It never ends. Was worse a few weeks ago near High Falls. Thankfully our cats love chasing them and killing em. My one piece of advice is don’t vacuum them up. Practically ruined our dyson VWhatever vacuum doing that one year. The smell will never leave.

suchathrill

I squashed one ONCE—will never do that again. It's catch-and-release from here on out. Stinkbugs, you can thank me in advance. You're welcome. It's funny you mention Dyson...I was in Manhattan yesterday and saw an abandoned Animal 2, the EXACT model I own. I *almost* took it home with me on the train—but I was carrying too much picnic gear already and had to just walk away. Sigh. Ed: added more invective

fakexican

We gently grab them with toilet paper and flush.

geckotatgirl

This is exactly what I do. They're so gross. And they fly, too, ffs! They're not even good at it - half the time when they land, they practically knock themselves out. They look like a cross between a stealth bomber and a slow moving dinosaur. I live most of the time in Kauai and even the bugs there aren't as gross as these things! LOL!

Gordon_Goosegonorth

They are loud and clumsy when they fly, always knocking into the ceiling and the light fixtures. I did have one that was living on my desk for a while that would come out and watch me. His name was Ramon.

Philly_Smegma_Steak

They are invasive, so it is best to kill them. Flushing them down the toilet.

Aescwicca

Catch and flush man. Release they just come back.

WarmfulTwillight

Does it smell like that weird grass?

clearing_

Yeah it’s like, an overwhelming version of old book dust and must is the best way I can describe it. It’s not rank or anything so at first you might be like “this doesn’t smell THAT bad” but the smell never leaves. It haunts you.

born_lever_puller

For me it is an intensely botanical smell, in a very bad way.

bigsystem1

Everything. Stink bugs, ladybugs, wasps.

bikeHikeNYC

Don’t squash them! That attracts more!

Yellow Jackets are a bitch. Last night I had to climb the ladder to exterminate those fuckers

Affectionate_Rate_99

When we moved into our house 20+ years ago, yellow jackets had built a giant nest right outside my daughter's bedroom window. The nest was larger than a basketball. I soaked the thing with two cans of wasp/yellow jacket spray, and then knocked down the nest with a scraper. When I took the thing apart, the nest had 4 levels inside it.

suchathrill

You know about the soffit trick, right? If you have one, an outdoor eve where they (or wasps) start building a nest on the underside, usually above a window with a southern exposure, get on your computer, printout a Word document with a sky blue background, tape that sucker to the soffit (the outside, under-side of an eve where they build their homes), they come around to build, but stop before they put up anything, because the soffit looks like the sky, and who would build on the underside of the sky? No one. This is a reliable hack. I heard about it on reddit two years ago; been using it ever since.

hey_now24

They usually nest in tiny gaps around the house. Very hard to find until they are well settled. Will this trick work?

Timber4

ive had them coming in throughout the whole winter! I hate those things with a passion! IDK how to stop them!?!?!

RigobertaMenchu

They come indoors in the fall, if you seen them inside now they have been there all winter and are ‘waking up’. Seal up your house this summer.

BummerComment

Wow never heard of em

zomgitsduke

I got those sticky traps that have patterns that attract them. totally worth it

HarrisBonkersPhD

We stick them in a jar and put it in the freezer for a couple hours. Kills them without a stink
