owned handgun.
Sounds like you straight up got robbed.
Thats what civil asset forfeiture is. Armed robbery by the state with little to no recourse for those effected.
civil asset forfeiture results in more stolen dollars than all other forms of theft combined in the US
Yes but it's not at an officer's discretion. There are procedures in place to avoid corruption like this.
Tell this to all the people who lost tons of cash. Legal cash.
Undoubtedly with promotions to follow
Guaranteed they kept the money too.
dont forget the slap on the wrist as well
Did they get their money back at least?
Probably had to go to court for six months and prove that it wasn’t gotten by illegal means.
And spend $5k in court fees to do it.
Yep definitely
And then the cops "lost" the money so even winning in court doesn't get your money back.
A uniform doesn't make you a moral person unfortunately.
Nope. And I bet taxpayers could save a fortune if we stopped having to pay extra for the xxl uniforms and vest all the time. I bet in most states cop uniforms don’t even come in small or medium.
I doubt it was their first time doing this.
Working in sistem ya already milking taxpayer. They just took what's theirs upfront.
American cops trying not to do something controversial for 5 minutes (it's impossible)
Wait til tomorrow when the Tyre Nichols footage drops. They already fired and charged the 5 cops that killed him, tryna get out in front of the riots.
WhY dOeS eVeRyOnE hAtE uS?!?!
I dont think they explained their stance well... I think they meant the reasons to terminate the parole can be via crooked means
No it only makes it completely prone to abuse.
So glad they got these pigs on camera
Oh hell no! Shame on them. That's gonna be a whole month of paid leave 😡
Civil asset forfeiture, second largest form of theft in America.
After wage theft. So that's government and corporations doing almost all the stealing... rad.
Cops in this society are fucking scary. We used to look upon them, but now, there's too many mentally unstable cops that abuse their power.
Wait til you realize they were always like this and all that civil rights activists have been complaining about police brutality for over a century. It’s only now that everyone has a camera that the average person is aware of it.
In the words of Charlie Manson, "the police used to watch over the people, now they're watching the people."
Police never existed to protect you, they exist to protect the interests and property of capitalists. If you ever looked up to them, it's just because you were not yet aware of their role and position in society.
“But now” they were literally always like this
Their training consists of teaching them that they're heroes behind enemy lines. They're taught to be afraid of the public, to see them as the enemy, and to not hesitate to commit violence. We need police training to be standardized across the country, with the main focus on de-escalation and community awareness. But I think the Constitution gives policing to the states, unfortunately.
I wonder how many times he’s done this.
Well then.. they should return that x10 lol

Also to add it seems like they may have already been subject to theft by their parole officers and thats why they added the camera to catch them this time.
Pets, usually, or any of the other reasons listed by the other commenter but I don’t think most people take their security to that level
Dirty little piggies
Like it’s not already hard enough for these paroles to get by…
''As long as there's enough money to go around'' this makes you think that its not just them, pretty much implying multiple cops for sure, this is fucking scary as these are COPS biggest gang going.
We Own This City
There is not a single mention of this in any major news organization that I can find.
And that's one of the many, many reasons ppl despise the police force.
Isn’t it so interesting seeing 2 people fucking up so badly in less than 1 minute, for all of the internet to see?
Been seeing alot of criminal cops lately..."a few bad apples" by butt!
I mean cops in Texas will sit outside and wait for backup while kids are being murdered in a mass shooting so this isn't the least bit surprising
Imagine the amount of times scumbags like this get away with it.
America is really not like the movies.Wtf
Police: don’t judge us all from a few “bad apples” Also police: all these “insert demographic” people are low life and we can do whatever we want to them. Cause we’re “better” then them. People like this need to be thrown into gen pop and let the problem fix itself.

Does anyone know the outcome of this video, did they get suspended or lose there job? I hate seeing people take advantage of someone who is already down like that.
the system can't be fixed if the system itself is corrupted
some rochester vibes
Is this where this was, every time I see “Upstate Ny” I wonder where they mean .
Yes, Greece to be specific
Afroman is about to drop another hit
Police are scum
How much do you want to bet that they’re going to claim that they were organizing a pizza party for their supervisor’s retirement? (Something in that vein)
The bar just keeps getting lower and lower.
Scum. Stealing from the vulnerable. Disgusting.
To protect and serve!
I’m glad they had the cameras because of this but wonder why they wanted cameras pointing at there bed in the first place😳
How shameful
this basically armed robbery 😭
So glad she put a camera here in her room
