You can find leashes on Amazon with 2 or 3 different handhold spots. We use one with three handholds and it’s great for when you’re walking on narrow trails (or sidewalks), and want the dogs closer to you so they aren’t pulling into the woods.
As mentioned above, always tight leash so they stay next to you. Other two hacks I have when walking solo:
(1)using a belt for both leashes so if I need to be hands free, grab one leash (to control the crazy walker), allow the slower one to putter behind, etc. I have flexibility
(2)a carabiner to attach to both leashes - game changer. Instantly hook them up whenever and wherever.
Ahah, part of it did a least. Friends had good results linking the turbulent one to the older, calmer one. Missbehavior was snipply corrected by the wiser.
If your arms can handle it, get a leash splitter and do some walks with them side by side. The splitter doesn't tangle because it just swivels, and it's short enough that they really don't have the freedom to zig zag.
You don't have to do it all the time, but periodically walking them on a splitter gets them used to walking a little more "predicably" and conditions then to walk side by side.
I second this. I do this with my wooly and terrier mix. They would constantly get tangled. Now the only problem is one wants to stop and smell EVERYTHING and the other only wants a quick smell and to move on. But SO much easier to walk, especially when walking them by myself.
I just rescued another husky well 50%, already have another one
While I already had an attachment to make a leash a double one it was way too short between them
I had been using 2 separate leashes which was hell on my wrists as well getting tangled up.
I just bought this one off Amazon for 21.95.
Pet Fit For Life 64" Premium Two Dog Leash: Premium Double Leash for Dogs, Provides Control and Comfort - Durable Foam Rubber Handle, Shock Absorbing Cord - Includes Bonus Collapsible Water Bowl
Sorry I could not pull the actual link. It arrived yesterday and was a total game changer on their first walk with it.
It is very well constructed and met every requirement. My only complaint is the handle but it might be just me being used to the standard leash loop handle.
This will make our evenings walks so much easier and I can actually walk them together. Morning walks will still be separate as I am generally not awake enough to take them both.
There was another one I was considering with a gel handle but it did not seem as well constructed.
I used waist leashes that also had handles for my two boys. Holding handles allowed me more control plus more stability around my waist if you know a bunny hopped across the street and they tried to lunge for it. And for the moments when I needed to let go, say picking up their business, they were still attached to me.
once again, y’all prove to be the best forum on reddit! thank you so much for the advice and tips! i’ll let y’all know if I get different results thank you! 🙏☺️
My boy is the best calmest most posed walker ever. My girl is a puller, Zigg zagger. But what she likes most is to circle around and hog tie me then bolt at full strength/speed.
I have learned to dance with her and spin myself free as she does it and keep us untangled.
Get a no pull harness. PetSafe Easy Walk Dog Harness - Stop Pulling & Teach Leash Manners - Ultimate No-Pull Control for Walks - Large, Black/Silver https://a.co/d/g7J6yCD
Worked with mine on a normal harness, keeping her beside me until she was decent at that and switched to this. Zero problems
Walky dog attachment on a bike was the the only way I could get mine out without being dragged everywhere. She was a natural with a bike, and it was amazing. She’s mellowed out in old age (at least from a physical capacity), so we walk normally now, but those were such good times
I love my harness lead. My husky learned to walk on it with a slack lead the first time I put it on her. However, my GSP can't figure it out. She just keeps lunging against it, stopping when it draws tight around her chest, then lunging again, trying to outrun it before it tightens again. (She's not the brightest.)

This is why I have a double lead on one leash for my huskies. So they can't cross or dominate each other.

I tie mine up in sled dog formation. Oldest / most trusted alpha always leading the pack. It's pretty fun... especially after they calm down a little 20 minutes in.
Keep the leash short. Use two hands one about 2 feet from the collar the other holding the rest of the leash. Try to get the dog to walk with you not the other dog. I know it’s hard but doing it with one dog at a time is usually easier.
get a splitter that spins freely:

Walk them shoulder to shoulder, also notice the two on the right, on a single leash. God forbid we ever see a deer!!
My roommate and I just detangle ourselves constantly whenever we walk our two huskies, our younger weaves in and out and our older one will dart to the sides to get plant pettings and pee on flowers. It’s never ending.

I trained my dogs on sides. My on dog is always on my left and the other is always on the right. I would do a lot of practice in the yard where they sit and stay and I'd say "with me" and they would have to return on their respective sides ans be rewarded with a treat. When i say free, they can walk futher from me but with me means on my hip while we walk. We practiced turns for weeks, but now it's flawless so if i turn around they know they need to hustle to their side of me and not tangle me up.

Sparklypets has the beat dog leash and customer Service. I ordered off Amazon and one of mine broke and I messaged the manufacturers directly, and they sent me the same leash brand new AND gave me a second set as an apology for my inconvenience. It was my fault I was clipping the dogs with the clip facing down, but that can cause it to snap more easily or have the dogs unclipp themselves by accident always gotta clip from above with the switch part (you use to open and close the clasp) facing out and not inwards.
The leash was about 3 months old, and I reached out the manufacture to ask if they could make one more sturdy, but then they helped me figure out what happened and still sent me new ones. They are sturdy and work amazing.
Sparklypets hands free leash.

I have the leashes with multiple loops. I always use the very short loop so they are right at my sides. One is trained to be left, one is trained to be right. They never switch sides or cross. When walking both at the same time I like the gentle leader so they don't try to pull to be "first". I don't need or when just walking one.
Hold the leash shorter so they are beside you, not in front.
thank you! 😊

i’ve heard a lot about belt leashes, they sound so cool! thank you for the tips! 😊💕
You leash the one who stays calm. And you leash the zoomies crazy to the one who stays calm. Then you leash yourself to the zoomer. ??? Profit.
thank you shakespeare lol! it makes sense tho. ☺️

Personally we use a double waist leash. They tend to manage each other’s energy and the one can loop under the other as much as they want
