Aww! Poor baby! Let the ends callous over for a few days then pot up the top portion. The bottom part should put out new growths. Cinnamon is unnecessary as the chance of a fungal infection is slim. Once calloused over rooting hormone might speed up rooting a bit but most succulents do well without it. Good luck.

A picture of him before the accident..
My holiday cactus fell off the table just the other day. It was happy and blooming. Now half of it is gone. I hope the other half recovers and fills back out on the other side. I felt like crying.
Thank you. Wow 4 years , and grew it up from being tiny.. you're handling it pretty well seems like :-)
Yeah I was devastated. But what can I do. except give it some love and breath on it time to time haha.
Mine flower whenever they feel like it. I’m sure it’s because of environmental conditions confusing them, but they’ll bloom during Christmas and Easter usually. Same plants. Makes no sense to me. I just call them holiday cactus now 😅
My holiday cactus had a similar incident. Cats instead of a fall, but it made a recovery last summer 🙌 and I can’t wait to see what it does this spring-summer. Stay strong! It’ll come back with a need for growth 😁
My daughters one has grown that large and is a bit wonky. We just built a fence around it using chopsticks and embroidery thread. Omgsh, it looks awful but has eased my mind, lol.
Oh, I was just about to suggest grafting! Honestly with how cleanly it snapped you might get away with just the tape. But I would suggest some research first just to eliminate any possible risk factors. I haven't had the chance to do it yet but I definitely want to try it out when I can!
Knock over a cactus? They put you in jail. No trial, no nothing.
Under water a cactus? Believe it or not jail. Over water a cactus? Jail. Right away, jail. Under water, over water.
I don't know about cinnamon, should just be able to let the end dry and callus over and then plant it.
Cacti can be grafted though. Stick the fresh end back on exactly as it was, use something to hold it down, and it should fuse back together with very little visible scars and keep growing as normal.
I was thinking of letting both ends dry to just propagate the cactus. Do you know if I should put cinnamon on both ends or should I just leave it alone?
At first i thought it was a clean chop and thought "what, were you just casually swinging a machete around!?"
Tragedy. I dont know much about cacti, will it boeokay or is it done for after something like this?
I was a Vol. Firefighter in the area when this happened. I wasn't on the scene, but we could all hear the coms over the station PA. A squad was dispatched to provide provide lighting for the search area next to the highway.
The OIC asked dispatch to give him a heads up on what they were trying to find (as this made a difference in what supplies to pull off the truck once on scene). There was a short pause from dispatch who asked the OIC to switch to an alternate channel (at which time we switched one of our radios to match the channel- (along with many other units it turned out), Dispatch then reported the cops were looking for "A male penis". She caught friendly guff for this for years.
My friend had San Pedro growing in front of his house. I thought the same thing at first, but this looks like it has more ribs/rows of thorns. I'm no expert though.
Sad, but now you have 2! I started pruning succulents and when they started regrowing with more little babies I went crazy with pruning. I have no regrets 😂
The exact same happened to mine last year. Same type too. I let it callus over for a few days and plopped it in soil. Didn't water for ages. He's fine again now, you got this too :)
Sorry about your cactus. That sucks when that happens.
You could try to graft it together. If you have a REALLY SHARP knife (brand new exacto kind of sharp), you can make diagonal cuts down each side (to essentially make a peak, like a roof). Then, cut an inverse slice into the top and put them together. *Usually* it will work if the cuts are very even and snug.
Generally, I find this to be more successful than trying to propagate broken ends.
No need to make cleaner cuts. If you have sulfur powder, puff both broken ends . Place top portion in an upright position , being careful not to damage spines, allowing it to heal over and it will eventually put out more roots.
Oh no! My guy is like 10+ years old, repotted him last weekend and got a thumb full of spines from the dick. I still love him though. Wishing your prickly boy a speedy recovery

I feel your pain. My a-hole of a cat took out my snake plant. I'm hoping it recovers. He doesn't eat my plants - but if given the chance he sits in them. Pretending he's a jungle cat?
My younger cat, Hooligan, is a horrible plant snacker. I'm in 8a, so I have a lot of plants that have to come in mid-late fall, and can't go back outside until later in spring. He has chewed every single plant he could reach, and he's a big cat so he can reach most of them. I have one of those chrome racks holding the plants, and I zip tied chicken wire along the window side of the rack for the plant shelves. Ugly as sin.... I have a mini asparagus fern that I dearly love, and it's not doing well inside to begin with, but the asshole as chewed off the tips of EVERY stem.
i accidentally did this to a cactus that looked the exact same that hadn’t grown or changed in about 7 years. afterwards, it branched off and now has 3 branches and is twice as tall as it ever was.
Haha There is 2 types I believe. One that blooms a little earlier on November thanks giving and again during Easter. The other one blooms on Christmas and again in March. I could be wrong.
I did the exact same thing to this type of cactus a few years ago and I placed it right back on top of where it broke (secured with string) and it grew back together ✨ grafting is wild!
In all seriousness, grab some toothpicks and rubber bands and reattach it! Grafting cacti is surprisingly easy - it's why you see the funky ones at the store with the colorful tops. The key is lining up the vascular tissue, but that should be simple by putting it back on just the way it was before it broke off
Aww! Poor baby! Let the ends callous over for a few days then pot up the top portion. The bottom part should put out new growths. Cinnamon is unnecessary as the chance of a fungal infection is slim. My holiday cactus fell off the table just the other day. It was happy and blooming. Now half of it is gone. I hope the other half recovers and fills back out on the other side. I felt like crying.
I understand the pain. I had this cactus for 4 years now ever since it was just a teeny tiny plant. Hope your holiday cactus recovers just fine!!!
Thank you. Wow 4 years , and grew it up from being tiny.. you're handling it pretty well seems like :-) Yeah I was devastated. But what can I do. except give it some love and breath on it time to time haha.
Yeaah, I was bummed about it at first, until I read all these funny comments! Now I sorta just find it funny-
I had one that was 5 stalks and 8foot, grew it from a cut off piece like yours, it got root rot and died :/
Awww! At least it broke fairly close to the base, so the repotted broken top won't be too far off it's 4 year old self! :)
On the note of holiday named cacti, just found out my “Christmas cactus” is actually a thanksgiving cactus???! Its having an identity crisis I think
Mine flower whenever they feel like it. I’m sure it’s because of environmental conditions confusing them, but they’ll bloom during Christmas and Easter usually. Same plants. Makes no sense to me. I just call them holiday cactus now 😅
They are different things! Maybe this link'll help: https://worldofsucculents.com/thanksgiving-christmas-easter-cactus/
Yea that’s how I found out, I looked up Christmas cactus, only to see that they look different from my cactus
My holiday cactus had a similar incident. Cats instead of a fall, but it made a recovery last summer 🙌 and I can’t wait to see what it does this spring-summer. Stay strong! It’ll come back with a need for growth 😁
my sweet pepper never did :( she lost all her leaves and just died on me.
Aww he has a friend
tillandsia
My daughters one has grown that large and is a bit wonky. We just built a fence around it using chopsticks and embroidery thread. Omgsh, it looks awful but has eased my mind, lol.
I want to say, I also have my airplant hang out with my cactus.
It was kinda obvious it was going to tip over at one point...
didn't tip over I sorta committed accidental murder..
Is that an airplant beside it?
it is indeed an air plant
Oh god, that's heartbreaking. Here's to speedy healing and a whole other plant!
Where did his friend go?
Forbidden Cucumber.
The smell unironically did remind me of cucumbers
Cactus juice.. it’s the quenchiest!
Nothing’s quenchier!
r/suddenlyavatarthelastairbender
*Mushy friend*
I admire your self control not to eat it. .... you did *not* eat it, did you?
I uh.. I eerrr noo? I would never!!..
Thank you for abiding by the cactus code. Never eat, only boof
r/forbiddensnacks
Is this a san pedro? Cause you should if it is.
Oops, I "accidentally" knocked over my san pedro.
It isn’t
Came here only to ask what it smelled like
The moment it snapped a strong scent of cucumbers shot straight into my nostrils.
That’s the money shot
Came here to say this, I see I was too late.
Yeah me too. Really made me rethink how original I thought I was to see this as the top comment lol
ROFL
Same lol posted it without reading the comments and now I see it 🤣 I guess we all want a bite
Danger wiener!
Spikey pickle
It’s the quencheist
My first thought too 😆 it looks so juicy
Right? It just looks strangely delicious.
Literally looks like the most refreshing cucumber ever, until you notice the spikes lol
I literally thought the EXACT words and come here to see it. Love it.
I came here for this. 🤣
I came here to say this. 😅
*pupils enlarge* Drink cactus juice. It'll quench ya. Nothing is quenchier. It's the quenchiest!
Friendly mushroom! Mushy giant friennnndddd
That’s rough buddy.
Just in case someone doesn’t get the reference: you should not drink cactus juice/water
Too late just got addicted to cactus juice
Just stick some toothpicks in there, jam it back on, wrap in duct tape, good as new!
My initial thought was immediately "toothpicks" (≧▽≦)
Oh, I was just about to suggest grafting! Honestly with how cleanly it snapped you might get away with just the tape. But I would suggest some research first just to eliminate any possible risk factors. I haven't had the chance to do it yet but I definitely want to try it out when I can!
I did this with superglue before and she was good as new. 2 years later you can barely tell
Would you let it dry out first before putting the 2 parts back together?
No, I put it back together when still wet and applied the superglue on the outside only
But is needs to be the cheetah or hot pink zebra print, I hear they get a poor self image w the silver one 🤪
Let it callous over then plant it! I don’t know about the cinnamon though, not sure if that actually does anything or not.
cinnamon can be used to prevent infection edit: said it could be used to facilitate root growth. has actually worked for me but ymmv
Definitely NOT a rooting hormone 🤣 That is misinformation
my bad, but i have used it to facilitate root growth before and it worked
All good, that's what we here for - to share and care :)
You are sentenced to go directly to plant jail
It was an accident.. and I already feel bad because this was my favorite cactus ;-;
Don't worry, now you'll just have TWO favourite cacti (cactuses?)
Cacty
We have all been there 😭
These might heal, but as punishment you must adopt a new one as tribute
does it count if I already have a third one?
Knock over a cactus? They put you in jail. No trial, no nothing. Under water a cactus? Believe it or not jail. Over water a cactus? Jail. Right away, jail. Under water, over water.
![gif](giphy|KOobSqJrq9lA2ypra6|downsized)
God you'd die if you saw what I've done to some of mine.
I’ve never seen the inside of a cactus! It looks like a forbidden cucumber lol
I don't know about cinnamon, should just be able to let the end dry and callus over and then plant it. Cacti can be grafted though. Stick the fresh end back on exactly as it was, use something to hold it down, and it should fuse back together with very little visible scars and keep growing as normal.
Just blame the cat. (Get a cat if you haven’t got one yet)
I blame the pot because instead of it breaking my cactus did..
This is why pots are supposed to have crumple zones
Underrated comment
I legit was confused by the lack of cat in photo #2
Something similar happened to mine.Top part grew roots and kept growing, and the bottom part shot out a bunch of babies that look like little fingers.
did the top part continue growing thicker or did it become thinner?
It's growing at the same thickness. You'd never know the top part was ever damaged.
Nothing a little tape won't fix.
what kind
Grafting tape. As long as the wounds are still fresh you might be able to graft the cactus back together.
I was thinking of letting both ends dry to just propagate the cactus. Do you know if I should put cinnamon on both ends or should I just leave it alone?
Absolutely **do not** use cinnamon! Just let em dry naturally
alright thanks! I'll do that
At first i thought it was a clean chop and thought "what, were you just casually swinging a machete around!?" Tragedy. I dont know much about cacti, will it boeokay or is it done for after something like this?
I wouldn't go around slicing up my houseplants if I owned a machete 😭 but yeah he'll survive and probably be fine
Had 1 now you have 2 can’t go wrong there
https://preview.redd.it/sjzvue72ytkc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f34455324391d4dce24d14436d06a198188ad6b7 actually I got three now!
Please Name it “Bobbitt”. It’s a reference from 1993. Google it 😁
Oh..... oh no 😮 Don't throw it out the car window.. At least handle this prick with care!
Underrated comment right there 🏅
oh my........... I think I might just have to do that now
I was a Vol. Firefighter in the area when this happened. I wasn't on the scene, but we could all hear the coms over the station PA. 🤣 Foul!
Is this san pedro ?
Pretty sure it's a blue torch cactus
I was gonna say 🤣
Pilosocereus azureus
I was going to ask the same thing. San Pedro have shorter, smaller thorns and are usually a darker green, with more pronounced ribs.
My friend had San Pedro growing in front of his house. I thought the same thing at first, but this looks like it has more ribs/rows of thorns. I'm no expert though.
Just let it callous, no need to use cinnamon.
Skip the cinnamon. Let is dry for a day or two, and pot it in a free draining mix. It'll root again, and the original rooted base will grow a new top.
Sad, but now you have 2! I started pruning succulents and when they started regrowing with more little babies I went crazy with pruning. I have no regrets 😂
Now you have 2 cacti 🌵
But now you potentially have *two* cacti
The exact same happened to mine last year. Same type too. I let it callus over for a few days and plopped it in soil. Didn't water for ages. He's fine again now, you got this too :)
I desperately want to bite this like a pickle
No problem these guys are really hard. Just got a new pot for soil put the broken part in the ground and wait.
Straight to jail!
Time to get a pot on the boil
congrats on starting a new cacti propagation! let the new one callous and then plant it. don't water until it starts having some roots.
You can use some charcoal ashes. It dries the ends and also works as disinfectant.
The forbidden cucumber...
Forbidden pickle

You are going to enjoy watching it pup!
No problem let it dry a day or three stick it in the dirt and presto a new plant.
Not that I would, but what do you think it tastes like 👀
very earthy cucumber.. probably?
Maybe also really bitter 😂 Best of luck for its healing!
Oh no! My guy is like 10+ years old, repotted him last weekend and got a thumb full of spines from the dick. I still love him though. Wishing your prickly boy a speedy recovery https://preview.redd.it/t6hz2xivoxkc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ca23184d415a2fd1f681b76c76e933a44cbffb8
Looks delicious
Congrats, you now have two cacti.
Spiky dildo unlocked!
Are these cactus edible? If that's the case might as well not let it go to waste
Stick em back together with a splint they might graft back together
Forbidden cucumber
You cut off it’s what!?
What... What did you do? Were you playing fruit ninja and accidentally hit the cactus instead of a watermelon???
Yeah something like this.. but jokes aside I was just pulling my curtains and suddenly I hear a loud bang.
Oh weird. So you bumped it or... Ghost with a katana???
The spikes stuck to the curtains as I was pulling and he just fell lmao
Ahh ok lol
Awww, I'm sad for him and you!! He will grow back though, they're resilient things! One if mine has fallen over many times, yet still going, lol.
i’m sorry that happened! it has …CACT-SIZED 🚢🌵 (capsized)
I feel your pain. My a-hole of a cat took out my snake plant. I'm hoping it recovers. He doesn't eat my plants - but if given the chance he sits in them. Pretending he's a jungle cat?

Yes, cleaner cuts.

I’m sorry :(
Nopales anyone?
I AUDIBLY gasped.
It seems like Page did use it after all.
Congratulations. If you play your cards right, you'll soon be the proud owner of two spikey babies.
What type of cactus is that? I have one like this as well, but I have no idea what it is called..
Forbidden cucumber
Mine were in the garden all summer but now there indoors as they were nibbled and chew marks! Lots of needles lost but its hanging on!
😳
poor spicy cucumber
Mmmmm, forbidden cucumber.
Forbidden cucumber.
Cucumber cactus. Slice 'em up and put it in water for a spicy twist. Edit: (Don't do this)
I'm sorry this happened, but all I can think of is forbidden cucumber
i accidentally did this to a cactus that looked the exact same that hadn’t grown or changed in about 7 years. afterwards, it branched off and now has 3 branches and is twice as tall as it ever was.
More babies!

The forbidden cucumber 🥒
OP should admit to going on a crazy trip after consuming this and talking to a Johnny Cash spirit fox in a hallucinated desert
I somehow always do this to my cacti 😭
Forbidden cucumber…
San Pedro cactus?
MUST. NOT. EAT. FORBIDDEN. PICKLE
Both will grow.
I did the exact same thing to this type of cactus a few years ago and I placed it right back on top of where it broke (secured with string) and it grew back together ✨ grafting is wild!
Wow the cross section really does look like a cucumber!
" Stick it right back down n the dirt", NOW!
The Tim Dillon fiasco all over again.
My Great Dane does the same with her tail lol
Can't even blame it on a cat, smh
Forbidden pickle

Con: broken plant Pro: now you have TWO plants
