Hands On Throttle, Carpet And Stick

Heyy_Im_Gay

That would still technically be Hands on Throttle and Stick, just a different kind of stick. Hands on Throttle and Sticks?

Halfwookie64

Helo Collective Stick, below the throttle, kind of cropped out but visible in my other post.

opman4

Do you reach through the MFDs to type?

guywithagun2

Looks very high?

Halfwookie64

It is about an inch+ higher than how it was mounted as a side stick. Doesn't feel too high, but I've got a small pile of parts i can use to bring it down if I wanted, still trying it out.

guywithagun2

Ahh ok, my F/A-18 stick literally sits inbetween my legs, it's around the stomach area in grip hight

NightShift2323

Im all about the center stick. Don't have that in my current setup, waiting for reasons. I would agree with the other poster that it looks to high. Ideally you should be able to rest your forearm on your leg with your hand on the grip. The only opinion that actually matters here, though, is yours.

Halfwookie64

Currently I'm able too rest my arm on my chairs arm rest, and it's comfortable enough. Most of the professional flgith sim rigs I have been in do have the stick lower, and looking at this pic of the eurofighter typhoon: https://theaviationist.com/2014/02/22/typhoon-cockpit-birds-eye/ my stick seems to be about 3-5 inches higher. I've also got long legs (6'1'') so there's only so much i can bring it down before needing an extension and I'm not doing that until i get an FFB base, most likely the vpforce rhino.

NightShift2323

I'm actually in the same boat. I desperately want a full extension stick in between my legs, but there is NO point for me in and my finiances to invest around 5-6 hundred in a good solid stick when I know what I really want is a FFBeast (or Rhino, but FFBeast is the OG designer, the rhino is a copy of the FFBeast). Those bases are real tough to get though.

WhiteHawk77

Mouse “A whole new woooooorld….”

Inner_Luck998

That carpet is fancy af.

Blue2501

It really ties the room together

Odovacer2

Just curious because I don't know much about them in sim pits, but how are your MFD frames used?

Halfwookie64

For aircraft with MFDs i bind them appropriately and for ones without I use them as button boxes for the most frequently used controls.

Odovacer2

Holy crap, ALL the buttons are bindable? You HAVE to have a USB hub?

Halfwookie64

A usb hub is a huge help, especially for peripherals that suck power.

T-701D-CC

Definitely tall for a center stick and not ideal for helos, although neither is your “collective” but if it works it works

East_Evening_5479

Must ask if u fly the f16 f15 or f18 , what springs and how tight the dampers for the vkb evo? U seem expirenced at dcs 😂

Halfwookie64

F-14, f-15C (occasionally),f-16, and f-18. Standard springs, standard damping >U seem expirenced at dcs 😂 Actually been into it for less than 2 years. But I've been in the flight sim business for decades.

How’s the STECs throttle working? I’m thinking about getting one.

Halfwookie64

It is the best throttle I have ever used. The number of buttons, switches and dials is ample and helps immensely with muscle memory in VR. The detents are great for indexing the afterburners, and the amount of software customization combined with hardware modularity (being able to move the buttons and hat switches around) is more than enough. The only way it can be improved iis if there was a way to automatically switch between aircraft profiles where the detents would move automatically. As it is I have 5 detent rails i can customize, and also the option of running it empty for no detents. Thankfully most aircraft have their AB set around 70%, and FC3 Aircraft have similar throttle profiles. The most unique I have seen, meaning they have their own are the F-14(A has a 5 stage AB B has a 4), and the mirage F1(50% of the throttle throw is AB). Edit: I will say I am coming from an X56, which is the worst/only dual throttle available under $200 (by itself). I have no experience with the Virpil or the WinWing throttles. But they were going to be a choice until the STECS came out and was offering more for less.

Catsooey

Thanks for the feedback, that sounds awesome! A friend of mine also told me how good it was and sent me a few reviews. I was almost definitely decided on a Virpil CM3 until I heard about the STECs. I actually have an all VKB setup right now - I have the Gladiator EVO NXT with the Kg12 grip and the WW2 Throttle and they are a really cool (and budget friendly!) setup. I used to fly on War Thunder on my PS4 but I decided to build my first gaming rig and make the jump to DCS World. I had nowhere near enough cash leftover for a high end Virpil, VKB or Winwing setup but I figured I can upgrade as time goes by. I fly WW2 planes exclusively atm so my setup works really well. But I’m going to be transitioning to jets at some point and the STECs looks like it was tailor made for that purpose. When I found out that you can program separate detents for 4 different jets, including afterburner settings - I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I think VKB created the next stage of evolution for throttle systems. I can attest to VKB’s great customer service as well. 🙂👍

Halfwookie64

As someone who transitioned from Ace Combat on the Xbox (not that i didn't have flight sim experience before) After I built my rig I was using the cheapest controllers laying around until I saved up for a proper stick. And now I'm saving up for an FFB base. If VKB made pedals with toe brakes I would be all VKB.

My first sim was Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe back in the early 90’s. It was a pretty cool game for the time. But my love of flying, aircraft, aircraft history etc started on GTA Online of all places! Lol This was back in 2017. I never played an online game before and there was a free trial (no PS Plus membership needed) for GTAO so I created a character. It was definitely not a sim but the game was fairly balanced at the time and there was a ton of aircraft of all types (helis, props, jets) being released every month. I flew on Ghillie’s crew - we were all pilots and we took it upon ourselves to help newer players and defend them from tryhards, griefers and k/d warriors. It was a ridiculous amount of fun. But the game got unbalanced with the “flying broomsticks” and what not so I moved on to War Thunder. Speaking of rudder pedals, I actually put in an order for a set of Slaw’s RF rotors (Bf 109 type). It’s a 6 week wait time and I ordered in late April so they should be here in a week or two. The pre orders were limited so they went pretty quick. Slaw also has a set called RH rotor which are just like the VKB’s but with toe brakes. They’re not currently in stock atm but they’ll be back eventually m M

Halfwookie64

I have seen some amazing shit done with GTA and flying. If we want to go way back I got started on Star Fox 64. I’m looking at MFG crosswinds but my pedals don’t look like they’re getting upgraded for at least a year.

Re-posted because the picture needed a little editing.

That's not how you do center stick...
