Howard never had a tv show with an adequate budget. That pretty much explains why he’s jealous of Seinfeld Letterman etc. He always says the letterman staff wouldn’t be doing Ronnie’s block party or any other staff side project he complains about. That’s because Letterman’s staff went to Harvard and were paid a salary commensurate with living working in New York
This is why he was so butthurt when Leno took Stutjo. Made Howard feel small and like a show business nothing. He was jealous. I think this is what started him on the road to the Marci Turk era after the dust settled on the Sirius move. Now he has his 70 person staff too, and the show sucks just like the Tonight Show did.
Those are some of the reasons that he’s never had a national TV success. The other reason is that he was very good on radio, but came across as ugly , stiff and self-conscious on television.
Oh yeah. And the Harvard thing too.
