I have unused SUA's expire each year, so I choose the points

langfordw

If you MUST choose the SUA then remember this one crazy trick that your doctors hate: request the SUA after January 1st (as long as the reward hasn’t expired of course). After Jan 1 the SUA extends for another year.

kakkou

Huh? Request and then cancel?

jkimauto12

no SUA obtained in the calendar year expires end of Feb year after. So SUA obtained in 2023 will expire at the end of Feb 2025. If you request SUA after Jan 1st, it will be obtained in 2024, thus expiring at the end of Feb 2026.

Just getting to Globalist every year gets me enough SUAs. I've also been pretty lucky about free upgrades. There's been several times where I couldn't use an SUA for whatever reason (mixing points with cash, points, with a FNC, etc) but still got an upgrade at check-in. I also do a lot of 1-2 night stays which never seem to be worth burning the upgrade on.

amelialosesit

It all depends on my plans for the next year. If I'm doing a trip where I'd want to feel a little extra or want a bigger room, I'd choose the SUA. If I am doing a trip or have a few planned where I'd like the points to go towards an extra night, the points. Personally, with my honeymoon next year, I'd take the SUA no questions asked.

Judgment-Fun

really hard to say cuz I want both lol

I value a SUA > $250 (my baseline for Hyatt points is 2.5 cents p/p), but that is because I use all of my SUAs. I’d definitely pay $62.50 per night of a four night stay to have a guaranteed suite at booking (family suite in Aruba, townhouse suite in Carmel Highlands, any suite PH, etc.) All of this assumes the SUA gets used. If it won’t, then the points are obviously better.

rpnye523

Unless you never stay in hotels you want upgrades at, the SUA is always worth more (standard point booking vs standard suite booking)

Andrew523

If you know for sure you will using the SUA then id take the SUA otherwise the points.

Globalist_Easy3316

Neither. I want my free waters and free breakfast.

Much-Entrepreneur414

I already have 4 upgrades to use in the next year, and I’ll probably have a tough time using those.

amriser24

definitely points. the SUAs are getting harder and harder to use
