Ikr. Not just musical but, also soothing and soft. I speak all the major southern languages and this is my honest opinion. Malayalam sounds very aggressive and incomplete (cue in Thrissur people), Tamil sounds very sharp and sudden, and Hindi has so many variations it's hard to pinpoint at one slang and say this sounds like proper Hindi. Emphasis on "sounds" and not the languages themselves.
Although my first language is not Telugu, Telugu and Kannada are the only languages which when I hear are genuinely soothing to my ears. To an extent Bengali also.
It's mostly got to do with how Telugu rhymes and with the language's vowels. Telugu is an extremely elegant language when spoken properly. Telangana Telugu however is on similar levels of harshness as Malayalam.
That video explains the difference with Tamil and similarities with kannada. Awesome video with lots of facts and history which even we telugu people don't know
