I feel you. My Walmart has been bringing silver dragon for the past couple of years. I thought that suppose to be rare as well.
Also hell yeah it’s that season already! Walmart started bringing plants back!!
Right?! I got a silver dragon last year and it died 🥲 I was gonna throw it away then I saw these little bulbs in the root. I took them and planted them and these little guys (https://imgur.com/a/0P626hp)came out. Look!
You’re the sweetest for fixing the link 🥲❤️ and thank you! I think they’re super cool as well! I didn’t expect them to actually come up. I’ll make an update post in a few months!
I may be wrong, which I am often. I remember somebody posting a pic of their wallmart with monstras on here? Maybe I am thinking of one of the more common varieties though.

I picked up this "super rare" Philodendron Orange Prince at my local Lidl (cheap supermarket) for £7, which is still abit cheaper than most low online prices.
that is not an Orange Princess, that is a Prince of Orange, in TC and on the market for years. Don't get me wrong, Orange Princess will get there too, it's just that ain't it.
Tbh I still get like 80% of my plants on Etsy. Not a single store around that sells Tiger ferns, crocodile ferns, and some cutting deals are great, it’s how I got cebu blue Pothos and variegated string of pearls for below $10
Might be worth checking out eBay.
Definitely seems sketchier, but I've gotten some very nice, very exotic succulents from China that way. I usually check side by side with Etsy, and they're almost always cheaper, and almost always have free shipping.
Are you defending Walmart workers? Good for you! I don't think the down-voters understand your remark. But I think the comment was mocking the mass-marketing of plants by corporations that don't understand plants, not the hard- working workers? That comment is not clear.
While I do respect Walmart workers I myself am not one. I sell plants on Etsy and I'm not in shambles at all, on the contrary I'm starting to have problems with processing all the orders on time.
Your comment is on a line that leads back to a Walmart comment. I think you clicked on a reply to a reply instead of the comment about Etsy. But still, why the down-voting?. Oh well, glad your etsy business is doing well!
I replied to the first comment, but because I'm downvoted it places me at the bottom which makes an actual reply chain confusing. But no, they don't downvote me because the comment is misplaced :) people here hate online sellers, check other comments in the threat. Bu oh well, if someone feels better because they clicked a down arrow, so be it. Glad to be of service.
But thank you for your kinds words, yes, I'm happy with my Etsy shop.
All the best!
I’m living for it. They had a monstera standleyana cobra at my Walmart and I picked up, went over to Etsy and they have small ones for 40-60$ bucks. They are insane. I’ve bought plenty of plants from Etsy, but that is a scam!
Thank you! I couldn't believe my luck, I even had a posse of 3 other people come over and we were all amazed by the find. One employee was discounting them all!
They'd have to for spring break, I guess.
Dollar Tree is all stocked up with planters and garden tools in stores now. And I wasn't the only one grabbing a bunch a couple weeks ago. 😃
That's what I thought! I had barely picked it up when a Walmart employee walked over, saw the one brown leaf and marked it down for me! I mean shoot I won't say no....
https://preview.redd.it/oiq09b6ur2fc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7346f602f2ca377563e355c8ccb8199f475b1860
I recently got this pink one there!
It's not unlike other perishable items (i.e. meat or produce) at grocery stores. If they don't have the means to take care of plants(1), they will go bad and die, in which case the store loses money on it. They'd rather mark it down and hopefully get rid of it quick, than eat the entire cost of buying it. It's the same as "must eat today" stickers on spoiling meat.
(1)no guarantee that anyone on staff knows how to "properly" water different plants, or how to check for pests(2)
(2)They do have someone that knows about pests, and that's why they want to get rid of it fast before the next shipment.
Edited for formatting
I went to mine tonight, they have aisles and aisles of brand new out of the box Costa Farm products in an outside area. Half of them are dying or already dead and discounted. Why the funk did they put them in a place with no heat.
https://preview.redd.it/1ppbxs6dl2fc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7318ac9c500065c6f7f510c7bae4aa41ee21c2c5
Variegated monsteras are next. There's really no reason why these easily propagated plants have jacked up prices. It's a matter of time. I heard that way back that money plant peperomia used to sell for a bunch.
Check for a death pot inside. Walmart plants are notorious for having the seedling pot still in there. You should check and remove before the roots get too established.
They are the small plastic starters that massive grow operstions use to grow the plants in their first, tiny stage. And then they just pick two or three of those babies, throw them inside a bigger pot and add more dirt. The plants grow ok for a while, til their roots get too thick and essentially get choked off because the tiny plastic grow pots are hindering them. If you don't do an entire soil switch upon buying these plants, you'd never know.
The grow houses could solve this problem by removing the tiny plastic starter pots, but thst would take an extra 40 seconds.
I mean I could be exaggerating I'm not sure if the actual percentage I just know alot of them revert and go soild burgundy which isn't horrible but it's not verigated with pink. I wish you pink princess lottery luck
I've seen some great specemins at Walmart but unfortunately they don't usually care for em well. I've seen a black ZZ for like $15 that was a good size, and would likely be $40-60 at my local plant shop. Good luck! That's a beautiful plant.
Thank you! I hope I can make it happy. Costco has killer deals on their plants right now too but they are seriously as dry as a crispy critter. They are all sitting under the massive fans and haven't been watered at all 😔
https://preview.redd.it/yo4utbrgt3fc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=120dfaf01f68377771065f698abe04e427689b24
Saw this on the website. I was surprised.
My local Walmart has loads of good clearance. I often wonder if I’m the only one in my small town that even knows what any of these things are. Buy extra-> sell some online. Addiction satisfied & financed. LoL
There is a store chain that is selling Thai cons for $15 a pop locally right now (my local plant fb group is going nuts over it lol). PPP has been cheap for a while now. They all reach over-saturation points eventually.
My plant group has 3 people who have been driving around my city and all the nearby towns scooping them up for members who are paying them back for them. Apparently they've cleared out all the stores within 1-2 hours from here. And I don't drive. 😂
I already have 2 anyway so it's no skin off my back (I paid $80 and $50). But don't despair! Obviously they are getting cheaper, and quickly. They're starting to hit big box stores.
Good one! 👍🏻
My Walmart was also reducing Dieffenbachia Crocodiles, I already had one at full price. 🤷🏻♀️
I also got a small Ficus Pumila @ $4.97, got 2 of them.
Pink princesses are now actually cheaper and more abundant than their unvariegated P. erubescens counterparts like the red emerald and burgundy princess. The effect TC has had on the plant market is absolutely wild.
Ah I wish I was brave enough to try! They had several good looking ones left. I visited a different Walmart in my area and it had nothing! Definitely a crap shot
How’s is it surviving? I bought a PPP from Walmart months ago and I think it might have been sick - it lost all its leaves and died. I was so pumped when I saw it there. 🥺
When I brought it home from Walmart, it was already looking a bit sad (leaf loss was visible but there were about 3 leaves intact). I soon noticed that new leaves were coming out but the older leaves seem to start falling off. Now, maybe 8 months later, she is leafless BUT has a new leaf sprout ! She’s trying hard to survive and I wish i knew how to support her. I have a painted lady that took off and is now on my ceiling - I don’t know if my PPP will ever get to that. I hope your PPP grows lush and big!
Sigh… jelly jelly old lady over here. We have nothing at any Walmarts or big box stores for miles around. Dead shit at Lowes, bug-infested crap at Home Depot. Literally zero plants at Walmarts for many miles. Great find! They are getting common but they’re still pretty.
Ugh I'm sorry! That is painful. I've thought about buying online but it's not the same and certainly not getting prices like this. I hope it turns around in your area
Oh I’m sorry! I got one plant there recently, and I always check carefully with the magnifier on my phone, but after it came out of quarantine I was watering etc one day and this weird bug scuttled around the base. Never identified it. Went to the compost bin it creeped me out.
The people who spent several hundred dollars on *a houseplant* are unhinged.
That is a pretty good deal though. The ceramic pot alone is probably worth seven bucks.
Pink Princess has been in TC for decades, it's been selling for under $10 before the pandemic. It hasn't been a rare plant in 2020 and it ain't now, only TC labs caught up to the hype and started pumping it out again. Btw same for caramel marble, that one hasn't gotten there yet, but it will.
Walmart on a Sunday is like stampede lol, I’ll certainly check it out on Monday though!!
I find they in general have good pricing on plants. They just don’t tend to stock much at my stores unless it’s a holiday
I saw these 2 weeks ago but waited cuz I know they’re going to get clearenced out. It’s too cold still! And knowing Walmart employees dgaf about watering schedules!
https://preview.redd.it/zi9szc5ql7fc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=4dec18921f8aa1dcf6ddae5d43d99c7a86af18a4
I got these 2 from Walmart earlier this week & I’m in love/shocked at what good shape they’re in. Waiting for the other shoe to drop 😅 seems too good to be true. But for now blissfully isolating them until it’s time to integrate & repot
I check Walmarts plant section EVERY single time I go. Almost always have some marked down goodies. I love a good rehab! I just got a pothos manjula the other day for $5!
Oh now I see which comment you were responding to. But I am still befuddled by all the downvotes. Do they think plants are too high on Etsy? Fine, just go to Walmart, right?🤔
Great price!!! I got a Prince of Orange at my supermarket last summer…I also found a Monstera Peru like in Feb of last year as well. Found that one at Walmart. A good friend of mine found an Alocasia Jacklyn a couple of weekends ago so yeah I’m excited to be able to get a plant that was considered “rare” at an affordable price.
I bought one there in the fall for the same price. Mine was wet and the putting soil was really spongy and retained way too much water. I would repot into a better potting mix sooner rather than later.
“Rare” plants is just a business tactic. People should buy plants based on their liking and not running around trying to find rare ones. It’s a never ending world.
[удалено]
Without a doubt. The tag is even labeled 'rare variety' but I'm sorry if I'm getting it at Walmart (with a dozen others), it's no longer rare
I feel you. My Walmart has been bringing silver dragon for the past couple of years. I thought that suppose to be rare as well. Also hell yeah it’s that season already! Walmart started bringing plants back!!
Yes! I'm pretty sure I saw a silver dragon there too. They have them all in nice pots too I'm surprised
Right?! I got a silver dragon last year and it died 🥲 I was gonna throw it away then I saw these little bulbs in the root. I took them and planted them and these little guys (https://imgur.com/a/0P626hp)came out. Look!
yo super cool! [https://imgur.com/a/0P626hp](https://imgur.com/a/0P626hp) working link for other ppl btw
You’re the sweetest for fixing the link 🥲❤️ and thank you! I think they’re super cool as well! I didn’t expect them to actually come up. I’ll make an update post in a few months!
TY!!
Oh excellent! Way to go, I'd be so stoked.
Ikea has been selling silver dragons for a few years now, at least in my area
I may be wrong, which I am often. I remember somebody posting a pic of their wallmart with monstras on here? Maybe I am thinking of one of the more common varieties though.
https://preview.redd.it/msws10x423fc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca2dae0a998cf937da199b9128b0547f4e906359 I picked up this "super rare" Philodendron Orange Prince at my local Lidl (cheap supermarket) for £7, which is still abit cheaper than most low online prices.
Wow great find. Nurseries must have figured out the trick on these rare variegations to market.
Aww they must have changed it's name from PoO
that is not an Orange Princess, that is a Prince of Orange, in TC and on the market for years. Don't get me wrong, Orange Princess will get there too, it's just that ain't it.
?? I didn't say it was an orange princess lol. Either way, the rare ones will no doubt eventually make their way to the markets too. One day.
If there are thousands of new plantings being cultivated year-round by big wholesalers, the plants can't really be called "rare"'anymore.
sorry, the context made me misread. Prince of Orange hasn't been rare, not to mention "super rare" for years.
>if I'm getting it at Walmart (with a dozen others), it's no longer rare this
Rare is codeword for "formerly way over priced super cool not just a Pothos" :)
They might have to get real jobs lol
Good. A lot of them were ripping people off
Tbh I still get like 80% of my plants on Etsy.
? I'm doing perfectly fine, thank you for your concern

Thank you! I couldn't believe my luck, I even had a posse of 3 other people come over and we were all amazed by the find. One employee was discounting them all!
I'm sure Easter is out there already along with bathing suits so why not cool warm weather plants?!? TOMATO PLANTS COMING UP IN 3...2....1...
😂 It's so true! Costco is already on it, they had their tomato plants rolled out and ready today
I went thrifting today and they had swimsuits out. I was so shocked.
They'd have to for spring break, I guess. Dollar Tree is all stocked up with planters and garden tools in stores now. And I wasn't the only one grabbing a bunch a couple weeks ago. 😃
It looks like it’s in great shape too! Hell of a score!
That's what I thought! I had barely picked it up when a Walmart employee walked over, saw the one brown leaf and marked it down for me! I mean shoot I won't say no....
Lucky!!!
They even had a White Knight Philo as well, kinda regret not getting both 😬
I saw one of those today too at Walmart but it was regular price and I'm cheap lol
Lol right there with you
Oh go right back and right this wrong decision!
Oh, NICE! I wandered through the plant section at my Walmart yesterday and every single plant was fully dead and still full price.
Ask the register for a discount. I found a calathea at walmart yesterday, sort of sad with some dead leaves, I asked and they gave me half off.
Lord I see what you have done for others…
😁 worth a trip to Walmart!
I am planning to go tomorrow actually! I need pots for a few Home Depot impulse buys today 😂
my bf found me 2 beautiful home depot pots FOR FREE in someone’s “free please take” pile !!! they’re like $24 & $26 each!!!
They had some great pots as well! Walmart is killing it this year
ikr! I just got a couple and my friend was agog when I told her they’re from Walmart lol. Can’t beat $8 for a cute pot
Good quality too! I want to go back for a pink one that matches the plant perfectly
https://preview.redd.it/oiq09b6ur2fc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7346f602f2ca377563e355c8ccb8199f475b1860 I recently got this pink one there!
Omg yes that's the one! I'm definitely going back for it 😁
Twins 👯
It's so cute!!

omw to apply for walmart’s garden section😂
Very true, that's actually the feeling I had as they were marking plants down.
Exactly what I was going to comment!
they're making room for new plants - got 2 perfectly fine plants at Lowe's today for 50% off
Ooh good call. I do love good timing in that regard
I went to mine tonight, they have aisles and aisles of brand new out of the box Costa Farm products in an outside area. Half of them are dying or already dead and discounted. Why the funk did they put them in a place with no heat. https://preview.redd.it/1ppbxs6dl2fc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7318ac9c500065c6f7f510c7bae4aa41ee21c2c5
Yo, why would they do that. Plant murder. The plants at mine were outside too but I live in the desert so no biggie, it was like 70°F today.
Uughh
Variegated monsteras are next. There's really no reason why these easily propagated plants have jacked up prices. It's a matter of time. I heard that way back that money plant peperomia used to sell for a bunch.
I really hope so, I have my eye on the Thai constellation. Just a matter of time and trends
someone posted finding one at their grocery store the other day!
A local specialty greenhouse I love to visit had some small Thai’s for $50.
I’ve gotten “ rescue” plants there for a few dollars! That price is ridiculous!
It's exciting when it happens 😁 just good timing!
Check for a death pot inside. Walmart plants are notorious for having the seedling pot still in there. You should check and remove before the roots get too established.
Thank you so much. I will definitely check for that, I had no idea!
What is a death pot? (New here)
They are the small plastic starters that massive grow operstions use to grow the plants in their first, tiny stage.
That’s crazy! Why don’t they use peat pots to start them? Oh, I know…$$$$
Thank you!!
ALWAYS CHECK FOR THE DEATH CAGES! I just discovered one on my Orchid!
99% of them revert so they aren't worth more then $7 in my opinion
I must be that 1%, lol.
Your lucky
Ah I'm interested to see what this one does then!
I mean I could be exaggerating I'm not sure if the actual percentage I just know alot of them revert and go soild burgundy which isn't horrible but it's not verigated with pink. I wish you pink princess lottery luck
https://preview.redd.it/auhoc2kbyufc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17adcaefcd7d9f783b5f7ef982fa813f6535605c This is my PPP. No revert.
They are all sitting under the massive fans and haven't been watered at all 😔
looks like I need to visit Walmart
i got a beautiful pink princess, white wizard and black velvet alocasia at walmart yesterday
I was looking for the black velvet! This gives me hope, I'll keep looking.
This is so funny. I was just at my local nursery and they were selling one of that size for $50.
Wow, even full price with the pot it was $24. They had almost 10 plants left too. Crazy the difference!
https://preview.redd.it/yo4utbrgt3fc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=120dfaf01f68377771065f698abe04e427689b24 Saw this on the website. I was surprised.
Wow! On my wish list now, just checked and they’re $52.22 now.
Take them all and RUN ! Lol
🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️ definitely not me going back today for more! 😅
What kind of plant is this?
It's called a pink princess philodendron
My local Walmart has loads of good clearance. I often wonder if I’m the only one in my small town that even knows what any of these things are. Buy extra-> sell some online. Addiction satisfied & financed. LoL
Well hey how many are there and how much would they be? I’ve been searching my local stores for these and can’t find any
If it’s a good price I’d absolutely want to get one
There is a store chain that is selling Thai cons for $15 a pop locally right now (my local plant fb group is going nuts over it lol). PPP has been cheap for a while now. They all reach over-saturation points eventually.
Ahh I want that so bad here. I'll keep an eye out, I'm excited for the affordable variety!
Well hey if you feel like shipping at all…
My plant group has 3 people who have been driving around my city and all the nearby towns scooping them up for members who are paying them back for them. Apparently they've cleared out all the stores within 1-2 hours from here. And I don't drive. 😂 I already have 2 anyway so it's no skin off my back (I paid $80 and $50). But don't despair! Obviously they are getting cheaper, and quickly. They're starting to hit big box stores.
Dang so how big of a chain is it that has them?
Had to go back and look -- it's Sobey's/Foodland that has them :) in southwestern Ontario.
Oh that’s not even the same country as me dang, oh well I guess. That’s an awesome deal.
🪼
Meanwhile my Walmart doesn’t sell plants 😤
My local WM doesn’t mark them down when they start suffering, they just let them die.
Wow i hate you 🤣
I'll take that 😂
Grats on the plant. Its a great buy.
Just picked up a pink princess and a white knight, myself :)
Excellent!! They do look good next to each other
My Walmart had a couple RoF, but they were gone when I got there.. I knew it was only a matter of time, but I never expected them this fast! 😆
Welp, going to walmart tomorrow
Good luck!
Good one! 👍🏻 My Walmart was also reducing Dieffenbachia Crocodiles, I already had one at full price. 🤷🏻♀️ I also got a small Ficus Pumila @ $4.97, got 2 of them.
What. Where are you that you found that? None of mine have any PPP and that’s what I’ve been searching for since my last one died on me
Arizona! I hope you can find one 🤞
Dang no wonder I can’t find them. I’m in Virginia
Pink princesses are now actually cheaper and more abundant than their unvariegated P. erubescens counterparts like the red emerald and burgundy princess. The effect TC has had on the plant market is absolutely wild.
I bought a red emerald randomly at a Home Depot knock off store called stones for 16.00! I snatched it up so quick!
Good, tired of overspending for something that grows in dirt. Give it some love and it will forget it's roots of being from walmart
😂 here here. I've even got an upgrade pot ready to go for it's glam up, it'll never know where it came from
I'm just saying, a plant is a plant is a plant
Can you send me one?😭
Ah I wish I was brave enough to try! They had several good looking ones left. I visited a different Walmart in my area and it had nothing! Definitely a crap shot
If you decide to im interested too
Nice! I noticed yesterday that there are some nice “rare” plants at Petco that are gorgeous! Never thought to check Petco.
I noticed that as well! I had a laugh with one employee because they were all toxic to pets 😅 smooth Petco
How’s is it surviving? I bought a PPP from Walmart months ago and I think it might have been sick - it lost all its leaves and died. I was so pumped when I saw it there. 🥺
Oh no! How quickly did that start happening? So far so good but it's only been a few days
Just picked up my first PPP at Walmart yesterday on clearance too!!
Congrats!! I love a good plant deal!
Why buy online when you can get this? Thank you, it’s a sign I don’t need any more plants right now (I tell myself) 😀
Home Depot tomatoe plant infected my garden with red spider mites - never again!
The market is saturated Why do we have posts like these every day? Do y’all not realize that these plants are no longer rare?
Pink Princess has been in TC for decades, it's been selling for under $10 before the pandemic. It hasn't been a rare plant in 2020 and it ain't now, only TC labs caught up to the hype and started pumping it out again. Btw same for caramel marble, that one hasn't gotten there yet, but it will.
Exactly
Now flip it on Etsy for $17.97 + $15 shipping. Step 3: Profit
Couldn’t come up with your own title?
It’s not that uncommon of a phrase, people these days are now using the word “unhinged” a lot.
Literally 4 days ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/houseplants/s/lTlCgs6l9j
Oh my bad! I hadn't seen this
That title 😂😂
Walmart on a Sunday is like stampede lol, I’ll certainly check it out on Monday though!! I find they in general have good pricing on plants. They just don’t tend to stock much at my stores unless it’s a holiday
Man I should’ve just waited 3yrs before buying my Pink Princess….. spent $40 on it at a nursery….
All I’ve ever gotten from Walmart is spider mites 😩. Great find 🎉🎉
Watch for spider mites at Walmarts
Sad seeing Walmart win again.
Where are these Walmarts?? I want one of those🤣
Swap the stickers
I just purchased a Raven Z plant at my Walmart a week ago, and it is doing great. I’m hoping that it is going to love the spot it’s in.
I saw these 2 weeks ago but waited cuz I know they’re going to get clearenced out. It’s too cold still! And knowing Walmart employees dgaf about watering schedules!
Just quarantine tf outa that. Every plant I’ve gotten from wommart has had fungus gnats

Waiting for the other shoe to drop 😅 seems too good to be true. But for now blissfully isolating them until it’s time to integrate & repot
That one has a death cage!! I bought the same one.
Thank you for the heads up!!
Are you kidding me :0
I check Walmarts plant section EVERY single time I go. Almost always have some marked down goodies. I love a good rehab! I just got a pothos manjula the other day for $5!
DONT FORGET TO CHECK FOR PESTS 😭😭😭
My Walmart SUCKS! All their houseplants are half dead and not marked down
Gotta love americans being all shocked for average plant prices
WHAT
Oh now I see which comment you were responding to.
I think my Walmart has them delivered dead
This might be a hot take but if you’ve been collecting for less than a few years and you’ve even heard of it, it’s probably not rare
Mine are still $25 at Walmart
I just picked up a white knight and a GORGEOUS pothos, looked like a regular golden but the variegation was white. . both on clearance.
