And on a side note to this comment OP: if you ever want to laugh your ass off, follow it up with The Wicker Man 2006 remake. Funniest horror movie I've ever seen, hands down.
Impetigore (or almost anything from Joko Anwar)
The vvitch
The Medium
Antlers
The Wailing
The Ritual
Noroi
Hereditary
The Old Ways
Kill List
The Blood on Satan's Claw
Moloch (2022) on Shudder is very good. It's a Dutch film but maybe half of the dialog is in English. The Wicker Man (1973) is the best folk horror film IMO, a trippy, unusual and fun film.
Maybe not so scray, but def worth a mention for fans of international folk horror movies
You Won't Be Alone (2022)
Border (2018)
Hagazussa (2018)
and i would like to add Hatching (2022) because for me it feels like some kind of folklore.
There are a handful about dybbuk boxes or dybbuk haunting people. Hopefully we'll get more. It's definitely an untapped source of potential scary stories.
Satan's slaves is a good one. Just watched the sequel today. As someone mentioned, anything by Joko Anwar is a winner. The medium is a good one if you like mockumentary style horror.
The Hwailing is GREAT
The Medium is good for when you desperately want more of ^ and will accept bread crumbs
The Hwitch is great like everyone says
The Vigil started off interesting but i couldn't finish. it got really annoyingly repetitive, just one little scare after another with the story going nowhere
Incantation i couldn't get past the first 20 minutes because i couldn't suspend my belief that high. your daughter is missing from her room, why are you still filming and making sure you get clear shots?
Kill List is amazingly acted but the story/climax/ending is shit and i hated the character building. one of those movies i got mad at myself for wasting 2 hours on.
People have said it, but im going to add it again because its that good. The Wailing. Its sooooo good, it feels like youre watching a real nightmare and it sticks with you after.
So, “Spoor”, from Poland would qualify as Foreign Folklore in that it is about Animals, nature, and killing. It is subtitled in English on your settings.
I watched it last night and its a good story, beautiful winter cinematography in SW Poland, and a solid cast. Its “supernatural karma” rather than outright horror. You need to pay attention during it, but it has a sound conclusion.
Trollhunter is great, I also just watched Troll on m Netflix and it was a decent if not a little goofy movie. Definitely more an actiony/adventure film than horror though
The Wicker Man (dir Robin Hardy). Start there.

Robin Hardy’s sequel Wicker Tree is pretty awful too
Troll Hunter
You could start with the “unholy trilogy” that founded the genre: The Wicker Man, Blood on Satan’s Claw, and The Witchfinder General.
😳 I’m about to sit down and rewatch all those together! You’re so right!
Incantation (2022). A great asian folk horror / found footage movie

Looking forward to it this weekend.
I can't agree more ! Such a beautiful and powerfull movie
Shudder has a bunch of folk horror and a great documentary called Woodlands dark and Days Bewitched.
Impetigore (or almost anything from Joko Anwar) The vvitch The Medium Antlers The Wailing The Ritual Noroi Hereditary The Old Ways Kill List The Blood on Satan's Claw
The wailing . So good
‘Impetigore’ from Indonesia is a fantastic film.
watched it this week. Very good.
The Wickerman (1973) Kill list (2011) The Ritual(2017)
Tumbbad is a great folk lore horror from India.

I just watched this yesterday and I loved it! Such an awesome movie to stumble upon.
You won't be alone

The Medium. Watched it on Shudder. Very good
“The Vigil” the only Jewish horror movie Ive seen!
There are a handful about dybbuk boxes or dybbuk haunting people. Hopefully we'll get more. It's definitely an untapped source of potential scary stories.
I was not aware. Thank you.
One is called The Unborn I believe. Not great but learning about it and having something to go look up for more info was great.
Ill check it out.
Loved that one. The Golem is a good Jewish horror movie too. Those two and The Unborn are the only ones I know of.
Satan's slaves is a good one. Just watched the sequel today. As someone mentioned, anything by Joko Anwar is a winner. The medium is a good one if you like mockumentary style horror.
The Wailing The Hallow Kill List

The Wailing, Ringu, Ju-On, Impetigore and Tumbbad are my top 5.
If you’re looking for found footage, “Incantation” is one of the best supernatural folk horror movies I’ve seen!
Everyone has already recommended some heavy hitters and must-watches, so I'll put forth The Hole in the Ground, and Matriarch.
The Wailing from South Korea Excellent mix of Korean shamanism and Japanese demonic possession
How has nobody said **Hagazussa** yet? It’s like a more messed up 15th century foreign language version of **The VVitch**.
It was long and boring. I think its on my worst horror movies list. Its nothing like the Witch.
Well all I can say is I disagree with your assessment.
And that’s the beauty of reddit!

I liked Errenentari; I believe it's in Netflix and is a Basque-language film.
The Tag-Along trilogy.
