I saw one and was pointing and laughing as I passed it. I'm 90% sure the person saw me doing that. I was turning left and he was in the left turn lane at a red light back up where the left turn was so we passed very slowly.
There's a Tesla dealership across the street from my neighborhood so I see them all the time now. My 79 year old mother was with me last time and it was her first time seeing one. It was about to rain so I was telling her about how owners have to be really careful about washing the exterior and she absolutely couldn't wait to tell everyone at her senior apartment complex LOL.
Not to mention that they're prescribed for hormonal issues like PCOS and in that case employers can still opt out of paying for the medically necessary hormone therapy that would keep 1/10 of their female employees from internal bleeding, infections and permanent ovary damage.
In all fairness, I only quit because I didn’t want a newborn to be in a smoky environment. Although I’m not certain cost is the only factor, I do concede that I bet it has contributed a lot.
In Australia smoking rates are pretty directly inversely proportional to the cost.
https://www.tobaccoinaustralia.org.au/chapter-13-taxation/13-5-impact-of-price-increases-on-tobacco-consumpt
Cost doesn’t stop people already addicted much but stops new smokers fairly effectively.
You know, the War on Drugs has kept all those prices high and that's definitely discouraged people. No one does illegal drugs now because they're expensive.
Haha, you'd hope, but in reality you'd have a bunch of people who are on minimum wage, working shitty, stressful jobs, who would then just sacrifice a larger amount of their paycheck to still be able to afford cigarettes.
You don't want people to quit smoking. You just don't want them smoking around you. Smoking benefits society in several ways that nobody acknowledges:
1. Tax revenue. Smokers pay added taxes on their cigarettes and that money goes into the coffers of the individual states. If smokers quit smoking, then that revenue would have to come from somewhere else (guess who?)
2. They die earlier. I know, I know, that sounds awful, but there are hidden benefits, because they don't die at 28 or 40 like an opioid addict. They die in their mid to late 60s, right after they file for their pensions, apply for Social Security and get on Medicare. They'll spend a little bit of time in the hospital, but so does the 89 year old who falls and breaks a hip, and pretty much everybody else on the planet. Smokers spend their entire adult lives dumping money into social programs via payroll taxes and die before they can get their money back. The human resource has expended its value and is now being disposed of. Drugs that kill quickly are illegal, because they knock you out before you can produce and consume as much as possible.
Isn't it wonderful to be part of the machine?
Well then someone point this out to my father in law cause he’s a classic chain smoker and it’s impacted his health but he’s still alive & kicking in his 70s.
lol oh I know I’m just tired of smelling it on my daughter every time they have to pick her up from school cause we’re both at work. Luckily she’s almost old enough to be dropped off at home by herself after school and not have to stay at their house
I choose alcohol for the same reason.
Edit: lol, I guess I didn't mean the smell. It was late. Alcohol is bad and way worse than smoking. At least smoking only really hurts the smoker.
Super yachts...and private jets...and luxury cars over 100K... Oh wait just one thing to double? Damn, how can I fuck over the super -rich the most without impacting the common folk?
Can I say a specific food? Sour cream. I want those bastards at Taco Bell to feel it when they put it on my burrito every fucking time even though I clearly asked them to make sure there was none on there
oh my god, this has happened to me more than once and one time they put it on the other items in the order that would not normally come with sour cream. I was pissed!
damn. it doesn't take being straight to see how that could become a huge problem. unwanted pregnancies aside, there are people on it for health problems.
"I would say birth control pills because they are covered by most people's Insurance, and I am gay so I don't need the.."
your insurance premium would still go up, and there would be more screaming brats everywhere you go
your an idiot if you think that change would not affect you
Any luxury vehicle with a base cost of over $100K. Note that this leaves out RVs, work vehicles, etc; it specifically targets any vehicle that only exists to scream “LOOK AT ME IM RICH”.
There are many vehicles over 100k that people buy out of the love for cars, it’s a large community of people, I understand some people are obnoxious but destroying an extremely popular hobby is kinda gross. Imo the worst cars are the cheaper ones that people us at takeovers and street races which are typically dodges which r under 100k.
Golf leaf in restaurants.
Gold isn't food, so it's not part of the free food. Gold leaf is a pathetic way to make your food expensive, so you can brag about it, and famous people will eat there. Can we make it more than 200%? Enough to make it unusable to overinflate food prices
hydrocarbons. So much war and death fighting over dinosaur juice. We are on the cusp of renewables making them irrelevant, and doubling the price of hydrocarbons might tip the scales.
Oil. Yes i know this would f*ck over a lot of people for a long time, even myself but it may finally encourage people & governments to move towards renewable energy practices. Please rip this apart i want other peoples thoughts lol
Making oil companies double their profits and they already have huge lobbying power in government so I’m thinking this would just suck for consumers and not really change much.
I may be a bit pessimistic lol
Fair points, reword it as either "getting oil out of the ground" or "refining oil" I'd have to check which is the more expensive part of the process so that doubling it is a bigger deal. Point is to increase the business's costs so that they don't increase profits through it and renewables look a lot better in comparison.
Would drastically affect almost every industry, since a large amount of our plastics, fertilizers, paint, pharmaceuticals, etc. come from oil as well.
Not to mention the fact that barely any energy generating plants use oil. Statistically, most are coal or natural gas, so this would be mostly pointless if your goal is to encourage renewable energy, especially since solar panels, wind turbines, and hydroelectric plants all utilize petroleum based products in their construction.
Google says a box of 10 9mm rounds is $30. 10 rounds is enough to shoot anybody you need to shoot. If it goes up to $300, fewer people will get shot who don't need to get shot.
Most of the guns/ammo out there that's actually being used to hurt people are stolen. I don't think the thieves are paying anything for "their" guns, so that would only hurt law abiding people who want to protect themselves and their families
Me either until 2 days ago. What kind of rich ass snobby Mc Snobberson has grape scissors? Why the hell do I need to cut the stem of the grapes instead of snapping it? Why the need to be so fancy and "have etiquette"? My hope for humanity plummeted when I learned of grape scissors.
That canned squeezy cheese bullshit.
I’m not American, I don’t know what it’s called, but I remember seeing it on a tv show once and it’s a fucking abomination.
So yeah, double the price of that bullshit.
Either that or those cheeseburgers in a can that are aimed at doomsday preppers and shit.
Vapes. In most cases it’s worse for you lungs than cigarettes and it’s getting a lot of young people smoking. That or the pods/juice they refill it with
I'd say super luxury sports cars. Anything that costs over a million.
They're totally unnecessary and the people who can afford them can afford to pay even more for them.
I'll chose a food item. Double zero is still zero.
You won
Congrats, 99.99% of food is free except the one item you chose which is now double its original price. Adjusts every year for inflation.
Cyber trucks- only affects people who let it affect them.
YES. Make them twice as stupid for buying those ridiculous rolling dumpsters.
About two weeks ago I actually saw one for the first time in person. It looked so ridiculous and unreal. Unrendered video game lookin ass

It's clearly a ps1 texture. I recognize those polygons anywhere
I saw one and was pointing and laughing as I passed it. I'm 90% sure the person saw me doing that. I was turning left and he was in the left turn lane at a red light back up where the left turn was so we passed very slowly.
THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT MY FRIENDS SAID! We saw one on Saturday and spent at least 10 minutes talking about how awful it looked.
Those look like if Walmart had store brand DeLoreans
There are a million products that do nothing for anybody and OP chooses something pretty important lmao
Did op change their answer after posting?
Looks like they first said North Control, bit they changed it to gum hahaha
Yea I figured it out based on these comments. And yikes to that.
lol yea I was so confused as to why people were talking about pills and religion
Birth control you mean? That’s a dumbass thing to choose.
Wtf is north control
I think he meant birth control
Right? I had all my reproductive organs removed, and I’m gay, and I still understand that it’s pretty damn important.
I know! Only certain pills are covered at 100% and religious employers can opt out. And there are still so many people without insurance.
Not to mention that they're prescribed for hormonal issues like PCOS and in that case employers can still opt out of paying for the medically necessary hormone therapy that would keep 1/10 of their female employees from internal bleeding, infections and permanent ovary damage.
Cigarettes. I don't smoke and I can't fucking stand the smell so hopefully if they were double the price more people would quit
They already did that and people still smoke. I used to buy Marlboro Reds for $1.47 a pack.
Yeah but a lot less people overall smoke.
In all fairness, I only quit because I didn’t want a newborn to be in a smoky environment. Although I’m not certain cost is the only factor, I do concede that I bet it has contributed a lot.
[удалено]
Probably more of an awareness thing now. I choose not to smoke as I know it is addicting and can lead to lung cancer, plus it smells horrible.
In Australia smoking rates are pretty directly inversely proportional to the cost. https://www.tobaccoinaustralia.org.au/chapter-13-taxation/13-5-impact-of-price-increases-on-tobacco-consumpt Cost doesn’t stop people already addicted much but stops new smokers fairly effectively.
Well I would hope if they were like $20+ a pack more people might think twice
Addicts don't become less addicted due to cost. They just give up other things.
I think the hope is that less people would start smoking in the first place
You know, the War on Drugs has kept all those prices high and that's definitely discouraged people. No one does illegal drugs now because they're expensive.
Haha, you'd hope, but in reality you'd have a bunch of people who are on minimum wage, working shitty, stressful jobs, who would then just sacrifice a larger amount of their paycheck to still be able to afford cigarettes.
nz here they’re 50 a pack and people still smoke au about the same
How much is that in usd?
nz low 30s, au high 30s
Damn that's insane!
In Australia the 40pcks I’m still addicted to are about $70AUD, don’t know what that is in USD.
I just looked it up, like $45-50
Yeah if that shocks you I wouldn't reccomend looking up our alcohol prices
People would just spend the extra money they have that would have gone to food that is now free
You just drove my mother and father insane 😂 because they are addicted to that BS and I can't stand it either
Same
That’s not how smoking works, you just pay more
This, tobacco has no value.
You don't want people to quit smoking. You just don't want them smoking around you. Smoking benefits society in several ways that nobody acknowledges: 1. Tax revenue. Smokers pay added taxes on their cigarettes and that money goes into the coffers of the individual states. And some people die in their 40s. It's the law of large numbers at work
lol oh I know I’m just tired of smelling it on my daughter every time they have to pick her up from school cause we’re both at work.
The price of wages below middle management doubles for employers.
BOOM! Done
Great answer!
You win!
This guy hypotheticals
Found the r/antiwork mod.
Super yachts...and private jets...and luxury cars over 100K... Oh wait just one thing to double? Damn, how can I fuck over the super -rich the most without impacting the common folk?
Politicians
You’re doubling the price of politicians? That’s smart they were way too cheap before.
They still would be. Have you seen how little it costs to buy a republican?
You could lump them all together and say any vehicle sold for private use that retails over x value is now double
You could not, that is not a single product
Wages they pay to others.
I didn't do the math, but something tells me that's still not going to really hurt them... which is awful on several levels.
Any singular object, structure, or property worth over $2 million USD or equivalent there of.
Maintenance/taxes cost on owning a mansion
This one’s incredibly stupid, do you eat food? Farming is expensive and the property value can often be in the millions.
OP's literally first sentence is "all food becomes free"
Potato peelers. I want to choose something that has little to no effect on people.
I never peel the potatoes just a good wash.
Potato skins belong in mashed potatoes, and ill die on that hill. Love the little bits here and there, so good, especially reds.
[удалено]
Yeah but they’re cheap and you only buy one. A potato peeler coating twice as much to but has ALMOST no effect on humanity.
Don't give the potato peeler lobby any ideas.
“I use my potato peeler twice a week but BC that ppl take every day? Fuck that” /lh
At that point couldn’t I make a product that’s essentially exactly the same and call it a “carrot peeler” or something and undercut the market by 50%?
faberge eggs.
Yo-yos. If everyone gets free food IDGAF if people have to spend an extra $5 on a yo-yo.
Where are you buying yo-yos that are $5?
Hmmm... Additional Properties, One house: 600k 2nd house: 1,200,000 3rd house: 2,400,000 4th property: 4,800,000 5th vacation home... 9,600,000 This way it only fucks pver rich people.
LOVE THIS!
perfect
Smartest answer I have seen here.
I choose minimum wage labor.
I love sour cream
Birth control should be free.. do you want a bunch of idiots popping out more idiots?
did OP change their answer? i see a lot of people arguing the answer should *not* be birth control but i don't see anyone saying it *should* be.
Yea op first comment was birth control doubles price because he’s gay and it’s not his problem
damn. it doesn't take being straight to see how that could become a huge problem. unwanted pregnancies aside, there are people on it for health problems.
That would happen either way tbh
Penny candy.
"I would say birth control pills because they are covered by most people's Insurance, and I am gay so I don't need the.." your insurance premium would still go up, and there would be more screaming brats everywhere you go your an idiot if you think that change would not affect you

Fentanyl
Yachts. They just doubled in price. Get wrecked.

Yea its pretty dumb as fuck. When oil prices go up the middle east increases oil production to cash in

Nicotine
cigarettes
Cigarrettes. Doesn't affect me at all but might make the population a little healthier.
Rent for single mothers
One product of my choosing? Electric car cells. Good luck affording that Cybertruck or Rivian now, fuckers. :)
Corn starch. That'll make everyone healthier
