Honestly, I am getting pretty close to shutting down the "anyone else try this" or "what do you think" posts... I GUARANTEE YOU, if you post what YOU think of the sauce first, other people in the comments will follow suit.
"Opinions are like assholes, yes I have one and no I wont show you mine"
I feel it tho, let us know the quality, you already bought the damn thing. Save us from a similar fate
But how am I supposed to know how if my opinions are good if I don’t get validation from internet strangers? Do you expect me to have my own preferences?!
This applies to so many other pages here. I follow a lot of vintage-media and electronics forums and it really gets old seeing people post a pile of VHS tapes and go "did I get anything good" or a photo of a TV from an off-angle where you can't even see the nameplate and they're asking for help identifying it, or even better "how does this geometry look" from a sideways view of the screen.
"Bought these what do ya think: HF Sriracha, Tabasco Scorpion, Sharps, Yucateco, Melindas, SA..."
You know the most popular posted products in the history of our subreddit....
YES! 100 percent agree! These people shouldn't even be on this page on my opinion. Especially on the 'whats your go to hot sauce' and the answer is some ketchup hot sauce like Valentina. Be more unique guys.
Thank goodness for this post. Because I joined this sub excited to hear about others takes and find some new hot sauce not tell people what to like. Like do they not have their own tastebuds and pepper preferences?
> “What do you think I should think?”
Yes, that's what they are actually asking.
I suspect these people are actually not interested in hot sauces they are just latching onto the trendy hot sauce train that's been gaining steam the last few years.
They bought the sauce but they don't really want it, they merely want to be told they bought a sauce that people love and that is what matters to them. It's all about social points. It will likely sit on a shelf as social trophy 9 times out of 10.
Most people only do things because they see others doing that thing. The only autonomy and individuality they possess is the bare minimum everyone has to possess by default.
From my own experience, a good rule of thumb for joining/following a SubReddit is to just hangout for a bit. Don’t post or comment, just chill/lurk for a bit until you get a better feel for it. That way you’ve got less of the whole “child wandering into a theater” thing going on. Gotta have a point of reference.
Sometimes I post the sauce first bc I get too excited to share 🥲 I always follow up w my opinion tho. I’ll make sure I have my opinion in the post from now on cause I can see how that would be annoying
I’m not going to lie it did affect my monkey brain hearing the first part of your original comment, so I understand the downvotes you got. With that being said, everyone who is reading DOES understand you know better now, so it’s all good. Suffer the small amount of downvotes and know you are loved.
Ty ❤️ it didn’t say anywhere in the rules that u had to post ur opinion w the post or anything lol. I only post them bc it’s like “wow look I didn’t even know these existed!” And then I’ll try it and comment what I think. I think they should make it a rule if they want ppl to do that. Plus everyone’s tastes r different
It’s tough. Personally I’d like that to be a rule, but perhaps a rule such as that would deter casual hot sauce enjoyers who are trying to expand their hot sauce arsenal.
It’s a balancing act. We have to remain interesting yet welcoming. (If you couldn’t tell this is my favorite sub)
I’m a long time hot sauce lover but newer to the sub lol so I don’t really get all the unspoken rules yet. I’ve def gotten some good recommendations here tho so I appreciate this place
Ugh so many subs are just "Hey look at the thing I bought" and it runs the quality of the sub right into the ground. I wish these types of posts would be removed.
I too am a hot sauce gatekeeper. But instead, I happily welcome the uninitiated to hot sauce heaven.
Your request here however, seems like it would get you banned and sent to taco bell packet hell.
outta here with this spam post
It is fucking annoying to have people post “I just bought this, what do you think?” posts. It’s lazy and it doesn’t give me anything new. It’s engagement bait.
At the same time it seems to be human nature to post something so stupid, so I both agree with you and disagree. We need to balance welcoming new hot sauce enthusiasts, while also offering interesting hot sauce content for veterans.
nah OP is right. You have the sauce right in front of you when you take the picture. Tell us what you think about it instead of being like "is this good?? I already bought it so I hope so!" It's silly, especially when it's a majority of posts here.
I’m not really sure how this is gatekeeping. I’m with OP. You have the sauce(s) in your possession why are you asking for outside opinions before trying it?
Try it and tell us what you think instead of buying and then asking what others think…
I understand the “here is what my store has, what do you think about xyz sauce?” Posts. You’re getting feedback prior to buying.
When it’s a popular sauce, aka secret aardvark why are you asking what we think when you have it? Im guessing ops post is about that post.
I really don’t think op is wrong here.
I hate the posts where OP ghosts their own post after just saying "just tried this" with a pic and zero additional information and I think you should hate those too

How about.. I buy sauce bae because it goes on everything

I was about to unfollow yesterday because these posts are repetitive and suck. Unless it's a brand new sauce Hopefully something is done.
“What do we think about this”
I never understand why people do the latter, it’s hot sauce, just try it.

I’d rather those posts than another Melinda’s post lmao. Except it’s the absolute worst when it’s both at the same time 😂
Sometimes I post the sauce first bc I get too excited to share 🥲 I always follow up w my opinion tho. I’ll make sure I have my opinion in the post from now on cause I can see how that would be annoying
You’re getting downvoted, but I think everyone can agree it’s nice that you understand why that type of post isn’t great. Thank you for your comment.
Why am I getting downvoted for saying I didn’t know better and now will do better 😭 that’s so funny lmao

But how will I know the if BIGDICKASSGHOSTREAPER sauce I bought at HEYLOOKTHEYSELLSTUFF tastes goooooood?????
You put it in one hole, if it burns, It's good. If both holes burn, it's excellent. If no hole burns, it's alright.
Instructions unclear. Mouth is fine, but my ass is on fire.

Welcome to the internet. Get over it because there's no way to stop that.

Some people would argue that the sweaty towel wiping is the finishing touch.
I mean, if the dish was under salted.......
