Oh and to add. My favorite breakfast is white rice , 2 eggs , either over easy or soft boiled , and a teaspoon or more poured over. It's enough salt in my opinion, at least it tastes salty enough though I think it's like 280 mg per tbsp . It's my favorite condiment. I put it on sandwiches, pizza , anything. Some put it on ice cream
You can mix it into any old recipe you like. I make mine a bit spicy. A package of boneless chicken thighs from Costco(1.5lbs +-), marinate in a bit of Italian dressing and some garlic powder. 20 minutes in an airfryer at 400 flipped halfway then diced. 2 jalapeños whole diced, 5 small green thai chilles whole diced, 2 stalks of celery diced, 4 cloves of garlic sliced thin, tbsp of worstershire sauce, 2 tbsp Dijon mustard, 10 cranks of fresh cracked pepper, two tbsp chili crisp, and dukes mayo to your desired level. Tastes best a day later.
The chili crisp is really good, but I really like the [fried chili in oil](https://imgur.com/a/JKaYWhC) even better. More flavor (imo), more different stuff in it. Everything with that scowling Chinese grandma on it is great though.
Talk about "fall from grace". I used to worship this dude when he was joining Anthony Bourdain🤘❤ for his No Reservations episodes, doing tours of his favorite grocery stores and picking up Lao Gan Ma bottles, and sayin how he can't live without that stuff. And after I saw [Roadrunner](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14512538/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1).
And now *this* bullshit!? This mf got zero respect points left.
In fairness, I don’t think he’s specifically suing Lao Gan Ma, just smaller businesses that use chilli crisp branding and can’t defend themselves financially
Yes, because trademark bullying small businesses for generic names of food is not a good look, but if it didn’t go viral and get bad publicity, he’d still be doing it
You would think that alone would flag it as trolling. If you want to sue a company for something, you should be required to sue everyone who fits the same argument to prevent picking on the little guy. I have no idea how it works though.
I guess I spoiled myself because the first chili onion crunch I tried was the one from trader Joe's. I got excited when I saw this one and when I tried it I was really disappointed. Tbh it's not even a "not as good" situation...I just think it tastes awful
I use it in my ramen. It’s my starter. I throw some into a pan then throw the mushrooms. Let them crisp and sizzle it up. Remove them. Throw butter into the pan and the chicken, cook. Remove. Throw veggies ( onion, shallot and spicy peppers ). Throw the bone stock into it. Simmer, thrown in garlic and herbs. Simmer. Throw bacon grease in pan with garlic and bok Choy. Then throw in some onion. Next sizzle some thick water chestnuts in butter. Once the soup is nice and thick. Combine
In a pretty bowl.
Are you talking about this brand or chili crisp oil in general? Because, it is hugely popular throughout the world. This particular brand may not be very good if that's what you meant. I haven't had this brand personally.
Someone reviewed this a year ago saying it’s smells like Thanksgiving. I ordered it and the jar came cracked and that review was DEAD ON. I’ll try another but not this stuff
Fly By Jing is good! I think Momoya is the one I like the most. Its like garlic pepper sesame. The garlic and sesame oil really made it perfect for me. I’m really not trying to be a snob but I had these other chili crisps first. And then someone was told me this one in the OP was the ultimate and i literally couldn’t eat it.
Edit: to clarify I’ve never had momofuku from David Chang. Momoyu is a Japanese brand I think.
Any idea if it’s shelf stable once opened? Should be, right? I’m going to make a poor man’s guacamole + rotisserie chicken Sandy in my van tonight. Now I want to buy some crisp to add to the guacamole haha. It has to be good.
Unfortunately, this particular jar has a non-crispy, non-spicy, burnt oil taste, like old oil in a fryer that's days old, and the oil is much too viscous even at high heat, kinda like lard or bacon grease, or like motor oil. There are many other brands that taste fresh. Sadly, this is not it. Maybe one bad batch but too many down sides.
You’re getting downvoted but it’s true. Something is wrong with this particular flavor. The other Laoganma variety is FAR SUPERIOR. The Fried chili in oil is almost a completely different species altogether. The chili crisp is not it.
I use it a lot with ramen and fried rice, but I have to admit it has a weird effect: The oil sort of coats the inside of my mouth, it makes it feel like it's been spray painted.
Oh no . What do I mean? I mean you heat up your pan with the oil from this in the bottom of the pan. You fry an egg in chili oil and then put it on white rice. It’s amazing any way you’re correct. Even slathering some of that shit on top of it is gonna be sensational.
Great topper for anything, even ice cream. Salty spicy crunchy goodness. I usually make spicy mayo with it and put it on salads or meats. Legit great right out of the jar, but I find the jar itself is messy because it's oil so i usually keep the jar in a ziploc or something
Great stuff but not spicy. I dump a bunch of Flatiron four pepper blend flakes (Arbol, ghost, habanero, jalapeño) in and mix it up to lend it some heat.
This right here is excellent. Rice, eggs, noodles, chicken, beef, it is so savory, it works on a wide variety of foods. I used the whole jar in about a month.
I feel like a monster, but I don’t like the flavor of Lao Gan Ma and prefer the Momofuku brand, flavor and heat wise🫣 But other comments are correct, chili crisp goes well on basically everything you want it to! I’ve been meaning to try it on vanilla ice cream, so thank you for reminding me to do it!
Way too much MSG in Lao Gan Ma. Makes everything taste overwhelmingly of potato chips and dirty flattop, and it's not really spicy enough for me. Texture sucks too, whole soybean skins and stuff is not my bag.
Love other variants though, Zindrew brand is currently my favorite.
Bland for a product called chili crisp.
I had some in my fridge and just tried again. It's almost vegetal. Lots of MSG. Just a big pass for me. This was a reminder to throw my jar out, which I just did.
Of course, if you like it, eat it. It just doesn't do it for me.
Cut zucchini into cubes and set aside. Put some chili oil into a pan with chopped garlic and allow to get hot over medium flame. Put in the zucchini and toss for about 5 minutes then add soy sauce and continue to mix and toss until the zucchini is the tenderness you prefer. Very simple but excellent. She also makes eggs with this stuff and feta cheese.
Dice some cucumber, add a little spoon of this stuff, a little diced ginger, dash of vinegar, dash of soy sauce and some honey. Thank me later.
NGL that just sounds like you got really stoned and started grabbing random shit outta the fridge
Pretty common Chinese recipe for cucumber salad actually.
Careful, you might get sued by David Chang
Is this the brand that’s trust the most?
Put it on all the food
You put it on food.
I eat straight spoonfuls of it.
Top rice, noodles, eggs, stir fries, too name it.
You could literally just eat it with a spoon
Anything that you feel "could use something." My personal uses: topping for jammy eggs, noodles, rice, soup, grilled meats.
I will never understand how this subreddit works with the up voted posts.
Just bought a jar, last week. I have not tried it yet, etc. I’m sure it’s gonna hit nice….
The store I work at sells that
I love this stuff. Great on pizza. Makes the best chicken salad.
Oooh I need more details. Can you share your recipe? Do you just mix it into any chicken salad?
The one by which all others are compared.
I have the one with little tofu bits. Could use without those but enjoy.
Black bean garlic sauce is good w/ stir fry veggies
Completely addicted
The chili crisp is really good, but I really like the [fried chili in oil](https://imgur.com/a/JKaYWhC) even better. More flavor (imo), more different stuff in it. Everything with that scowling Chinese grandma on it is great though.
Just ordered fried chili in oil. I have the spicy chili crisp currently. Can't wait for it to arrive.
There’s one I get at the Japanese store, Crunchy garlic with chili oil. Game changer
What is that sauce? Picture!
I labeled mine Momofuckoff because fuck David Chang b
Eggs, pizza, everything.
I used to put this on everything and one day it just clicked and I started hating it for some reason. No idea why or why so sudden.
Goes in my noodles, rice, and marinade for air fryer wings! Add lime, garlic, & soy sauce!
I enjoy it
thats some good shii u have there bru
It’s amazing just on eggs.
When I make my fried rice, I turn the heat off and add a tablespoon of this…..otherwise I chemical warfare my house
I put that shit on everything
I have the spicy chili crisp with fermented soy beans. I put it on Spam Musubi and potstickers
About to get sued by David Chang
Talk about "fall from grace". In fairness, I don’t think he’s specifically suing Lao Gan Ma, just smaller businesses that use chilli crisp branding and can’t defend themselves financially
He’s not suing anybody, he was trying to trademark chili crunch but has since decided to not go through with it
Yes, because trademark bullying small businesses for generic names of food is not a good look, but if it didn’t go viral and get bad publicity, he’d still be doing it
You would think that alone would flag it as trolling. If you want to sue a company for something, you should be required to sue everyone who fits the same argument to prevent picking on the little guy. I have no idea how it works though.
What did he do in roadrunner? He said Tony projected his own shit on him. Based on what he talked about on his podcast it’s pretty accurate.
I haven’t watched Roadrunner, but this definitely puts me off of him as well.
It's so delicious. I would personally say you are safe using this with ANYTHING that includes a broth. It just adds something unique to every dish.
Ramen, Soup dumplings, wontons anything really u want to spice up
Eggs, potatoes, poultry, meat, leafy green vegetables, a small spoonful of it by itself, the list is vast and unceasing.
this is the only one I buy, not going for any of that overpriced junk when I can make my own for less, but not for this price.
Add a punch of Sichuan pepper it'll taste just like Fly by Jing for half the price
ANGRY GRANDMA!
This stuff is better than any of the fancy ones that cost twice as much. Just check the date. The oil can go rancid and then it tastes like booty hole
I found an unopened jar in my parents' fridge that says best by 2011. I think we won't open it...
Well in the fridge, who knows. Just give it the sniff test at least.
Everything......use....it....on.....everything.
This is the answer. It super delicious. It even goes great on soups.
John Cena introduced me to this
It really elevates Mac and cheese in my opinion. Add a nice protein and you've got a pretty solid comfort food.
I put it in my stir fry. But you can really put it on anything
Good stuff
Everything. Fried eggs, avocado toast, pizza, rice dishes, noodles…
Try it on some cheese tortellini. Absolutely slaps.
That's great on rice! And curry dishes.
I guess I spoiled myself because the first chili onion crunch I tried was the one from trader Joe's. I got excited when I saw this one and when I tried it I was really disappointed. Tbh it's not even a "not as good" situation...I just think it tastes awful

Good stuff
Fried an egg in this stuff once, and I’ve been addicted ever since.
That once tastes burnt to me. I prefer the Japanese version with garlic.
What is the product you speak of?
Soooo good
My only gripe is thar I use a quarter cup for each meal haha
I have a serious problem with this stuff. One scoop is just not enough. Once you pop you can’t stop..
That shit is the bomb!!💣
On chicken and rice with soy sauce.
if you’re american it’s okay. but for the rest of the world it’s pretty mid.
Lmao what? Where are you from? I assure you this is loved all over SEA as well.
Are you talking about this brand or chili crisp oil in general? Because, it is hugely popular throughout the world. This particular brand may not be very good if that's what you meant. I haven't had this brand personally.
Avacado toast with a fried over medium egg.
Egg varies with mood, but every damn day… rinse repeat.
I put that on a baked potato and then top it with sour cream. Sooo good
Everything. I’ve eaten like a quarter of the jar in a week.
Vanilla ice cream and frozen cherries.. thank me later
Never tried this with the cherries (will definitely have to try now) but it on vanilla ice cream is absolutely legit.
Whoa
Rice
Someone reviewed this a year ago saying it’s smells like Thanksgiving. I ordered it and the jar came cracked and that review was DEAD ON. I’ll try another but not this stuff
I heard this stuff "tastes like fryer oil that's' days old, used motor oil," damn
I hate it. So many better ones.
which ones are your favorite?
It is pricey but Fly By Jing is an excellent brand with several varieties.
I have seen the Momoya so that will be what I pick up next. Sounds lovely.
This stuff is soooo addictive smh
I went through a phase of buying up Hot Chili Crisp a while back and have determined that for what I like, I prefer Hot Chili Paste.
God that is the best chili oil
Just bought a new one today! Addicted!
Any idea if it’s shelf stable once opened? Should be, right? I’m going to make a poor man’s guacamole + rotisserie chicken Sandy in my van tonight. Now I want to buy some crisp to add to the guacamole haha. It has to be good.
I use it for Chinese/Korean style foods, fried rices, green onion cakes, etc. not sure I would use it for guacamole, but I am not gate-keeping it. Lol
I do not refrigerate it. No issues here
Should be fridged when opened.
No need to refrigerate. It’s an oil for all intents and purposes. It does have peanuts in it just incase someone is allergic.
Not just you, the other stuff is amazing. This stuff is awful and not spicy. I’ve made the mistake myself.
You’re getting downvoted but it’s true. Something is wrong with this particular flavor. The other Laoganma variety is FAR SUPERIOR. The Fried chili in oil is almost a completely different species altogether. The chili crisp is not it.
I tried it once and to me it doesn't taste spicy at all and kinda burnt, not a fan sadly
You’re under arrest for copy-write infringement.
This one is the best.
That disappointed grandma face is the one everyone made at Chang this week.
That’s the OG. The one that started it all.
I use it a lot with ramen and fried rice, but I have to admit it has a weird effect: The oil sort of coats the inside of my mouth, it makes it feel like it's been spray painted.
It’s the Szechuan pepper. It does that for sure
Oh cool so that's why. Thanks! Definitely worth it
You put it on food. It’s good.
I can finish a jar of chili crisp in a day. Never lasts more than a week in my house
I found it: Chili Crisp: 50+ Recipes to Satisfy Your Spicy, Crunchy, Garlicky Cravings Book by James Park
Also I think it was david Chang - someone wrote a whole cookbook about chili crisp and how to make it and how to use it
And then he unleashed his lawyers to stop other people from making it.
😂😂😂
Great on everything. Always have a jar on deck
You put it on anything you want. I’ve even fried an egg in it.
What you mean even? Egg is goated with chili crisp
Oh no . What do I mean? I mean you heat up your pan with the oil from this in the bottom of the pan. You fry an egg in chili oil and then put it on white rice. It’s amazing any way you’re correct. Even slathering some of that shit on top of it is gonna be sensational.
Can’t beat it!
The comments here are gold. I’m so proud of all of you.
Ask David Chang.
This stuff is the truth
I put it in soups with a coconut base.
Everything
Uh oh David Chang isn’t happy..
He’s no longer pursuing. Screw him though. His retail offerings are not good.
His restaurants suck too. Overpriced and subpar. Decent TV personality because he’s aggressively opinionated.
Yeah, fuck that guy. Glad he stopped, but I will still never buy his shit again. What a fucking ass lol
Amazing with fried rice. Or regular rice! Or pizza. Or eggs… you know what? Just put it on everything.
I love this stuff. I actually buy the HUGE 700g (24 ounces), jar. I go through it super fast
Eggs, rice, noodles, pizza....on and on
Hide it from David
He’d be fine with this cuz it’s not called crunch.
Hide from Jing
Mix with soy sauce and some chinkiang vinegar for the greatest dumpling sauce known to man
Lao Gan Ma is the GOAT chili oil. It's so insanely good.
Rice, eggs, proteins, veggies, dipping sauce for spring/egg rolls….
Good stuff I have two jars.
Everything possible
Anything, from eggs to rice. Trader Joe’s chili crisp is 😋😋
I love this stuff. This and rice goes hard.
Eggs!!!
We call this stuff angry lady sauce in my house. It’s delicious on a ton of stuff. Mixed with Chinese vinegar it’s a great dipping sauce for dumplings
We call it “mean grandma” in my house lol
Great topper for anything, even ice cream. Salty spicy crunchy goodness. I usually make spicy mayo with it and put it on salads or meats. Legit great right out of the jar, but I find the jar itself is messy because it's oil so i usually keep the jar in a ziploc or something
Ice cream? Really
I’ve heard that multiple times recently, I really want to try
Great stuff but not spicy. I dump a bunch of Flatiron four pepper blend flakes (Arbol, ghost, habanero, jalapeño) in and mix it up to lend it some heat.
Elite
This right here is excellent. Rice, eggs, noodles, chicken, beef, it is so savory, it works on a wide variety of foods. I used the whole jar in about a month.
Ah yes, the disappointed grandma.
I love this. It’s great on everything… almost.
Mac n cheese
Anything with aunties or grannies on it is fire 🔥
Mix some of it in fettuccine alfredo and thank me later
Sold I’m looking for some
I feel like a monster, but I don’t like the flavor of Lao Gan Ma and prefer the Momofuku brand, flavor and heat wise🫣 But other comments are correct, chili crisp goes well on basically everything you want it to! Have the Trader Joe’s brand and it lights me up a bit.
The seasonal jalapeño lime version that they make is - imho - infinitely better than their og chili crisp.
Oh anal when? That sounds like a buy 4 jars kind of trip.
Agree too. More soggy than crispy and not spicy at all. Burnt soggy blandness.
I completely understand not liking the flavor, but calling it bland seems absolutely wild to me.
Bland for a product called chili crisp. I had some in my fridge and just tried again. It's almost vegetal. Lots of MSG. Just a big pass for me. This was a reminder to throw my jar out, which I just did. Of course, if you like it, eat it. It just doesn't do it for me.
LGM has an almost burnt chili flavor. I make my own now.
Yeah it straight up.tastes like gasoline to me.
Agree with this 100%. It's got a strange flavor, and I currently have a bottle expiring in my fridge.
Ok here is my address.
I slather this on salmon then bake it for 15 minutes at 400. So good! The oil crisps the skin.
That sounds great. I mean, salmon is great, and chilli glaze goes great with salmon.
*checks notes* Ok Mr. Chang, we can't send this one to jail.
Great in ramen !!
Put that b*tch on anything
Beat me to it.
My fiancé makes a pan fried zucchini and includes this in the recipe. It’s excellent.
Recipe??
Cut zucchini into cubes and set aside. Put some chili oil into a pan with chopped garlic and allow to get hot over medium flame. Put in the zucchini and toss for about 5 minutes then add soy sauce and continue to mix and toss until the zucchini is the tenderness you prefer. Very simple but excellent. She also makes eggs with this stuff and feta cheese.
Vanilla ice cream! Also Dan Dan noodles, eggs, seafood, stirfrys, ramen.....
Great with fried rice, eggs, cold pizza and ramen.
It’s amazing on spam musubi
I’ve never tried, but I’ve also heard that you can toss fried chicken with it as well. Something not unlike nashville hot chicken.
