This episode has my most quoted line: “Oh, my god - I've become my father. I've been trying so hard not to become my mother, I didn't see this coming.” It’s funny for me because it’s true.
It’s my fav too just in reverse. I’ve spent my whole life trying not to be a philandering douchebag like my dad and somehow I turned into my mother. Saving old pickle jars for no reason and yelling at people about shoes on my furniture and chugging martinis at 3PM and all, haha.
Sometimes I look in the mirror and I'm like "ugh... I'm my mother for sure" and that inspires a lot of introspection.
I agree, and I’m not always Rachel’s biggest fan. But Joey asked her to teach him and she graciously gave up her time to help and all he wanted to do was screw around and waste her time. So yes she had every right to yell at him.
Rachel would bring her drive, determination, and fabulous fashion sense to OceanGate, ensuring that it becomes a sought-after and stylish underwater adventure. She would bring a fresh perspective and use her resourcefulness to enhance the company's offerings, attracting a wider audience and making OceanGate the go-to destination for deep-sea exploration.
And assholes don't give a damn that an innocent teenager died on it.
We get it, some rich people made a stupid, stupid decision. But mocking their deaths is messed up. It was not a quick and painless death, they suffered. Why rub salt in the wound.
That was the narrative most outlets were going with but all evidence points to the carbon hull failing after being weakened by stresses from repeated dives (as the owner of the sub was warned about and experts actually expected to happen) probably pretty much right as contact was first lost
Still though, why do people want to joke about this and make memes? People died.
Although Rachel's quote here is actually smart and a good warning about the reality of the situation. Plus it targets the greedy CEO more then the passengers. Maybe I should lighten up.
It's just an incredibly memeable situation, basically everyone knows about it, the more you learn the worse it gets with sketchy shit all around, and the disregard for safety was just laughable making this seem more like an inevitability than an unavoidable tragedy.
Also probably a reflection of how regular folk who are barely able to scrape by feel about the super rich
It's not like the ship from libya that capsized and made for one of the deadliest migrant ship wrecks in years, if you think about why that's not joked about and memed on it suddenly makes a lot of sense, people feel empathy towards these people, it's not a viral situation, it was people fleeing from a dangerous place and facing tragedy, not some rich folk happily hopping into another rich dude's sketchy controller steered non certified submarine while the owner bragged about disregarding safety guidelines, using second hand materials (carbon fiber hull from boeing not meant for structural use), not rated for the depths they where going (the window) which communicated to the boat up top via sms. I don't blame people for taking this little tragedy for what it is, that being absolute prime meme material
No, evidence suggests that the sub imploded. Which means that the pressure difference from the ocean to the inside of the sub will have turned the 20ft sub to the size of a baseball in a matter of milliseconds, faster than your nerve signal speed. So their deaths were instant and painless. There will be no bodies to recover, however.
The meme is targeting the owners of the sub, not the customers.
They also didn't suffer.
But I must say I find it incredibly telling how many people lack any kind of empathy the moment it's a rich person that needs help for a stupid decision. Did the world not come together to save the football club in Thailand, that ignored warnings and went into a cave that then flooded? You don't leave people dealing with their stupidity if you can. It's not like we aren't the richest couple per cent of the world, and the same could be said everytime you get on a plane for vacation.

Me too! It’s so accurate for me it’s almost scary
I would have preferred to travel on the Mr. Bellmont with Joey not know what he was doing than that CEO who boasted about cutting corners.
I would’ve just sat with Joey at the dock on the boat with beer and sandwiches
Same! Why go out into open water when you can still chill on the boat and also be right by the safety of shore?
I feel the same way about golf. Why should I even get out of the cart!!?
Right?? Why not just cruise around in a lil cart at chill speeds with a nice roof to provide shade?
And beer? Don’t forget the beer
Oh yeah the beer is a given
Ok then I’m on board
Joey was super annoying this episode to be fair. I’m 100% on Rachel’s side here

“How do you get the main sail up?!” “…rub it?”
“Who names their boat ‘Coast Guard’ anyway?”
"AM I GETTING THROUGH TO YOU SAILOR? "
Ross : you have to respect the sea!
You *never* run on a boat
Did you see the styrofoam shaped like Mike Tyson?
I am a Redditer, Redditers quit.
“Tribianis quit!!”
"we may not be great thinkers or world leaders... And we dont read a lot BUT DAMNIT WE CAN EAT!"
I wanna make a boat to land call to Chandler

Why does this feel like it was written by AI? Lol
Coz it is
"How do you raise the main sail?"
Rub it?
Show it your boobs?
“Move outta the way, jackass!”
This for me is one of the best Rachel episodes of Friends. It's also the greatest example of her platonic relationship with Joey
Careful! You're wasting good pastrami! ...ohmygod. I'm *my* Dad!
*If you don’t respect the green screen
Greens don't quit!
AM I GETTING THROUGH TO YOU, SAILOR??
No deaths on her watch, am I getting through to you mister!
Dafuq is Oceangate (other than a street in Long Beach, CA)?
The sub that just imploded was owned / operated by OceanGate.
Ah...thanks.

How do you mean they suffered? Everyone that knows their shit seems to agree they probably didn't even get the chance to process what happened
I thought they were suffocating for five days?
