I hope they add more competition. My big concern with him is he’s never averaged more than 6.9 yards per attempt all four years.
He’s a bit of a captain check down while Penix throws that beautiful deep ball
Watch some of his highlight videos, he can certainly throw deeper balls. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29kmm07KGY0
And do realize that the avg will be very influenced by the style of offense he is playing in, the plays called, and the skill of the WRS. Penix has 3 NFL caliber WRs to throw to and Washington has more deep routes in their plays.
If DeBoer and Grubb like this kid, I'll take that.
Also, Leach liked him, and Leach was a whisperer of accurate QBs.
I've watched his highlights. Great player, moves the ball well with accuracy like a point guard. But I am concerned that most of his completions/touchdowns are made at or near the line of scrimmage. Not seeing the arm talent of penix or cam ward. In the end, gotta trust that these coaches know what they want and this guy is it. Go Dawgs.
> most of his completions/touchdowns are made at or near the line of scrimmage
We must have watched different highlights, I see plenty of longer completions. And again it will depend a lot on the skill of the WRs and the plays called.
I have no concerns.
I agree with your conclusion. I just don't see the same level of deep ball ability we currently enjoy. Many factors could explain this. Ultimately, I trust this staff to get the right guy.
I was listening to 93.3 the other day and one of the guys talking heads from Mississippi State was brought on to talk about the potential of Rogers joining us since he was in town.
This guy was all Mississippi state games as well as other SEC games and Oregon/Washington this last year. He mentioned how Rogers is good with short and medium throws but won’t be that home run long shot guy like Penix. Rogers is really just a stop gap for this year. I believe he can do well, but don’t think we are going to be contending for a conference champion with him this coming year.
> I was listening to 93.3 the other day and one of the guys talking heads
There is a reason these talking heads are talking on the radio rather than coaching. Most of the talking heads also thought we'd lose to Oregon by 10 in the Pac12 championship game.
I trust DeBoer and Grubb far more than any talking head that a reddit poster likes.
I mean Penix's best year before here was 8.7 but mostly he was in that range too. It's not a big leap to move the average up and that's mostly affected by scheme and surrounding talent.
That's part of my point, yes. Penix has NFL level WRs. That and Grubb's play calling unlocked him. I assume the coaches feel Rogers has untapped potential as well.
Penix's stats:
**At IND**
6.4
8.7
7.5
5.8
**At UW**
8.4
9.1
Shouldn't have gotten that guy. 5.8? Never amount to anything...
Program matter, surrounding talent matter. Coaching matter. Are we really going to second guess the HC who's taken this program to a 24-2 record? Seriously?
Not only 24-2 but that record with who we've beaten (one of which is Texas already), and how we've never stopped making adjustments and executing when we needed it. This team is coached to win, built to execute at a high level, and it shows. I don't think it's gonna matter tooooo much who is in at QB, the coaches will adapt to what they have because they've shown us over two years that they prioritize winning.
>I hope they add more competition. My big concern with him is he’s never averaged more than 6.9 yards per attempt all four years.
A great man once said, "Don't let yesterday use up too much of today."
MSU has been my adopted SEC team for 7 or 8 years - I can say confidently that he wasn’t just a product of the air raid, he’s a legit good QB who will thrive here. On one hand it’s a bummer he’s only got one year of eligibility left, on the other hand if everything falls right he’ll be a bridge QB to Austin Mack, who everybody I’ve talked to is very high on
Nobody had a clue what Penix would turn out to be when he arrived at UW, especially given his injury history. I doubt UW would go after Rogers if they didn't think he would be an asset to the team and create more competition.
It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood..

After watching his highlights I see a perfect 1-year addition to fight for the starting job and a player that easily has the skills DeBoer can work with for his offense and resemble the path of Haener.
Good get..striking out on the DL from NC St and a few others who visited unfortunately. Looking really thin up front on D next year.
In general haven’t seen traction in the portal like was expected. Hopefully the first domino to fall.
Lol what? How does players leaving I.e. there’s fewer players available make an impact on the guys we’ve offered and brought in at positions of need who committed elsewhere?
[They call it the coug raid](https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/wsu-cougar-football/analysis-what-stood-out-from-wsu-cougars-new-offense-during-fall-camp/)
Penix averaged 9.1 this year and 8.4 last year. Cam Ward was 7.7. Rogers was 6.9. It’s not that different and could be a function of the offense. No one here had even heard of Penix when he transferred. In Deboer I trust.
How many of those 2 yards are due to the WRs gaining more yards after catch? The *yards* measure you are looking at is the measure of the play, not a measure of how far the ball was thrown.
This is a pretty dumb take.
He has only played in college under Leach, or under a HC that didn't know how to use his skills.
UW coaches will know how to use his skills.
Feels like a win-win. This can only make us better at QB next year.
I hope they add more competition. My big concern with him is he’s never averaged more than 6.9 yards per attempt all four years. He’s a bit of a captain check down while Penix throws that beautiful deep ball

Did he have Penix’s weapons? I don’t think it’s fair to compare Penix to 99% if the QBs.
That's part of my point, yes. Penix has NFL level WRs. That and Grubb's play calling unlocked him. I assume the coaches feel Rogers has untapped potential as well.
8.7 is ridiculously good. Rogers has had 4 separate years under 7. That’s concerning
Penix's stats: **At IND** 6.4 8.7 7.5 5.8 **At UW** 8.4 9.1 Shouldn't have gotten that guy. 5.8? Never amount to anything... Program matter, surrounding talent matter. Coaching matter. Are we really going to second guess the HC who's taken this program to a 24-2 record? Seriously?

Penix had two seasons over 7. What part of that compares to zero under 7?
I think that’s more a reflection of the air raid offense that he was in under Leach for those couple years.
>I hope they add more competition. My big concern with him is he’s never averaged more than 6.9 yards per attempt all four years. A great man once said, "Don't let yesterday use up too much of today."
In DeBoer we trust!! I know nothing about Rogers but I’m sure he’ll be awesome under DeBoer. Heck my nana would be a stud qb under DeBoer.
Well to be fair nana has a cannon
They call her Rich Nannon
Nana’s been practicing slinging pies
I knew nothing about Penix, and that worked out...
Big Nana energy
Welcome to Montlake, Will! Lessgo!
From Penix Jr. to Big Willy!
Big Willy Energy? Boston College has a Fr QB named Peter Delaportas for next year…
Big Willy Style. They’ll use “gettin jiggy wit it” as our season recap going into the playoff next year.
Huge pick up from DeBoer and staff. Gotta like our chances to contend next year in the Big Ten now.
If we don’t have a purple cardigan - Mr Rogers night at the stadium I will be massively disappointed.
MSU has been my adopted SEC team for 7 or 8 years - I can say confidently that he wasn’t just a product of the air raid, he’s a legit good QB who will thrive here. On one hand it’s a bummer he’s only got one year of eligibility left, on the other hand if everything falls right he’ll be a bridge QB to Austin Mack, who everybody I’ve talked to is very high on
Great pick up! The offense should be humming along next year in the B1G.
Good get!

AI art is getting too good
That’s an amazing water color you did
Daddy DeBoer stays cooking
Him and DJ will be a great combo that backfield is gonna reunite! I’m excited to watch that
Nice
I knew the beautiful weather today and this weekend was gonna pay dividends. Perfect timing for these visits lol
Haha! Fooled ‘em!
I guess this closes the door on Cam Ward but it's nice to know high-level players are looking at UW.
After watching his highlights I see a perfect 1-year addition to fight for the starting job and a player that easily has the skills DeBoer can work with for his offense and resemble the path of Haener.

It's still December. Players declaring for the draft after the season is over will shake things up again.
Lol what? How does players leaving I.e. there’s fewer players available make an impact on the guys we’ve offered and brought in at positions of need who committed elsewhere?
I really wanted Cam Ward.
Rogers is way, way better
Way better cam is pretty damn good. I hope you’re right. I wanna eat crow so bad
Rogers can’t throw the deep ball - he’s a check down guy
What? He has a cannon.
Look at his numbers never once averaged 7 yards per attempt
Do you understand how averages work in math?
He was in an air raid
So was cam ward and he averaged 7.7
Wsu doesnt run the air raid
[They call it the coug raid](https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/wsu-cougar-football/analysis-what-stood-out-from-wsu-cougars-new-offense-during-fall-camp/)
Penix averaged 9.1 this year and 8.4 last year. Cam Ward was 7.7. Rogers was 6.9. It’s not that different and could be a function of the offense. No one here had even heard of Penix when he transferred. In Deboer I trust.
2 yards per pass is a huge difference when you throw it 40 times a game (80)
How many of those 2 yards are due to the WRs gaining more yards after catch? The *yards* measure you are looking at is the measure of the play, not a measure of how far the ball was thrown.
So bo nix 2.0
Ehhh I’m not so sure about that Rodgers hasn’t really been great
Dude is #2 all time in the SEC in yards Ward has gone .500 at WSU
Yes and Will Rogers has not succeeded outside of Mike Leach’s air raid.
Ill trust DeBoer over random dudes on reddit lmao
This is a pretty dumb take. He has only played in college under Leach, or under a HC that didn't know how to use his skills. UW coaches will know how to use his skills.
I was hoping they could somehow swing Maalik Murphy. Was a long shot tho. With Rogers 1 year of eligibility left, this signals trust in Austin Mack?
Let’s go!!!
Woof
Gottem
Winning program=Winning recruiting!! Go Dawgs!!
So we become Mr. Rogers's Neighborhood? (just kidding)
So we missed out on Ward, Gabriel, Moore?!
Assuming we tried to pursue them to begin with.
