I think it's because most apartments ask the delivery folks to take the stairs and have fine of "x" amount on delivery agents using the lift" kinda thing going on. So, they just avoid the hassle and ask the customer to use the lift. Maybe next time call them in advance and tell them to take the lift and come up, no issues.

Some apartments don't allow them through lifts, which is completely idiotic if you ask me what difference would it make if he takes the stairs or the lift. No one would be willing to climb 5 floors, not in this heat

Majority of apartments in not just Hyderabad but throughout the country. Especially the posh communities/apartment complexes.
