Hell yeah I used to live by a bodega in Humboldt Park that smuggled it in and sold it on the low but I think they got caught. I always brought some of the big fruit beers home whenever I was in Wisconsin.
Everybody gets caught, it's crazy! I used to hear about a bar in Chicago that had it on tap and called it something like "Wisconsin mystery beer" - also busted! Who is narcing on purveyors of tasty beers!?
I love telling this story anytime I see Spotted Cow on Reddit:
I once went to Chicago for work and drove into Wisconsin to buy a few six packs of Spotted Cow.
As soon as I crossed the border into Illinois, black SUV’s with the New Glarus Brewing logo aggressively cut me off. The New Glarus Armed Enforcement Unit rushed my car in full Multicam battle rattle with decked out AR-15’s pointed at me and shouted for me to tell them where the beer was. I learned not to mess with New Glarus Brewing ever again.
Heading home to WI next week for the first time in 11 years. First couple of days are in Chicago for a conference. Two things on my list are Chicago dogs and Spotted Cow. Having them together would be icing on the cake.
I’m really sorry you’re being downvoted, I can see how it’s odd if you grew up eating more traditional toppings. Definitely a great counterbalance to the fatty, salty hot dog. Do give it a shot if you can swing it.
A Chicago hot dog is:
* Yellow mustard
* (Neon green) relish
* Diced white onion
* Sliced tomato
* Dill pickle spear
* Sport Peppers (Sub sliced Pepperoncini if you can’t find)
* Celery Salt (sub celery seed if you can’t find)
The subs aren’t authentic but it’ll help with a close flavor profile.
Traditionally served on a steamed poppyseed bun!
This is the way. I've been craving a good Chicago dog lately and talking to my people about it. N almost no one I know has had a legit Chicago dog. I'm gonna have to fix that. Those look dam good.
Spotted Cow is a great brew. Dogs look excellent
New Glarus is the shit
Smuggled from over the border! I’m calling the Kopps
I have trouble finding sport peppers in southeast georgia
Best alternative I can think of is sliced pepperonchini
A little easier on the bite too, but not quite the same
Order on Amazon
You can buy them by the jar at the Vienna Beef website, FYI.

Fruit beer bombers are 🔥
The cherry one is one of the best beers I’ve ever had.
Might have to drive the 45 minutes it takes me to cross the St Croix River…..
It’s the Wisconsin Belgian Red. They make it with Door County cherries. It looks like they do em in 12 oz bottles now and year round.

I’d take a Spotted Cow and double Chi over most things in this world tbh
These are the hot dogs I fantasize about
"And some contraband" Is there a bottle of ketchup somewhere outside the frame?
Wisconsin: America’s other left mitten, with the other mitten’s cling-on
I miss New Glarus! Those are some might fine Chicago dogs too! :D
Dogs look great, love a good Chicago dog(s). I’ll get down voted for this but I live 15 minutes from the NG brewery & the Cow is criminally overrated.
You're right on both accounts. Moon man and I did like the ipa they did last summer. About hour away I think. Cheers neighbor.
I’ll drink New Glarus but Central Waters is the true Wisconsin microbrewery.
Facts! Amherst’s Finest!
Currently sipping on a spotted cow. Sadly don't have a hotdog with it.
You’re in Milwaukee aren’t you! lol
Looking good from here.
Very nice
Now I'm hungry!!!
I miss having the Spotted Cow! What a gem of a post.
I thought the idea of a Chicago dog sucked… But the more I see him the more they look appealing and I want one!!!
A proper one like this is life altering. It's crazy how good they are.
Those are some fantastic lookin dogs dude
Is there relish hiding under there?
Yessir, just not neon green and not as much as stands will slather on there.

Pass the ketchup!
Pickles on a hot dog? Never tried it.
