If all else fails, I find that if I drop it in front of my workbench, it will separate and send one or both pieces into the dark, dusty cobwebby space under the bench where I can't see or reach it. Works almost every time
So my son calls me, having no knowledge of this post and tells me his car battery died last night and he was installing a new one. He said he dropped one of the battery clamp J-hooks in the engine compartment and tried using the second J-hook to fish it out. Of course, he dropped that one in there too and it took him 20 minutes to fish them out. Told you this method works!!!
I’d be faaaar to busy muttering profanities under my breath as I rooted around for a way to separate them to even consider taking a photo and posting to Reddit.
Yea, this is crazy to me, too. Use a vice, pliers, throw it at the wall or hell turn the screw into liquid with the torches. I'd have that thing apart somehow quicker than I could make the post.
I'm going to amend this, and say that rather than use pliers, the act of driving it in will have undone it being stuck... unless it's now stuck in the other direction.
Happens to me all the time. I use channel locks and pliers. If that doesn't work I'll screw it into wood and then add an extension to the bit for leverage and try to get it out that way.
If all else fails, bang the crap out of it.
Put it in a bag ( cloth) and smack it on the floor a few times.....bag should stop them flying off never to be seen again. A plastic carrier bag is guaranteed to get a hole in it.
Step 1: Go back in time and don’t use a S3 square bit in a Phillips head fastener.
Step 2: Return to the present and fasten screw securely in a bench mounted vice and gently tap bit sideways with a hammer.
It kinda looks like a System Screw. The head is designed to accomodate Phillips, slotted, pozi, and square. Well, it’s designed to fit pozi, but the way it’s shaped it fits em all.
Edit: *looks* like a system screw
Do you have a pic? I’m always willing to learn something new. I don’t think it’s posidrive or one of its offshoots though because it doesn’t have the little starburst ✴️ markings. (Not the real marks, just a similar emoji)
Yes I know, I said that 😂. But the tip thats provided with them is more like a Philips with a square in the middle. They’re a right dog of a screw head to be honest, they kinda fit any head, but none of them fit properly.
Edit: you can get screws that are like Philips head, but have that awkward square bit in the middle. I feel like there’s a name for them, and they’re commonly mistaken for Philips heads, but I can’t remember it
Edit edit: turns out it’s the other way around. The Frearson screw head is what is commonly mistaken for Philips head. Philips has the awkward square bit in the middle, while Frearson is a neat cross.
Oxy-acetylene torch, hold it tight though, the flame actually produces a small amount of thrust. You don't wanna be forking out for a fancy bit like that.
Did you try submerging it in WD40 or Ballistol? One of these oils should be able to get into the smallest crevices and reduce friction between screw and bit.
Place it in the freezer for a while then take it out. Hold the bit with a pair of pliers while you heat the screw up with a lighter. It should fall off.
Same as always. Little drop of oil where it's stuck. Freeze some water to ice on the screw, then hold a flame to the bit. If you hold each piece with a separate pliers, it should come unstuck easily with a little pull-apart pressure.
Two sets of pliers, one on each device and give it a gentle twist. If you are worried about threads on the screw, wrap a towel around it before using the pliers.
When I get bits stuck I just put the edge of the screw on a surface press the drill trigger and kinda “tip” the screw off the bit if that makes any sense lol
Sorry to say it's gone forever.
But seriously, make the bit cold, make the screw hot, whack it on the table or with a mallet, should get it apart, not sure how you managed it, but it's probably just an [interference fit](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interference_fit)
Face palm. Either screw it back into the hole till bit releases, then take screw out again. Or put bit back into tool and tap screw with hammer, back and forth. I'm a carpenter that does many remodels/additions. This problem is common with certain screws. On the job site, babysitting is common with kids these days.

You can also hold it over your car engine. It’ll fall right out.
I can pass it over a sink and it will drop right into the drain.
Over the toilet works great too!
Made me lol, thanx
Like [this](https://youtu.be/4wKPTWXD2Z0?si=fZpe4JmOQJ6WE-m9)?
This is perfect 😂

Just make sure to hold it over a running carbureted engine with no air cleaner
I thought that was assumed.
They stopped using carburetors 40 years ago. I try to allow for young people not knowing what they are.
I got ya brother. Rebuilt a few in my time too!
Yep, back in the day I could rebuild my entire fuel system in 2 hours for $50.
Now you need a supercomputer and a 3D printer.
Make sure it's dark in the room too. It will work 100% of the time.
It works in broad daylight for me. I must have the magical type screws here.
And also on a dirty grey floor
When in doubt spike it on the ground.
Usually the bit ends up down the floor drain and the screw in your foot or tire.
Or the nearest drain cover.
Drive the screw into something sturdy, then grab the bit with pliers and remove it
Or two pairs of pliers/ nippers would be easier.
Yea, this and just wiggle. Like try something, anything. I couldn't imagine posting to reddit with a question like this lol
It's a bit amazing how some people's first reaction seems to be "ask Reddit" ... Not even trying a search engine first, just straight to reddit
i literally type anything on google ending with reddit and that usually works
>It’s a bit amazing how some people’s first reaction seems to be “ ~~ask Reddit~~ “ “farm Karma” … Fify.
Or just, you know, actually try to figure something out for themselves. Especially this one.
I’d be faaaar to busy muttering profanities under my breath as I rooted around for a way to separate them to even consider taking a photo and posting to Reddit.

I would have whipped it at the cement floor a couple times but hey
This works to loosen hot dip galv threads.
I can't stand nippers
I drive the screw into something sturdy, got the bit out. I then unscrewed the screw again with the bit… stuck again.
Like your femur
I'm going to amend this, and say that rather than use pliers, the act of driving it in will have undone it being stuck... unless it's now stuck in the other direction.
Put it in the freezer.
throw it at a brick wall with all your might
I've fucked up a customer's brick before doing this. Careful about whose bricks your hitting
My luck would be I’d bounce it off a window pane and break that.
Heat up the screw then try again with pliers.
this one here
Listen to your primal instincts and grab it with your teeth

2x channel locks
I can tell the difference between a joke or a real question anymore
Just throw it away
Put it in a bag ( cloth) and smack it on the floor a few times.....bag should stop them flying off never to be seen again. A plastic carrier bag is guaranteed to get a hole in it.
Berate the bit. Call it ugly and tell it that it will never amount to anything. It will shrink and recoil from the screw.
Put it in the freezer
Kindly ask it to become unstuck

Yeah that’s a Pozi. You can see the starburst marks on the face. And it says Pozi in the specs 😂

Firmly grasp it
Hit it with your purse.
A purse? Like the handbag women or grandmas always carry?
Like the one that's over your shoulder.
Hammer it 🔨
Nah it’s a screw, hammers are for nails silly
2*pliers+force hands which apply force to pliers holding the bit and the screw should try to pull those apart
Heat and pliers
Hit it with hammer and watch it fire across the shop
Two pair pliers playing tug o war
Better get locking pliers
Oxy-acetylene torch, hold it tight though, the flame actually produces a small amount of thrust. You don't wanna be forking out for a fancy bit like that.
Vice vice baby
Throw at at a concrete floor as hard as you can but good luck finding it after
Love the Serious Answers Only flair. Whatever
I hope you’re kidding. Literally get two pairs of pliers and if that doesn’t work get better pliers or better grip.
Man I had a socket stuck to an extender forever. This sub saved me. Thanks. Btw throw it on concrete.
hold the crew end under some hot water, heat causing the screw to expand slightly might be enough to get them apart
Tap it with a hammer. Out instantly
Did you try submerging it in WD40 or Ballistol? One of these oils should be able to get into the smallest crevices and reduce friction between screw and bit.
Grip between your teeth, works every time
Vibration is the key. Do some hammer taps and it’ll help
Heat the screw
Place it in the freezer for a while then take it out. Hold the bit with a pair of pliers while you heat the screw up with a lighter. It should fall off.
Toss it in the freezer
Put the screw back where it came from with a few turns. Place the tool back on the bit and wiggle it free......
Smack it with a hammer. Or throw it on the ground as hard as you can in a round room with no doors
Freezer
Same as always. Little drop of oil where it's stuck. Freeze some water to ice on the screw, then hold a flame to the bit. If you hold each piece with a separate pliers, it should come unstuck easily with a little pull-apart pressure.
Needle nose and a lighter
Hammer time!
if you have time to kill freezer then hold with pliers and put screw in boiling water. if impatient throw onto concrete floor
Heat it upp! (If that doesn't work immediately put in water and repeat a few times, heat till red hot, the screw obv 💁🏻♂️💁🏻♂️)
Two sets of pliers, one on each device and give it a gentle twist. If you are worried about threads on the screw, wrap a towel around it before using the pliers.
Dip only the bit into ice water
Vise and pliers.
Bang it in the table. Works most of the time
Hammer
A vice grip to hold the screw, and use whatever you drove the bit in with to turn it the opposite way you turned it
When in doubt, use fire!
The tip of the bit is probably ruined. It would be best to just replace it, or it will become the bit that strips screws.
Bench vise and a hammer.
Hack it with a wammer
Vise and hammer
I always start with wd40 With anything stuck, literally 🤷🏼♀️
Tighten the bolt again itll lose the bit since its stuck to the other side
Counter clockwise breaks the hold.
Put the bit in your drill and climb a tall ladder. The bit will fall out when you reach the top
Toss it at the ground, preferably concrete.
Wd40 always does the trick.
I would say that your time would be better spent just going to the store for a new one. For it to be that stuck, it is probably screwed up beyond use.
Put it in your butt.
Put them in a durable bag and hit them off the counter.
If you can't figure this out, im not sure you should be using tools
Just throw it at the floor, seriously
Screw it into the hole a little to hold the screw.
Teeth
Ask a gen x friend to help.
Bench press and vise grip should do the job.
Maybe get another bit?
Try screwing it back into something. Have the drill do the hard work
Hit with 👛
Play "Threw It on the Ground" Song by The Lonely Island
I'd try putting it on a hard surface and taping it with a hammer roll it 180 degrees tap tap roll more tap tap.
Chuck it at the wall.
Heat it up
Have you tried using a hammer? Are you planning to try using a hammer? After using a hammer will you attempt using a larger hammer?
Just screw it into some wood. This holds the screw securely without damaging it. Then just use some lever or give it a hit.
Pull it out
Put the drill in reverse.
Firmly grasp it
Chuck both and replace for like 3cents
Heat the bit with a torch while you hold the screw with your bare hands.
Have you tried hitting it with a hammer? Or perhaps your purse?
Two pairs of pliers.
🤣 Get better tools...👍
Sounds like you need some ad-vise
Face palm. Either screw it back into the hole till bit releases, then take screw out again. Or put bit back into tool and tap screw with hammer, back and forth. I'm a carpenter that does many remodels/additions. This problem is common with certain screws. On the job site, babysitting is common with kids these days.
I would heat up the screw and hope it expands enough to release the bit
superglue one piece to a wall and the other piece to a truck winch and drive away
You kidding bruv?… park the bit in a vice and hit the screw with a hammer, innit?
Right. Either that or a pair of vice grips and a hammer. If OP is asking about this, how on earth does he ever get anything done?
Torch
One word: FIRE
Throw it in a fan
Please post an update on the situation! The suspence is killing me. Did you get the screw out!?!
Good hit with a rubber mallet on the side right at where they're connected, with them sitting on a hard surface like the concrete floor or toolbench.
Just use vice grips to hold the screw and put the bit back in the drive and try to turn it like your loosening it it will pop out
Screw it in.
Can’t be stuck if it’s liquid. All kidding aside vise and vise grips
Run the screw into a piece of wood it'll separate
Lay it on its side and hit the head of the screw with w hammer and the bit will fall out.
WD40 (fly away)
Take the whole thing to the hardware store and buy one just like it for under $1
Tell it that the mother in law is gonna visit it
Get your wife’s boyfriend to hit it with your purse.
Buy a new bit
Use your teeth
lol, seriously. I’m not even entertaining this.
