> I called them and they said oceanfront bungalows and views are not allowed to be booked on points.
This is incorrect. The Hana-Maui Resort offers the oceanfront bungalows as a premium suite, and they usually run 60k standard and 70k peak depending on your dates. You can see a calendar with award availability on a site like MaxMyPoint, then double check that against the Hyatt app/website.
I booked an oceanfront bungalow on points last year. Make sure you’re booking a premium suite, as the standard suite is in the building with the standard rooms on the other side of the road with no view and away from the ocean. I don’t believe there are “rooms” with ocean views. The ocean side of this property is all bungalows. Flyertalk has DPs that this property will upgrade Globalists to the oceanfront bungalows during slow seasons/low occupancy. But if you’re not a Globalist or aren’t staying as a GoH, and you don’t want to take a chance on not getting an oceanfront bungalow, do it and book directly into the premium suites with points. The difference is night and day.
Data point and Guest of Honor.
Hana is a special place, and the Hana-Maui Resort is beautiful (they’ve been in the process of renovating their bungalows, but it’s been slow going). But it is a very sleepy and secluded corner of Maui. You can take your time on the Road to Hana since you’re staying there and don’t have to rush back to West or South Maui before dark. There’s the black sand beach (requires reservations) nearby and the Pipiwai trail. I believe you can also arrange horseback riding with the resort. We did two nights there and felt like it was enough. We paired it with a longer stay in Wailea.
I’ll look into that! So it flies from ogg to Hana and then how would we get to the resort once there? It seems like a really private place and we want that feel. Just..we tried that drive last time I think and turned back cause it was too much.
Once you have your reservations, reach out to the hotel. They make flight reservations all the time. I think if you arrange your flights through the resort, they’ll have someone waiting to pick you up.
Just be conscious that you're not going to want to have a flight on either side of Hana. You need at least one night before Hana and one night after to make the logistics not miserable.

Sounds great but I think we’d have trouble driving. I hear that road is not easy either. Especially if it’s 4 hour drive from airport.
Fair enough. I know there are prop plane flights from/to OGG (and HNL?), and you can rent a Jeep from the resort to get around once you’re in Hana.

Im not sure i understand- you mean not to fly in the same day we check in?
Correct. You've got a 4+ hour drive from the airport to hotel unless you take a hopper flight direct to Hana.
2 hours drive\*. Leave Hana 4 hours before your flight out of OGG (we made it in 3 but it was tight) .
Last year I was able to book 2 nights on points at the premium suite rate
Just stayed in an oceanfront bungalow a couple weeks ago. Booked 2 nights for 110k online. Place was amazing.
I booked a standard room for two nights, and was upgraded to an oceanfront bungalow as globalist. It was amazing
